    A beautiful piece of trash

I am very disappointed with the quality of a $300 device! It makes sound like a device from the 60's.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars

I would not repeat. Lack of Windows support since 2015 with last firmware.

5GHz/2.4GHz Wifi Coverage is not so good... I have the same or even better wifi coverage with some cheap branded wifi equipment (about 40€).
I would say it's the worst product I've never seen from Apple... but it's not true, because I really think MAC PRO LATE 2013 is even worse.
Apple has decided to stop supporting driver control from Windows, so if you sell your MAC (let's say, for example, this piece of metal called MAC PRO LATE 2013) then you will probably have no way to control your Airport from Windows since they stopped support with last firmware (7.7.8)

For sure... I would not repeat with Airport neither with MAC PRO LATE 2013.

WARNING Do not buy this product

It is likely that this product will only last for a year or two, then it will start overheating and die. Mine lasted about 14 months. Reading the forums and reviews, turns out this is a pretty common problem and I could have avoided the disappointment if I had just taken the warnings. Think about this for a second before buying one: This is a product for back up with a high likelihood of malfunction.

To add insult to injury Apple offers you to buy a new one for $255 instead of $299 when your first one breaks down.

    Not worth it.

This device will last 2 years TOPS. Apple does not provide a repair service. Once one of the fans goes out and it starts overheating, you either have to buy a new one (not worth it) or look into alternatives. For something so pricey, I expected it to last longer. The term 'durability' does not seem to be on Apple's agenda. What a waste.

Back up a lifetime’s worth of memories until product dies.

I have long been a supporter and purveyor of Apple products. However, The 2TB Time Machine product provides a false sense of security as Apple's marketing leads you to believe that this device "saves a lifetime's memories."

After purchasing the Time Machine in May 2014, I have used this device to store family photos, music and to backup countless work files as I am self employed. The product has seemingly worked great, until I purchased a new 17' mac desktop. I simply wanted to upload my items onto my new computer and come to find out the device reports it is overheating. This is a first for me.

Upon taking it to the Apple Store, I was told by the Genius Bar that the device simply stopped working and they could sell me the same model for a $50. While I appreciate the discount, the item offered is the exact same product with the exact same deficiencies. This is not OK. This is not what Steve Jobs would have done.

Bottom line, after less than 3 years of utilizing the product, it is dead in the water, and everything that I had stored is now gone.
Do not buy this product as backup, as there is no guarantee that it will be there from you when you need it.

Turns itself off while you're using it.

I constant walk to the router to start it up again.

Good for 20 feet of wifi, beyond that not so good.

    Storage is more than adequate.

Easy to recovery lost photos , documents. etc.

Catastrophic packaging design! Why don't they warn customers in the store?

I was standing and holding the package when opening it for the first time. I had no idea it was designed so bad, that when the top comes off the device just falls out of the bottom part. It fell to the floor into pieces. Nice job Apple

Useless almost immediately for storage; great as a (not needed) router

In support of another reviewer who wrote: "The network visibility suddenly went away, leaving both backup and now restore without function. Absolutely frustrating device, stay away." I am having the exact same issue. The Airport Time Capsule is not visible, via Utilities --> Airport. I have tried plugging it in, reconnected the cords. Futile. It does not work wirelessly to back up and it no longer works. Period. 3TB of unused storage. $$$ down the tubes. Bravo Apple. Another useless product in my living room. Exasperating!

    Bad by design

Be aware - device will last 2 years, then start overheating and you are done. I'm not a first one and you will be next. Apple do not provided any service or repair for this device. Best you can - 15% discount for new one. No another complains.

Believe earlier reviews - the hard disk can die quickly

Less than 2 years old, hard disk dead. Many others have the same problem. Bad apple this one. Router good but don't waste your money for storage/back up.

    Awful

This is the first apple product I have ever bought that doesn't cooperate with all of my other apple products. If iPhone and iPad backup can be made on iCloud, how come it is unavailable on Time Capsule?!?! Why can I not save my most important data like documents, photos, movies on time capsule HDD and share them with my other devices? Why there are so many limited options for this product?

To sum up: high price for a pretty product with poor and limited possibilities. I cannot understand why they don't implement simple software to their own products.

Apple please make apple great again and start doing software right.

    Wouldn't recommend

Love Apple, love Apple products. I've been using them professionally and personally pretty much my whole life. I believe that I haven't felt the level of frustration and disappointment with another single product, not only with Apple, but with much of the technology I use. The AirPort Time Capsule has failed on many different levels and now the hard drive has died. The throughput on it has pretty much killed my fast Internet connection. Now, I've wasted many hours troubleshooting a failed hard drive . . . hard drives fail . . . it happens. But, it seems to have happened to so many people, I have to question Apple's choice of hardware they put inside it. We pay a premium to buy Apple product, we expect more. Not only has it failed, it's virtually impossible to get to the drive to replace it. It's slowly becoming a $300 paperweight . . . steer clear of this one. Apple, shame on you!

    Terrrible

Fails to work with my existing cable modem, purchased it last year to automatically back up my iMac computer, sadly it needs to go. Total waste of money and investment. Why can't Apple make it right w these airport time capsules is beyond me but its sad to have loyal customer be constantly disastified with their products, especially rubbish like this

    Pretty terrible

If you like products that fail a lot due to development negligence, this purchase is for you. Geniuses at the Apple store are extremely far from their label. One asked why I would try to use an old Mac Mini as a Time Capsule. Geniuses these days are glorified hipsters getting through school and born again coffee connoisseurs... but all of this is besides the point. Please don't purchase this product if the majority of your intent is to store data. You will lose it. Twice I have lost it. And twice, the geniuses have had no solution and STILL try to sell me a $2000 metal computer in place of a Time Capsule. I'm moving on to Seagate. Stick to desktop computers, Apple.

Can't connect - extend existing network

Wanted this to store my music to access wirelessly, but it won't join my existing network, forces you to create a new network. I don't need a new network.

    Beware of disk failures

this is my 2nd TC device. Each has failed in the first two years. The disk died on my present device after 1 year. I have one of almost every apple product which mostly work well. But I think this device seems to be flawed. And of course working with apple stores to get it replaced is a real pain. I would recommended a NAS or OS X server solution instead.

Maybe i've expected too high for this product from Apple

I'm kind of Apple fan boy, happy with all of its products I've used so far expect this TC.
Primary reason I decided to buy TC is to back-up my data: especially photos for which I traveled and spent a lot of time as it's my hobby.

Unexpectedly, my TC worked for just over a year, then, began making a loud noise and overheat. Finally stop working expect still making the loud buzzing noise.I did not purchase Apple Care as I believed that kind of product was designed for long term usage and for sure not to be abused. it just sits on a desk and does its thing. This product should last longer than a year especially for more than 300 sgd.

However, I still don't mind, went to service center, check the status. I won't still mind giving like 50% of brand new price to get it fixed (without losing my important data). Guess what, service center just replied in polite manner that they can't do anything expect exchanging the device (1 for 1) at almost 90% of brand new price. Frankly, I'll still pay for this price if they can recover all my data and exchange new one. Suggested that I can go for 3rd party service center. Normally I choose apple, pay for higher price as I don't want to get frustrated by these 3rd parties, well...well...

Now, it seems like I don't have any option other than to showcase this TC on my desk as a decoration. Definitely, not worth the money and worst APPLE is not reliable for this product, Apple doesn't take any responsibility for this product literally. You're set on your own.

    not to recommend

After 2 years my TC 2TB stopped to boot/work. Seems that the HD got some problems so the wifi part will also stop to work. Apple takes a huge amount of money for repair and I have the feeling this product is not made for 24/7 use.
Buy a "normal" airport and use standard backup solutions. I still see a point using airport as a router especially if you want to extend your network, but the use of time capsule is just wasted money.
    // a very disappointed user

DOES NOT JOIN EXISTING NETWORKS - RUBBISH!

The new TC doesn't join existing networks. I only found this out when I opened the box and read the instructions. I already have an old 2TB version and expected this to work just the same . Rubbish concept. I am NOT going to plug this into my decent and excellent third party router and change over 3x iPhones, 3x iPads, 2x MacBook Airs, 2x ATVs, one additional speaker and an iMac because Apple decided to mess around with the specifications of originally an excellent concept.
