First Device I plugged in didn't work & almost broke the usb's connector

Something was off right away.. it was difficult plugging my Apricon Aegis ecrypted external drive's usb connector in.
The female USB side of this adapter is too tight a spacing.

Then after plugging in, the drive took an inordinate amount of time to be recognized and when I tried doing something with it, then the drive ejected itself. Tried reseating, starting over and half the time the drive isn't recognized and half the time the same ejecting thing happens. After a hour wasted messing around .. i gave up. I have used this same external drive on numerous other MacBook Pro's without issue.

Even worse, when I tried separating the external drive from the dongle, i almost broke the drive's usb connector pulling it out of the way too snug fit.

I'll keep trying to make it work but I'm not looking forward trying the 10s of other usb devices I own and feeling like it will be hit or miss.

Bought this cord not even two months ago and its already is broken? Won't detect anything that gets plugged into it... iPhone, printer, USB. Complete garbage. Would expect something straight from Apple to last longer then 2 months!!!

    Works well for my needs

Works well for my needs. So far, I've used it for charging my iPhone and iPad and transferring videos from my GoPro.

    Unsatisfactory Adapter

My purpose in purchasing a MacBook Pro was to use Logic ProX with my Yeti USB mic and my Axiom midi keyboard, both are USB connected. When plugged in through the port via the USB-c to USB adapter, those devices fail to connect to the computer. Both devices show that they are receiving power from the computer (they light up), but neither show up as available devices on my MacBook. It seems like the adapter is unsuitable for connecting external devices.

Purchased this for my flash drives, and other equip, it doesn't even recognize the flash drive! I can't do what I need with the MacBook Pro - makes me sick to pay that much money and not have it do what I need. I should have kept my old computer!

    VERY TIGHT connection!!!!!

Updated to a new MacBook Pro with touch bar. So had to purchase this adaptor for all my cables and flash drives.
When I tried using it I though they sold me the wrong item. Could not connect anything to it.
After reading the other reviews here, I realized it is so tight that you have to force cables/flash drives to make a connection.
Yes it does work, but be prepared to force the male and female connectors. Also is very tight to pull apart.
Maybe Apple needs to modify this product?
Also I preferred all of the available ports on my 2011 MacBook.

    Works fine

This works fine for me. Data transfer is fast and reliable. I haven't had any issues with it. I do with that Apple would come out with their own hub that can connect to the side. I don't want to spend the money on third party ones.

After spending nearly $5000 on a Macbook Pro and an iPhone 7 Plus, having to spend extra money on connecting wires is just ridiculous. Connectivity should come as standard. Not only that, but when purchasing my devices in the apple store, the staff did not tell me that my two devices would not connect which meant an extra trip back into the city. Poor customer service.

    Apple rip off

This adapter should have been included in the box with my new MacBook Pro. As a loyal apple user I feel very short changed. I'm sorry I bought the new MacBook Pro now ☹️☹️☹️

    Just Terrible!

It works for 2 things so far, a piece of music hardware and a zoom recorder. It won't connect to a canon camera and it also won't work for a drawing tablet which I need for my business.

I Don't Know If This Works

Just got a brand new MacBook Pro and I love it. I purchased this adapter for $9 since I knew I'd need it. But it's failed it's first test. I took the USB adapter and plugged it in and then plugged in my Canon Rebel camera to transfer some pictures. Nothing. I've turned things on and off. I've searched in every possible folder. My laptop isn't recognizing the camera at all and I'm not sure if it's the adapter or the camera. But all three pieces of equipment are brand new! If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it!

Adapter works some of the time, sometimes

The Thunderbolt 3/USB-C to USB adapter works OK--depending on how complicated the connection is. On my old MBP, with real USB 3.0 ports, my USB peripherals worked without issue. Using the new 2017 MBP, with the USB-C ports requires this or similar adapters, and nothing is reliable.

This thing works, but not universally. Most thumb drives work. Connecting to a USB 3.0 hub has less success. It works OK for getting power out to charge something, but not always so reliable for something that requires data; especially prolonged data connections. So far, very disappointed with the new MBP. It has some nice new features, but the fact that we have to use things like this USB-C to USB Adapter for everything is a hassle.

Works great with Macbook pro 2016 with touch bar

I have been mislead by these reviews and thought that it would be an awful product, but still decided to give it a try since it worth only $9. In fact, I have been using this adapter for a month now and it is working great! I didn't notice any problems at all. I would totally recommend it to my friend!!!

So Much Extra Stuff to keep track of

Unlike the older versions of MacBook Pro, the late 2016 version, sleek, and lightweight, and neat looking, has sacrificed practicality for superficial appearance. Instead of having the multiple ports that made the older versions of MBP so useful, you now have to carry around extra paraphernalia like this to be able to interface with all the other stuff that most people use - flash drives, and phones in need of charging and a super drive to back up your files. You need that more often now, because the higher price tag on the MBP means less storage space. So in order to have even half the practicality of previous MBP's, you have to keep track of this adapter, and the lightning cords, and the non-mag-safe power adapter, and now I have to find the means of uploading photos from memory cards, because there isn't any kind of adapter for that, yet.

So buy this piece of junk, and make sure you don't lose track of it and the dozen other pieces you need in the name of sleekness of design, and maximizing profits.

USB port is too tight. Just be very careful!!!

The USB port is too tight so whatever I plug in to the adapter, I spend the next 1 minute forcing the usb device in and out of the port. I almost pulled my Mac on to the floor when I tried to remove the apple supplied lightning cable from the adapter. As both the cable and the adapter are made by apple they should get the fit right this is on two separate adapters, I both from my new MacBook Pro.

    Just be very careful

    NOT great Apple!!

    VERY slow and tight

The jack is so tight you'll have a hard time fitting in your USB device. But the real bad part is the snail-like transfer speed. I read here that people say it's USB 2.0 and not 3, are you guys sure? My call is that it's USB 1.1. I thought I'd transfer some files from my old MacBook pro to my new one. It took 7 hours to transfer 1.7GB! Useless for anything more than a mouse.

    Why no USB 3.0

I can't understand why this is limited to USB 2.0. One would assume it would be USB 3.0 but it's not

    Apple going downhill ... FAST

I purchased the dongle at an Apple store, so I'm assuming it's not a fake. The dongle fits the USB too tightly and now I cannot disconnect them at all. Broke the wireless mouse receiver trying to pull it out!
