    Yellow flashing light

For the first 6 months my Airport Extreme worked great. Out of the blue, it started dropping the signals and the yellow light comes on. This happens about once a week and I unplug it and start over. This seems to have started after I downloaded the system update 10.11.6. I'm going to update to the new version and see if that helps. Still, I shouldn't be having this problem and my internet provider agrees. Otherwise I like the router and plan to keep it

    Limited and constrictive

Understanding the basics of how networks work, this device does not offer much stability or customization. I have tried multiple times to set up an extender that is not an Apple product and of course it was not compatible, as far as security goes it is fine. Even under the advanced settings there is not a lot to work with, I can barely view what devices are on my network. In addition to this, if I did not want someone on my network I do not have the power to kick them off even as admin, which is very disappointing.

    Samesinkinboat

Looks like I should've read the reviews first! Bought this a little while back, (I'm sure out of warranty now!), and while it worked as hoped for a year or so, I am now in the same sunken ship as the rest of you. I cannot go a day without having to re-boot the whole system, and for a while, it was several frustrating times a day. I replaced my modem thinking that was the problem, but after removing the router from the system and seeing that it worked without having to unplug and re-plug it in, I'm realizing that this is the problem. $200.00 down the drain, @#$%%$#!

I'll be going back to the drawing board and buying a new one, but of a different manufacturer of course.

    Best router ever

I have been using mine for the last two years. I have lived to two different locations, both with three floors, and I have never had an issue with the signal no matter where I am in the house. Simultaneously, we are constantly using Apple TV, Ipads, Iphones, laptops and other various wireless technologies and have never had an issue. I do not understand why Apple would want to cancel making such an awesome product.

    Lasted exactly 1 year + 1 month

This unit worked fine for the first year, but now it's one month out of warranty and it's making very loud squealing noise, overheating, and restarting. We have numerous Apple products (two iMacs, two iPads, two iPhones) and am shocked by the low quality of this product. From seeing the other reviews, it looks like this is a very common problem with this unit.

    My favorite router

Looks great, has pretty decent reception, and is a treat to manage using the iOS app. Sleek, user-friendly, and reliable.

    Overheating problems.

Worked great for one year. then conveniently started making lots of noise. I found out that the unit was or thought it was overheating. now, about 14 months after I bought it, starts 'overheating' off and on several times a day. My suggestion to you is take it in as soon as you hear it start making load noises. Or, if you are out of warranty, you can take the bottom off and blow out any dust that is in it with a high pressure air gun. It helped a little bit.

    Easy set up and fast

Recently switched my service and they gave me a new modem (TC8715D) and my old router didn't work. Since we have a 4k TV I decided to buy this as the other routers seemed to be around the same price and were not beam forming. I picked this up after a recommendation from a friend and I couldn't have been happier. We get full bars and fast across our place. TV loads faster than ever and no buffer!

    Solid Performance

Replaced a 5th Gen that still worked fine but wanted to add the additional band available with this unit. I run 4 extenders via 4 Airport Express and the transition to the new AirPort Extreme was flawless. I have used all sorts of routers in the past but once I moved to Apple AirPort Extreme life was grand!

I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants great coverage and stability. These devices are built by Broadcom to Apple specs and quality standards.

    AWESOME!!!!

This is an amazing, easy set up, stylish (no ugly antennas), most powerful router I have ever owned. Range is superb in my 2300 sq ft. Single story home!!
Wifi connection to all my devices are always at full strength. Down and uploading movies is super fast and smooth!

Bought a second Apple extreme for the garage. It's even easier set up because all you need is to plug the power and let the 2 pair up. NO 2nd Ethernet connection wire needed. It's that super easy! Not only do I have strong wifi connection in my house, I also have strong connection in my garage and back yard. Perfect for the 2 places I spend the most time in!

    Highly recommend.

Worked great until it died - second one to die around 1.5 yrs of use

I am NOT a computer expert, compared to many of the reviewers, but I found the router and time capsule to be easy to setup and was very happy with the data streaming rate. In fact, the product worked great - until it died. After about 18 months, our first Airport Extreme died, so with Apple Care, we received a new one. Unfortunately, that one died as well around 18 months.

In the first instance, we had a power outage that somewhat trashed the Airport, even though it was on a protected power strip. The second time it was simply unplugged and then never recovered. It hums, like the first, but it unable to switch on (light is dead).

I'm sure there was some method by which I was supposed to unplug it (lock the drive, etc.), but that it cannot even communicate with our Mac via ethernet nor will start back up seems pretty extreme.

We just switched to using our UVerse router with a NetGear extender, and a very affordable WD backup HDD.

    Excellent

Used to replace our Infinity Home Hub 3 so the BT modem now connects to the WAN port on this instead. Great result, no more loss of network that was dropping several times a day, and no more spending hours on the phone to BT in India trying to resolve the issue.

    Superfast!!

I purchased this to go with two new laptops we'd bought a new 13" retina and a 13" top spec Air. We have been using the BT HomeHub 3 but after having various problems with it, particularly with Airplay, I decided to swap it for an Airport extreme.

What can I say, I'm so impressed with it, so easy to set up, so easy to manage and all achievable from an iOS device or a mac. What I really wasn't expecting was such a bump in my broadband speed, on the BT HH3 I was averaging about 20-30mbps on BT's infinity service, using the Airport it shot straight up to over 70mbps. I had read this had happened with other users of the AIrport extreme on BT but didn't know how much of an issue my HH3 router was until I replaced it.

One small issue I did have was with my Xbox Live. It seems to default to Moderate NAT settings but a few Youtube videos soon showed me how to switch it to stay open.

    The Extreme works for me!

I have three (3) floors, with the Airport Extreme in my basement and we have 3 Apple TVs, an older Airport Extreme, a few Airports and an array of wireless devices (including a couple of SmartTVs). We have a wired and wireless and the Airport works great. This is after a 1 year and no significant issues. I would highly recommend the Airport Extreme.

    Very user friendly and reliable

I've had my unit for well over 2 years now, and it's worked very good. The signal is strong, we have our 2 DVR's, desktops, security camera, thermostat and so on connected, in other words, the unit is under constant 'strain' and the performance has held up well. We had one minor issue where our devices couldn't connect to it, so we took it the apple store and they performed a master reset, and the problem went away!

    works fine

i have a BT hub/router. Problem was signal kept dropping out and coverage poor.
So, as a mac household, it seemed sensible to disable the wireless function on the bt router and connect an APE to disseminate the wifi signal. I have 3 kids & a spouse constantly on the home network. Dead easy to set up (including parental controls). The system works great, looks great (i hate those tacky looking things with antennae sticking up) & we've not looked back. thank you apple.

    Very DISAPPOINTING!

I've had the AirPort Extreme for only 3 days and the so-called increased download speed improvement is just not was it is advertised as. I am very disappointed to pay so much (I have the iPad retina display, iPhone6, and an iMac that's only 1 year old) and not get what was advertised. Unlike some of the other folks who have commented, I have no intention of buying a 2nd one...in fact I want a refund! The download speed is the same and I have experienced nothing different except in my bank account. This puts a new light on Apple products for me. Don't waste your money for this product.

At least 2x better than new D-Link 865L

Based on internet reviews i got a D-Link DIR 865L due to its top review here www.altomdata.dk/d-link-dir-865l
The D-Link didn't cover my house good enough so I bought the new AirPort Extreme.
The AirPort feels like running double speed and the coverage is full all over the house.
Further benefits in the AirPort is that the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands are joined into one SSID making network sharing a lot easier than the D-Link as it runs two SSIDs one for each band.
Also the AirPort allows my VPN tunnel I couldn't get to work via D-Link.
The AirPort is allowed in the living room due to nice design and not stored away like the D-Link so that a simple way to improve network quality

3x faster download speeds compared to Airport Express....

I had an an old Airport Express that I purchased about 6 years ago. It was working normally, however, I noticed that my webpages were taking longer to load and the streaming video from my Apple TV were sputtering and buffering. I wasn't sure what kind of improvement I could expect by upgrading to an Airport Extreme, but in one word: BLAZING FAST! My download speeds are now almost tripled. Shortly after setting up the system, I had to run the speed test several times just to make sure it was really true. My webpages on my Macbook Pro and iPhone load almost instantaneously. Streaming video from my Apple TV is now sputter free....

Setup was ridiculously easy using the Airport setup utility. I timed it: I plugged it in at 5.46pm and by 5.57pm I was enjoying super fast speeds. Highly recommended. All my settings from my old Airport Express were seamlessly transferred to my new Airport Extreme.

It would be a shame if Apple discontinued manufacturing these routers because there is no comparable product that offers such a painless and pleasurable user experience.

This router was super easy to set up. Just watched one youtube video and I was able to set it up in less then 10 minutes. I know nothing about networking and things like that.
