So far so good and reliable

I bought mine 5 months ago and so far it has been working very good even I live around 20 metres away from it. Backing up of my 2 Macs through Time Machine is much better and doesn't drop compared to the netgear and D-link.

    Very good router/backup solution

It is fast, reliable and takes up only a very small small space.

I use an app called Time Machine Backup Scheduler from the Mac App Store to schedule daily backups over WIFI. It backs up my system every single night while I and my computer sleeps without any hassle.

It is very good value and I can connect an external drive to backup the backup disk for double protection. Sweet!

I always worried that if someone breaks into my apartment and steal my laptop they would take my attached backup drive. It is very unlikely that someone would take my router.

Good product and easy to setup

The Linksys router at home died on me. It was time to get a new router. I was happy with my old Airport so I thought getting this one with reported speed and range improvement would be good features to have. Apple didn't disappoint.

With my iPad and with Aiport Utility, setup was easy and took a very short while. The purported speed and range improvement was evident. Worth the wait and the money spent.

The existing Aiport Time Capsule took a few minutes to integrate and extend the wifi coverage to the 2f of the house. I recommend this product to anyone contemplating getting a new router

    Best I've Had

Replaced an ageing modem/router with AirPort Extreme 2TB. Had to buy a new Modem for ADSL connection but so far everything is working better than before. Easy set up. Backups for two MacBook Pros are seamless. I added an additional Airport the next week and it extended my network to the back of the house giving me full signal throughout. Set up was complete in less than 10 minutes. All my IOS devises automatically switch to the strongest device under the same SSID. Achieving external download rates just under 1mb per sec. Internally I am sending files to Boxee Box at 3-4mb per sec. Brilliant, simple, No hassle.

    Very very good

Has the second generation time capsule before and upgraded to this as my network was getting weaker and weaker.
I had about 3.5 mbits speed in my office before and I have an airport express to help me with that. After this upgrade I still have to use the airport express but speed incased to 12 mbits.. An amazing improvement.
In the rest of my apartment I get speeds between 30 to 80 mbits. Great improvement.
The backups are much more stable and very much faster ( guess due to increased speed).
Can recommend anyone to upgrade or buy it for the first time.

Easy to setup, works perfectly, nice design

Great value for money, very easy setup, works well with Time Machine, wifi seems very fast despite not having any 802.11ac devices yet. Superb design, doesn't look out of place in media room compared to previous 3 antenna router. 3rd party external hard disk connected via Ethernet and visible with no other work required.
    Couldn't recommend more highly.

review on the 1st generation Time Capsule.

This review will be strongly relevant to Time Capsule in general. I will put mark on differences from latest version of Time Capsule.
+ Sturdy in terms of size and weight.
+ Sustained access ability. Long distance coverage for router function.
+ Good to use for both, internet router and data storge. At times, internet router is useless in terms of occupying space.
+ a bit of noise: If this is made with Solid State Drive (SSD), I don't see problems much. Hard Disc Drive (HDD) usually makes noise, even with very good quality and new product. That's the limitation of tht technology (spinning and reding). This can get worse when using too heavily (saving/recording data and reading data at the same time). Just doing only one job is very suitable for HDD, even for SSD.
+ Not very speedy: This is partly because of data protection (security) issue. I have no problem with low speed. Rather, at times, I am surprised when things show up too quickly on my computer. For instnce, when I am searching website and data shows up too quickly, I have to be very suspicious about the data. Certain data server is located thousands milds away from my location. In order to back-up files, simply tunning up the computer for a night is a very good way. Data storge does not need to require INSTANT ACCESS. I usually use my own laptop for instant access data. Alternative external drive can be used for instnt access. However, I do not think Time Capsule if suitable for instant access. More reading/writing on the drive, more damages to be made. Longevity will be shortened.
+ Mac OS vs. Windows OS: Personally, Windows OS provided more user capacity. Mac OS had a nice window for Time Capsule, but I think that kind of app was/is meant for people who do not know very well about networking. More professional usage? Windows OS was better than Mac OS. However, Apple might/may introduce more user focused app for Time Capsule.
+ In genral, I think this product is good to have FOR DATA BACK-UP AND INTERNET ROUTER. I just don't expect people to use this product for very quick/instant access for additional disc due to the limited space of computer. This product does not provide good enough control access app in iPad or iPhone. Literally, the data back-up function for iOS (iPad or iPhone) is almost zero so far. This limitation might/may be improved. I am just using iPad for watching movies or films, using iPhones for listening music, and using additional laptops for other more professional work, I have no problem with this limitation so far.

    New AirPort Time Capsule User

Was a bit apprehensive after reading all the negative comments. Still go ahead by faith in Apple and I was not disappointed.
Setup and wireless backup was easy. Wifi signal was good too.
Now lets hope it lasts :)

    Worthless!

Worst Apple product ever. Most expensive headache ever. There are much cheaper easier to use back ups out there. I have lost a lot of DATA and time with the piece of ----!

    HD died after 2 years

For $300 I expected it to last. My very old dome one I use as a relay is still working.

If you want a Time Machine this isn't for you

If you want a Time Machine wireless back up product this isn't for you. I bought this product for the sole purpose as a Time Machine. It doesn't do this. I already have a perfectly good internet network and therefore don't need it for this or as a booster.
I wanted to use mine to sit on a shelf for my Mac/iPhone to back up to. I wanted it out of the way and not near my router and hidden away in case I was burgled.
What I was not told when I bought it or on the hour phone call to Apple that you need an Ethernet cable for at least the setup process. This also was not made clear when purchasing the product, during the setup process or in the "you will need" setup list.
Considering the purpose for which I required it I do not feel that £249 is a bargain. It will be returned to store tomorrow.
Apple please develop a product for wireless Time Machine backup.

Catastrophic packaging design! Why don't they warn customers in the store?

I was standing and holding the package when opening it for the first time. I had no idea it was designed so bad, that when the top comes off the device just falls out of the bottom part. It fell to the floor into pieces. Nice job Apple

    Rubbish!!

Having read the reviews i was encouraged by the ease of the setup and usability. Little did I know that it would take 5 days and a long phone call with apple support to set it up! (The apple support guy was very good in the end, hence the 1 star!!). Finally it was working along side my bt router and not instead of the bt router, but i have persevered. Since then it has taken 11 hours to back up 4GB of data!! As I have 1 TB of data to back up,myself and the equipment will very old by the time it is complete. I expected much more from an Apple product and I'm very disappointed with it. Do NOT waste £249!!!!

    Do not buy it!

Time capsule is a really horrible product, this is not a bad product, but really bad product.

The drives are extremely slow, the router is also very slow and you will need to restart this device on daily bases.

I strongly recommend that you look elsewhere, and I know the good looks of this product might make you want to buy it, but please don't if you looking for something reliable.

    Works as intended/Has more potential

I just purchased this product, I've had no issues so far but I think it could be so much better as a file sharing device between all apple products that i own. I have a mac book pro an iPad and an iPhone I was thinking this was some sort of server between the devices I own. I'm not asking to share with anyone else I just want to store photos or videos here and be able to access them from anywhere I love my MacBook but it has such a small hard drive and I thought this was a solution but I may be returning it seeing as all it serves for is a backup. This is the first Apple product I'm disappointed in. So for unused potential I subtracted 4 stars.
