    Fantastic Airport Extreme.

Over the past 6 months I have had continual issues with our BT HH5, especially with Apple products, BT replaced our router 3 times with the same issues, i have spent hours adjusting settings on the HH5 but the same issues came back, dropping out 6-8 times a day. BT's technical department are useless, never returning calls or actually sorting the issue.

However i decided to purchase the Airport Extreme over other routers that are available with similar specs.

If you are an Apple household, Macbook pro's, iPhones iPads etc and are having issues with your ISP's standard router, don't waste anytime and just get the Airport Extreme!! It is expensive however i believe you get what you pay for. Set up is so simple, had everything up and running in 10 mins, It just works.... After setup i did a speed check and it has doubled our speed to 68mbps download and 22mbps upload, we have a lot of items online at the same time and it doesn't slow down at all. It also looks fantastic! Thank you Apple I'm completely satisfied and relieved that the children are not continually complaining!!

    AMAZING

The airport extreme is amazing as when I got fiber optic broadband, the router that sky provide was slow. Since getting the apple airport extreme I am not getting the full speed I was promised.

    AirPort Extreme

Having coped with numerous and frustrating problems with BT Home Hub 3 for years I decided to give Airport a try; initially AirPort Express which worked well, but lacked the coverage I was hoping for in a compact, 3 bedroom house. Both Apple Store Covent Garden and Regent Street assured me that I could exchange the router if performance was inadequate in any way, so I exchanged Express for Extreme. Simplicity itself to setup with AirPort Utility App on iPad - ten minutes at most - and so far performance is excellent. After a few non-Apple glitches to add a Range Extender (TP-LINK WA901ND wireless access point) required to get a good signal in my garden study - 25 meters remote from the AirPort - I now have a fast network that seems trouble free across the whole property. A single iMac on Yosemite, oldish laptop on Snow Leopard plus two iPads, iPhone 6 & 4S and occasional HP laptop on Windows 7 all perform perfectly. Wonderful. I only wish I had done it before and saved myself many hours of trouble shooting and frustrating calls with BT!

A whole new level of WiFi range, speed and reliability. Mind blown.

Forget everything you think you know about home wifi. Airport extreme well exceeded my expectations, I never dreamed that a home wifi network could be this wide and fast with a single access point. I have full wifi reception throughout my house and can stream 1080p to 3 apple tv's simultaneously without buffering. It doesn't even make sense how much of an improvement I have experienced upgrading from a high end netgear dual band n series router. Can not recommend this product enough. Life changing.

    Brilliant

I replaced my BT Homehub 4 with the AirPort Extreme and could not be happier. I wanted to improve the range in my home as there was a bit of a black spot and dropout point in my study for my iPhone. I now have good coverage all over the house (minimum 2bars) and the speed has also improved on early evidence. Setup ridiculously easy. Turned everything off, unplugged homehub, plugged cable from Openreach modem into Airport, turned everything on and followed procedure on Mac. Less than 5 minutes. Note, you will need a seperate modem with this product.

Great Upgrade over previous extreme, which was good!

Purchased to prepare for when i get new Mac and as I needed better coverage in very large house.

Worked straight from the box and gave immediate improved speed and coverage even on existing 802.11n which is all my old MacBook has. Streams HD from BBC iPlayer where before often struggled to get standard def.

But!!!! Be careful opening the box! I thought the reviews mentioning this must be being picky but I did take note - please do open it over a table or something soft. It does not come out of the box how you expect, or how Apple hoped it would either! If you are standing up and holding each part of the box in each hand as you open it YOU WILL DROP IT! - unless you have three hands and so can catch it as it falls!

    PPOE works great

I decided to connect the Extreme to our Netgear ADSL Modem/Router. We had been troubled by IP address conflicts with the Netgear unit, and we also wanted to improve wifi reception.

Using the standard set up recommended in the Extreme manual still allowed the Netgear modem to assign IP addresses. This was not what I wanted to happen, as I wanted the new Apple product to do as much of the work as possible in managing the wifi network.

It took some reading on web, both to turn off the router function on the Netgear unit ( not just turn off the wifi) and set up the PPOE function on the Apple.

Having done this the result is excellent. The Apple logs into the ADSL through the modem, and assigns IP addresses on our network. There are no more IP conflicts and better reception.

Great bit of kit for any home.

After many issues with my Virgin (not so) Superhub and getting to the stage where I needed to reset it every day to get a decent connection I decided to upgrade to an Airport Extreme as almost everything I own is from Apple. Out of the box its a smart looking item and after setting my Virgin Superhub to modem mode and following the simple instructions during the Airport Extreme set up process I was connected within a few minutes. Once I had worked my way round the house (3 storey solid brick construction) updating the connection on all my devices (2 imacs, macbook pro, 2 Apple TVs, 1 work laptop, ipad, iphone, B&W A7 airplay speaker, epson wireless printer etc) everything worked perfectly and download speeds increased by around 30%. I was well please with my purchase. The only issue I had was the Bowers and Wilkins A7 airplay system constantly cut out and disconnected from the network meaning I had to go through the A7 set up process many times over the first few days. Very frustrating! However this was resolved by just turning the Airport Extreme off and on. Problem solved and since then I haven't had a single drop out.
I have now had the Airport Extreme for a week and I have had no other issues. Very please so thought I would post an honest review and highlight all the kit it works perfectly with and the kind of home the Airport works well in as many reviews don't mention this information and this info really helps when researching something like a router. It's no more expensive then a good none Apple router so for me it was money well spent. Finally the signal in the garden has always been almost no existent but now I have a decent connection there to, maybe I will add an airpot express to the set up just to beef this up a little to.

    Great Router!!

Upgraded my old router to this Airport Extreme and been using it for about a year. I have to say it's been the easiest router I have every set up. Great coverage and range with multiple products both Apple and other brands connected to it. Currently on a fibre Internet connection at 100/40 Mbps, so far so good keeps up the speeds that my ISP offers. The LED indication light is great as I can tell if my Internet has dropped out and if it does it automatically reconnects. Also provides good speeds and reliability for online multiplayer gaming.
Very happy and would high recommend.

    BEWARE OF PACKAGING

There is a serious issue with the packaging the Aairport Extreme come in- pls consider if you buy! Here is my case (which will also be going on YouTube). I just purchased a new Airport Extreme. Got home, and unboxed while standing in my kitchen. There is only one logical way to open the box, which is to hold top and bottom and pull apart. When I did this, the Airport Extreme flew out the box and dropped 4 feet onto tile floor, with a huge thud and its bottom cover broken off. Just astonishing to say the least, and not what you want to see with your new $200+ purchase.

In the box, the unit sits on the bottom segment of the packaging, with about a 1 cm of elevated packaging surrounding it. Also, pulling the top section of the packaging while holding the bottom section created a vacuum, which seemed to help launch into mid air (no pun intended)

So I now need to consider returning it before using it, as it may or not work or have the lifecylce it should. I read up on this and noticed many people had the same issue. A huge hassle and incredibly stressful for me.

Why has Apple developed such incredibly bad packaging? I am a dedicated Apple user, I bought this to replace an old Airport Extreme. But this experience is just mind-numbing. This packaging is so badly thought-out and can create a horrible user experience - it is astonishing Apple let this out the door. I havent even used it, but have no choice but to give it one star at this point. Complete waste of time dealing with this product thus far. (on a Sunday to boot)

    Mac only no windows support

It does its job as a router. In our household we have Macs as well as Windows machines. Apple customer care does not support the product for windows and sent me a link to an article which did not rectify the isse. Apple get with the real world and offer support for both formats. Cannot access the 2TB drive or attached external HD to it After hours of frustration the Airport Extreme will be relagated to a wi fi repeater...an expensive excercise.

As a router its style over substance, love the look but performance is nothing startling.

    Fabulous

    Fabulous piece of kit.
Replace my BT Hub 3 with this. The set up was a doddle. Two pieces of information Network name, password and the job was done.

Couldn't believe it, had to check to see if security was set up and it was.

I run a iMac and three iPads and a HP printer all wireless on BT infinity 1 and my speed is 30 down and 6 up and solid.

    Couldn't be more happier.

    Seriously amazing!

I've been messing about with various routers over the years, I've always had problems with one thing and another so I decided to take the plunge and treat myself to an Airport Extreme, OMG after 10 seconds setup it works like a dream, blisteringly fast, I should of moved over to apple routers years ago. Yes they are a little expensive, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for! I would highly recommend anyone to purchase this, even the complete novice would have this up and running in seconds! As always with Apple products, it simply works!

At least 2x better than new D-Link 865L

Based on internet reviews i got a D-Link DIR 865L due to its top review here www.altomdata.dk/d-link-dir-865l
The D-Link didn't cover my house good enough so I bought the new AirPort Extreme.
The AirPort feels like running double speed and the coverage is full all over the house.
Further benefits in the AirPort is that the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands are joined into one SSID making network sharing a lot easier than the D-Link as it runs two SSIDs one for each band.
Also the AirPort allows my VPN tunnel I couldn't get to work via D-Link.
The AirPort is allowed in the living room due to nice design and not stored away like the D-Link so that a simple way to improve network quality

Quick and Easy Setup - Piece O'Cake

I did a fair amount of research before taking the plunge and purchasing this great piece of kit. I've been suffering for sometime with my iMac dropping of my wireless network, we are a house of iPhones, iPads, windows laptops and gaming platforms. I was getting fed up of playing second fiddle to my sons Xbox!!!

Simply unboxed the AirPort Extreme, plugged it into the existing super fast fibre optic broadband router, and literally 3 minutes later I was up and running with superb speed and connectivity......HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

    AirPort Extreme? Disappointed...

Bought the new Apple AirPort Extreme yesterday. I bought this device because the reviews were excellent, thought that the majority of people liked the new router. The previous router installed was Linksys EA 4500 which to this point has worked great. Reason to change was to experience the "ac" and really enjoy the longer coverage and faster speed. I installed the new router but was only able to connect 2 devices (iPad 2 and iPhone 5S), the remaining devices (iPhone, Mac mini etc...) never connected to the router.
