    Never Buy One of These

Broke a week before the guarantee expired. I went to the store afterwards, (my bad) and the recommendation was for me to buy a new one. Let's see, a device that never fell on the floor or something like ir, breais in less than a year and the suggestion is to buy a new one? Never again. This is disposable gadget!!

    A FAST keyboard! "Like butta!"

Given the right equipment, I type fast enough to make the keyboard smoke, and this keyboard is definitely smoking. You will find that the keys are perfectly placed for fast typing and minimal errors. The "touch" is subtle enough to seemingly read your mind. There appears to be plenty of room for large fingers.

Now some advice. I got the iPad Pro 12.9" to be used primarily for art and photography projects. However, it has served temporarily as a stand-in while my Macbook Pro is being repaired. I didn't expect it to match the functionality of the MacBook Pro, which would be considered a real workhorse by comparison.

But then, necessity is the mother of invention. After tweeking the setup, my iPad Pro is as functional as any laptop.

First, I got a strong, thin board with a footprint slightly larger than my iPad and keyboard together. Then, I duct taped my iPad and keyboard all around, to secure everything into position and to eliminate shifting. This includes taping the keyboard into the correct triangular shape that props the iPad up.

Now I can work on my iPad keyboard without limitations, even if I'm hanging upside down, no problem.

For those who want to fold their iPads up frequently for travel, the next design steps will be theirs to develop. I've got what I need, so I'm done.

One troubleshooting pointer: if your keyboard connection becomes intermittent, this is because the three-point connection requires the iPad and keyboard to be resting on a flat surface. If your iPad and keyboard are on your lap or are being jostled around, you'll have problems. The solution is to keep something firm and flat, right under these connections. Do this, and all should be well.

    Works perfectly

I also agree to the guy before, don't listen to the negative reviews. I'm working with external keyboards since day 1, different manufacturers. This is by far the best one!

    Doesn't work

Just stopped working. Keeping this review short because I hate typing on the iPad screen. "This accessory not supported by this device". Out of nowhere.

I really like this keboard, it's portable for using it wherever I want. I recommend this product specially for students, as it is fast and light for all the schools task.

I haven't experienced any trouble with this keyboard, but thats normal for nowadays technology. You may not have the same keyboard and Ipad more than a year, thats why Apple launches every year a new Ipad and keyboard.

I am actually writing this review with the keyboard.

Great keyboard but now having issues

I bought this item just over a year ago. It has a great feel to the keyboard, although it did take a bit of time getting used to the flatter keys. I use it all the time for uni work and it has been great. No need to worry about the battery going dead as it runs off the iPad and the connectivity has been great.
However since I have done the last update on my iPad I seem to be having issues every time I come to use it. It constantly gives me the message that the 'accessory is not supported'. The only way to get it to work again is by restarting the iPad with it disconnected. I really hope that this can be sorted in the next software upgrade as at this price and an apple product I would expect more

    Smart keyboard SYOPS working!

I LOVE all things Apple, but when this keyboard just stops working for NO REASON at all and you try to have it repaired and the Apple Care just expired and well, that is TOO BAD for you! Just stops working and get an error message "device not supported" and apparently this is a problem many people have seen. Too bad, as much as I love Apple I am NOT HAPPY!

    Silicone back for Gen 2

Considering purchasing this product, but does not look like it covers the back of the iPad. My father has the iPad Pro 1st Generation case and he has the silicone case to cover the back as well. I really want to buy this Apple Keyboard but only if Apple can release a silicone back for the 2nd Gen iPad Pro like the 1st Gen one. I hope they pay attention to this post because I can't be the only one who wants to see this.

Consistently fails just after the warranty period

Got the keyboard along with my ipad pro some 2 years ago. While I have several gripes with the ergonomics (mainly the angle of the screen when typing), generally, I was very happy with the product. About 1 year mark, started getting the message that "Accessory is not supported" with intermittent keyboard failures. Refolding the keyboard a couple of times helped with the issue but it kept coming back with increased frequency. Took it to the apple store and got it exchanged. New keyboard worked flawlessly for about 8-9 months and failed again in the same way. Now out of warranty and need to spend another 250 CAD for a product I know will fail in 9-12 months.

Bottom line is that I cannot recommend this product purely for poor quality. I have a number of apple products and had very few issues but in this case, I am extremely disappointed. 1 year lifespan for an expensive accessory that consistently fails does not align to what Apple stands for. Would rank zero stars.

Five stars all the way. And I've tried others...

The Smart Keyboard is a must have for iPad Pro. It is ideal. Compact, easy to use, does exactly what I would expect it to. I misplaced mine and bought a couple others and just ended up returning them. Lesson learned. Stick with the one that was made for it.

    Great Keyboard!

I purchased the 12.9 inch iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard in place of a laptop for my Masters program and it has been a great decision. I have yet to have a situation where I wish I had a laptop instead. Having an iPad that is so responsive and can do really anything I need, as well as something that is highly portable, is a must have for any graduate student. The keyboard is a great addition to the rig. It is highly responsive and I can actually type faster with the iPad keyboard than on my desktop keyboard at work. I highly recommend the product.

Another Sign of the Decline of Apple

This keyboard is a waste of money. Yes, it works great once you get the iPad to recognize it, but that can take some doing and a considerable amount of time and fumbling. I guess for people who use the iPad for fun, it's OK. But it's a WORK tool for me, and an undependable work tool is worse than no tool at all. I've bought several keyboards for iPads, none of which worked very well and were just one more piece of stupid technology I had to haul around, which is what technology has turned into. I thought since Apple made this keyboard, it would work. It does when it feels like it, similarly to the way cats follow commands. But unlike cats, computers are an unfortunate necessity in the workplace, and if they aren't reliable, they're useless. This is one of three pieces of equipment I've purchased from Apple in the past two years that does not do what I very SPECIFICALLY said it needed to do. That's over $5,000 I've spent for tech that is basically used as a doorstop and a paperweight. Apple's sales team can no longer be trusted. Like most sales in the U.S., they will say anything. Thank God for Apple Care. They can't fix the $5,000 of lies, but they will at least tell you the truth. Of course, by then, you've wasted the money.

    Love / Hate Relationships

I started out really liking this keyboard. It was responsive, reasonably sleek as a cover, not to heavy. The keys felt good if not quite what I prefer, a little flat but a good size.

At some point, maybe the release of iOS 10, it became 50/50 or 30/70 whether it worked or not. "Accessory Not Supported" was the taunt from my iPad, leading to restart, removal, cleaning of contacts, and seeing if it worked. None of these steps improved the performance.

Apple has a problem that as of when I stopped using the keyboard they hadn't addressed. Caveat emptor, folks.

    such a shame

It failed shortly after the warranty expired. Frustrating. Expensive. Disappointing. I can't justify buying another one.

    awesome and smooth

I have just ordered the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2017 model and will be getting this keyboard. I've had the 9.7 iPad Pro and use the Smart Keyboard on that one (that 'kit' will be going to my parents :-D ) One of the things I love about the keyboard is the slim softness of the keys. It requires little pressure and just feels like you are gliding along. The magnetic side connection is a no-brainer and you just hold it near and let it tuck itself into place. I have yet to scratch my iPad. I notice like on most devices with magnetic connectivity, if you get dust or dirt it needs to be wiped clean. Keeping one's tech equipment is a good practice anyways. I am excited to be able to get it for the larger model. I will have to get a third party case for the back but there are many excellent ones out there so I'm not worrying. All in all I adore this keyboard.

    Quality Control?

I enjoyed using this keyboard, but I noticed that the plastic part that snaps onto the iPad marred the finish over time. So, I ended up returning it back to the Apple Store for a refund.

If you’ve had one for a while, have a look and I’ll bet that you see yours has been marred as well from just usage.

    I expect better from Apple!

    Disappointed = (

    Like it, but needs improvement

I have owned the Smart Keyboard for 9 months now. My initial impressions were "wow". The feel is definitely different, but it didn't take long to orient myself to the keyboard. The romance wore off once I started experiencing poor typing performance while situated on my lap. It must be supported under the keyboard or else the keystrokes are not registered. I have resorted to using a laptop pad under the keyboard to give better performance. The second major disappointment is the keyboard will randomly stop receiving any keyboard strokes. I have removed the iPad Pro from the connection to the Smart Keyboard, cleaned it, to no avail. The only solution is to turn the iPad Pro completely off and then turn on. Then the keyboard works. The maximum amount of time I have been able to use the keyboard without any problems is no more than a week. Then I must turn it off and on again. I have called Apple about the problem and the pretend they know how to solve the problem to no avail again. The only solution Apple has given is to take it in to an Apple Store to troubleshoot and possibly replace it. My opinion is the keyboard it too delicate. When the keyboard is in the typing position and I want to fold the keyboard in front of the screen to pack it the keyboard has a tendency to flop down and hang. This has happened to me a number of times. I think the wiring inside gets damaged each time the keyboard dangles down. I would have rated the keyboard 1 star, but I do like it minus the problems. Apple, do something more than just extend the warranty to 3 years. Improve the design.
