    Works just as expected

In order to get this adapter to work you must upgrade it's software (when you plug in your mac it will ask to update the software, so just press "ok"). The only other trick is that the adapter is only compatible with devices supporting HDMI 2.0 (notice that you must also use a HDMI 2.0 cable). When all the details are set it works as expected.

Buyers beware, if you plan to use a monitor, DO NOT BUY the new MacBook and certainly, DO NOT BUY THIS adaptor

As a loyal customer of all apple products for so many years I am really DISAPPOINTED... why Apple makes products and sell them while so many people complain that it doesn't work!??!!?

I bought a new MacBook pro for my work which I need it to connect it to a monitor - despite seeing so many bad reviews, I had to buy the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and just like so many other customers, I realized that this DOESN'T work ....
Even USB-C adapters made by other companies don't work ... so to me this is a MacBook software issue ... literally, after spending so much for a new laptop, I even can not connect my laptop to a monitor so I can not even use it .... I am not even sure if I can return the laptop ...
this is a huge fault and Apple should be ashamed for making a product that doesn't work ... if Apple can not make good and innovative product anymore, why even bothering to make products with new and incompatible features like this stupid USB-C?!?!?!!?!

Seriously, customers should consider buying products from other brands

poor customer service! I am sorry but this is a total let down .....

Insane price, doesn't do what it says...

Claims it'll support 60hz on a 4k monitor, but it doesn't.. I don't get any screen flickers, but for $90 CAD, I expected a lot more..

I guess this is the future of Apple Innovation.. Create products that require 40 overpriced dongles.

Drops connection and periodically blanks the monitor

This cable doesn't seem to provide a reliable connection. The external monitor will go blank at random intervals.

    Poor durability!

I bought this adapter alongside my 12-inch mac in July 2015. Within one year, the white rubber around the wire turned brown due to excessive heat generated by the wire. Shortly after, the wire split open. Just after using the adapter for 1 year, the USB port stopped working for my iPhone. For the cost of this adapter, it is poorly built. However, in typical mac fashion, you have to buy this adapter to be able to use a USB device or sync your iPhone while connecting your mac to a power source as it is the ONLY one on the market. I am very disappointed.

    What a lemon

I am having the same problem as everyone else. Updated the adapter and still does not work with my samsung monitor. Why has apply changed the ports to my macbook pro without being 100% certain that their adapter can handle the periphials in the market.

    Dont buy.

    Don't buy this adaptor...

... if you're planning to present work from your macbook in a professional environment. It simply won't work when being plugged into an audio/visual hub, which is common in meeting rooms, lecture halls etc.

It will work when connected directly to an external monitor with an HDMI cable, which is great for everyday use at your desk or at home.

USB-C to HDMI make my MacBook Pro very hot

I tried to use the adapter with my ACER, LG and other HDMI 23, 24 monitors. After I plug in for 15 to 30 mins, the upper part of the touch bar of my 15" MacBook Pro will become very hot. I tried in Apple Store and cannot reproduce the problem with their monitor. I think compatibility has problem or the heat is randomly generated. Anyway, I hope Apple knew the case and they will fix it.

So terrible it makes me want to bin my MacBook Pro.

Buy this if you think you'd enjoy paying top dollar for a bulky, unreliable adapter that makes your monitor blink off and on constantly.

Seriously, that this is such a common complaint suggests that absolutely zero QA was done on this thing. Terrible.

    Works better than anything

I have tried other brands but this one works the best. Ridiculous that this has a low review. It will send signals via HDMI regardless of version (surprise there are different versions of HDMI) and even handles USB multiports well.

    Same problem as everyone else

After reading Best Buy reviews I decided to purchase this. Should've read the Apple reviews also, which I usually do. Flickering screen both on my brand new MacBook Pro, as well as the external display I was connecting to via HDMI. Fortunately the local Apple Store was incredibly helpful as they always are, and not only tried to solution seek with me but also offered a refund immediately. I have the latest software, I have a 5 day old MacBook Pro, so neither of those were the issue. With so many reviews about flickering screens you would hope Apple would correct the issue. Maybe next time. Good thing I love all Apple products now otherwise I'd be even more disappointed.

Doesn't work with external new Dell monitor

Like all the other reviews of this... Something is VERY wrong. The screen turns on/off and flickers sometimes once every 30 seconds, sometimes I get 10 full minutes without flicker.

The same HDMI cables works without issues on the exact same monitor with 3 other computers, one of which is my previous Macbook Pro that had its own HDMI port. Its not the monitor, its not the cable, its not the computer. That is verified 100% for certain. It IS the adapter, and it IS rubbish.

    Crashes MacBook

Sometimes the MacBook crashes when this adapter is plugged in. The system just freezes and needs a hard-reset to get working again. When on battery, connecting an external display drains the battery. Charging through this adapter is very slow.

    Works perfectly well

I was skeptical to buy this product after reading the reviews. Have been using this for the past 3 months with the 2016 macbook pro 13" - works perfectly well. I use it every day with a Dell Monitor!

    This accessory clearly doesn't work

HDMI port causes flickering on external monitor every 10-30 seconds. The USB port does't work with jump drives... Useless part which clearly needs to be recalled, just look at the number of non-functioning parts in the reviews.

    Not a Apple quality product.

    it gets the job done!

I have had issues with it at first on the office monitor when I tried to use my VGA cable that has a VGA to HDMI adapter. After changing my cable for a DVI to HDMI, it worked like a charm. For my 1080p monitor back home, it works perfectly.

Also something that surprised me, I got a firmware update the day I got the dongle. Surprised because it is the first time I see a dongle being updated!

Doesn't work with half of the monitors

I've contacted Apple support multiple times, still have not been able to solve the issue. Whenever I connect my MacBook Pro 2016 15'' to a monitor it will randomly flicker. Totally unusable.

    Unbelievably overpriced

It's absurd that I have to pay $70 to plug my $3000 laptop into my $1000 display. Seriously, Apple -- this is not okay.

Laptop Discharges While Plugged In To Power With This Adapter

When using my computer with this adapter and the apple power adapter charging through this adapter the computer battery drains even though it is plugged in. After a few hours of work in Xcode the computer will shut off due to insufficient power. But it should be fully charged since it's been plugged in the whole time. It seems that the power consumption of the machine exceeds the charging capacity of the power supply when used in passthrough configuration with this adapter. If I charge directly to one of the USB-C ports on my mac then it charges normally and doesn't suffer this issue. However, the stupid machine has only 4 usb-c ports and 0 usb-a ports but I have 3 usb-c devices and a usb-a hub that must be connected so unless I use this adapter I'm one port short. Apple please release an update that can actually provide full 85w of charging power through the adapter.
