    Truly Awful

    • Written by Matthew H from London

I don't normally write product reviews, but I had to for this. This product is so badly designed it beggars belief.

The idea of a universal dock for all models of iphone is a good one – if you change your phone you don't have to buy a new dock. Also makes sense from Apple's point of view, so they don't have to have a different product for each model of phone. Their solution however, is crazy – a dock where there is no physical support for your iphone except for the lightening pin itself. So not only does your phone wobble from side to side (which is annoying, and doesn't exactly fulfil the brief of a 'dock'), but it's literally just a matter of time before it breaks – because really, how could it not? In my case, it lasted two months.

Partly I blame myself, as I suspected this was not a good product and had in fact heard others criticise it for exactly these reasons. But I chose to believe that it couldn't be that bad, and thought that if you used it properly and carefully it would surely be fine. How wrong I was – a complete waste of £40.

    Failed after a few months

    • Written by John M from Angier

My wife bought two of these chargers with our new phones. At first I was delighted at the relative convenience. After just a few months (4-5) however, mine stopped charging. I tried checking the connections--nope. It just wouldn't charge the phone any more. Going to try to see if they will take it back. I'd say stick with the plug in--basic, much cheaper, and more dependable.

    Not Worth The Money

    • Written by Steven H from Bella Vista

It worked for awhile but now my phone says it is no longer a supported accessory when I plug it in so it's totally worthless. Also the connector is really short and if you have a case on your phone it won't reach so you're either left with taking your phone in and out of the case or buying a flimsy extension that doesn't hold up. I feel like I totally wasted my money.

    Damages iPhone charging connector

    • Written by Stephen S from Burbank

Have had an iPhone Lightning Dock for a couple of years. Used with two brand new iPhones - first iPhone 6 Plus then an iPhone 7 Plus. After a year of using the Dock with these phones they started to have problems charging with the standard lighting charger cables. The cables need to be wiggled to start charging. Don't waste your $$&.

    Great Idea, Horrible Design

Don't expect this to just work... After a while, you will encounter charging issues or like mine, you will lose the connection to external speakers.

    poor functionality

    • Written by John L from Jonestown

If you still have wired earphones and need a way to charge and listen to you iphone, then it's OK, but otherwise, this dock is awful. I have an iPhone 7 plus and it is so hard to dock the phone. It is hard to get it on and it is so easy to tip over the phone. Apple has lost it's way on design with its accessories. Have you seen how the pencil and mouse get's its charge?

    So far, so bad

    • Written by John K from Grand Prairie

The dock required my iPhone 6 to undergo a hard reset before it would charge. For my wife and daughter’s iPhone SE’s, no amount of troubleshooting or fiddling seems to work — the docks will not charge the phones — though unplugging the docks and running the cords directly into the phones charges them normally. This appears to be a half-baked product.

    Garbage

    • Written by Levente O from New Westminster

This is an excessively priced piece of plastic. In addition to the good comments before, I can confirm that this stand will not work even with relatively thin iphone cases.

    Lasted a year

    • Written by Ron H from Holualoa

I was reasonably pleased with the unit until it stopped charging for one phone, and then all phones after just over a year's time. It is a poor design, and I suggest looking elsewhere for a phone dock.

Device damages iPhone Lightning charging plug

    • Written by Jeff J from Lexington

When I purchased my Lightning Dock in Dec 2015 from an Apple Store I asked the sales person if this will damage the phone? I asked because it is at a backwards angle and it is only using the structure of the iPhone's Lightning plug to support itself. The sales representative assured me that Apple has tested this and it will not damage the phone.
Well guess what? He was wrong. After about a year I could charge my phone on the Dock but I could not charge it with my cord anymore. The reason is that the plug inside is bent (I think). I have not yet been able to get Apple to even respond to me, let alone help me get it repaired. My guess is that it is because I don't have iCare on this phone.
Don't buy this. It is a cool gadget but it did not have sufficient testing. I am very careful with my phone. I also always removed it at the same angle it plugged in and it still damaged the phone. It just took over a year to do it.
It is possible that if I had an Apple Store near me I could take the phone in and they might do something. I just have no way to find out and I have yet been unable to get any communication channel open online. I am over 100 miles from the nearest Apple Store.

It's harder to connect than the cord. The cord is more likely to be inserted properly. Waste of money. After two days it did not charge but the phone did directly from the cord.

Do Not Use This Product - Ruins Your iPhone's USB Jack

    • Written by Tyler P from Stittsville

Like a dummy, I thought to myself: "Hmmm I wonder if the little USB connector can support the phone like that with no issues?? Well, hey, I'm sure the genius engineers at Apple did thorough testing on it so it should be fine." Wrong-o. After a few months, the only way I can now charge my phone is by forcibly putting pressure on the charge cable in the opposite direction that the phone leaned while on this poorly thought out dock. I intend on visiting the Apple store in the next couple of days and demanding a new phone, even though I don't have Apple Care. Apple's own product ruined my phone. Ridiculous.

worked perfectly for 2 months and now will not charge iPhone unless I spend 5 minutes jiggling the port and dock connector. Product is not reliable which is unusual for Apple.

    Stopped working after a year

    • Written by Minglun G from ST. JOHNS

Only use it lightly (3-4 times a week) to charge my phone in office. Liked how it keeps the phone standing. However, the connection got loose and it started buzzing about 2 weeks ago due to switching between charging and not charging on its own. Now it does not charge my phone at all and becomes a paperweight.

    Don't buy this garbage.

    • Written by Robert G from Olathe

I bought this so that I could use headphones and charge at the same time. I worked for a few months but apparently the connector is now worn out and you get "This accessory not supported", at which point it stops charging. This is a huge disappointment after paying the premium price for an official Apple product.

It is a waste of money to buy something that is an original product and after few months of using it tells you that 'not supported' and doesn't work anymore. I had it on my iPhone 7 plus and feel really irritated about this issue.

    Warning!

    • Written by Randall K P from Lewisville

I wish I had listened to the other reviewers who said using this iPhone dock ruined their iPhone. I assumed those reviewers where simply rough on their phones and that it wouldn't happen to me. I used this dock happily for about three months. Then I noticed the same thing happened to my iPhone. The connector at the bottom of my iPhone has become too loose to get a good connection when trying to charge the phone, even when I stopped using the dock. I'm a huge Apple fan, so I can't understand why Apple is still selling these docks that render your iPhone useless in such a short time? Please don't let this happen to you.

    Damages iPhone Lightning Connector

    • Written by Matthew S from Rochester

After 1 year of using this dock with my iPhone 6S on a nightstand, the connector on the phone is shot. The dock lacks any type of physical support, so the full weight of the phone rests on the Lightning port, weakening it. Simply touching the screen to dismiss the alarm every morning flexes the connector further than it should be able to.

At first, it required wiggling the phone on the dock to connect, but over time it required more fidgeting to get the phone to keep charging and not hear the "buzz buzz connected to charger" sound over and over again.

A year on, and I'm having trouble using any Lightning cables to charge the phone. The connector has become loose and known-good cables will stop charging randomly.

Only buy this dock if you don't mind replacing your expensive iPhone in less than a year.
