    Doesn't work with new ipad

Spent a huge amount of cash on new ipad pro with the express intention of using the SD card for work - but guess what - it doesn't work!
It works on my iPhone SE but it would seem the ios on the new ipad pro is not compatible. Deep joy :-(
Does anyone know if apple are going to remedy this or do I need to return it??

    Beyong disappointing...

I should have read all those bad comments before considering buying this... suprisingly to find out the same old problem exists for 2 years and Apple Cares doesn't seems to care at all - seems no in their consideration to fix it.

The ONLY reason I purchased this device was to move photos and video I took with my GoPro cam from the micro-SD card to my iPhone and/or iPad. Now Apple has my money and I have a adapter that does not work for me as the device simply counldn't recognise files not in their expected default format.

Unlike some of the professional digital camera, the viedo and photos I've taken with my cam are not stored in the folder named DCIM. My cam takes photos and videos and stores them in a removable micro SD card in folders named JPG and VIDEO, and this device imports photos and/or videos from the SD card if the photos and videos are stored in a folder named DCIM which means is completely useless to me.

I really hope that Apple could fix it or people would consider to buy this product will read this comment as Apple's description does not bring this issue upfront. Don't waste $$ in it if you are expecting something more that importing photos taken from a professional carmera with Apple's default format into your iPhone / iPad.

    This product is not recommended.

    Useless. Please don’t buy this.

I purchased this adapter, hoping it would help me get a couple of pictures edited in Lightroom on my iPad while on the go, it does read the card, but is -incredibly- slow, takes about 2-5 seconds to read each picture (I shoot RAW format) so I get the size of the pictures is large, but if you take hundreds of pictures in your card you’re gonna have to wait hours for them to load before you can import them, so not useful at all, might as well get a WiFi dongle for your camera or something to send them to your iPad instead of this adapter. (Tried it on iPad mini and iPad Pro)

Overpriced device that has extremely limited functionality

Literally the only use for this 45$ piece of technology is for the photos app to create tiny thumbnails which you can import. There is no way of viewing photos, videos or files on the screen card without importing them first. There is no way to sort through the files on your sd card before import with anything more than 1cm thumbnails. The iPad is marketed as a photo processing device but falls laughably short. Due to apples strategic software decision to limit the functionality of these devices they purposefully handicap the processing power of a 1100$ iPad. Absolutely infuriating.

Hardware is fine software on iOS is garbage

It can’t read the files unless a camera created the files even if you drop the files in the directory. I’m returning mine back to Best Buy in the morning tomorrow.

Only Apple could get away with something so useless

So dumbed down that it is nearly useless.

    1. Can only be used by photo app.
    2. Cannot see directory/file structure of card.
    3. Cannot write to card.
    4. Cannot import or even see files on card that aren't named a certain way.

    Waste of money

Thanks apple for again making the most simple thing to do on any other platform not work on yours. This is stupid. Why does this not work on an iPad pro but works just fine on an iPhone 7 plus?!? Ridiculous. As advertised being able to replace a (or any for that matter) laptop is quite simply false advertising. I have a glitchy surface 3 with half the on paper computing power as this iPad pro and I can plug any memory card in and it reads and transfers images and files in or out... Why is this only stated to import but won't even do that???

    Not working

I bought this item to view/edit trail cam pictures. I have not had any issues with the import process, but my issue is once the phot(s) import. Once my pictures import to my phone, they appear cropped or zoomed to where the full picture is not viewable. I spent 3 hours on the phone with 2 Apple techs and it was determined that my sd reader may be bad. They sent me a brand new one and I still have the same issues. I've checked every setting I can think of on my phone. I've tried it on 2 other devices and the pictures are the same (cropped/zoomed). Very frustrating. Will be trying to send all products back.

Went from 10.1.1 to 10.3.3 now reader wont work

Apple needs to fix this or give the option to go back to old version. It's not the reader; it works fine on other iPads in my house.

An essential for any travel photographer

Really useful accessory for any travel photographer. I have found it very useful for quickly getting a lot of photos off my camera onto my phone for editing (quicker and simpler than my Fujifilm X100T's built in wifi) and also allows me to immediately back up all the photos from my trip to my iCloud photo library

Essential purchase - probably could be slightly cheaper though!

    Fantastic piece of kit

Bought this SD card reader with great trepidation after reading several reviews suggesting it may not work or if it does would not transfer videos. iPhone 6s running IOS 10.3.3. SD card from wildlife cam. Works perfectly. Can choose which photos or vids to transfer. Very pleased with purchase.
Did buy from official Apple site to avoid potential fakes.

    lightning to SD card reader

I have read most of the reviews, and after getting my Reader I found out HAY IT WORKS, WOW....... So what I can tell you is I am running the 10.3.3 software and when I first use it on my phone... notting happened ? So it look liked that the lightning adapter was seated all the way in but is was not, because my phone case was not letting it touch all the way in. So try taking off your case because when I did, it seated all the way and a second later the photo app. open and there was a import tab at the bottom. it works great!!!!!!!

Just like all of the other reviews, the reader is either slow or just isn't detected by the iPhone. I have an iPhone 6, and i tried multiple ways of connecting the cable to the phone and card into the reader. My phone simply doesn't detect it. No import option appears. Such a disappointment. DO NOT BUY. Most of the reviews that say it works are from previous IOS updates. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH RECENT IOS.

Does what it says on the box, but not a tool for Pro's

My comments are limited to the following. Used with an iPad 10.5 Pro. Only used to import Nikon Raw images. I shoot a lot of frames in one sitting. Purchased as an alternative to using Eye-Fi Mobi card.

I agree with other comments posted. Whilst it does what it says (imports photos from SD to iPad) it's very narrow in terms of what it does. It automatically launches the iPad Photos app and provides thumbnails which can be selected. The only choice for these is to import or delete. Apparent import is reasonably fast, but you're left wondering what's happened or is happening. Photos is pre-occupied with it's way of organising content and it will also attempt to upload all of your shots to iCloud (if you've turned that feature on). I shoot large numbers of frame at a time (typically 700, 24 megapixel, NEF). I'll use this product as a way of getting to look at photos in the field, fast but it's so disruptive to my workflow that I doubt it will be my usual choice).

Recommend you don't use this if your iPad is low on power.

Recommend NEVER (and this goes for any application) allowing iPad to delete some, or all of the shots on the card being read. Only ever delete card contents when you are certain they're on your preferred storage, and even then only by using the Camera's own card format, or photo delete function.

Would urge Apple to allow this tool to work with other Graphics Apps on iPad, and/or, allow full size viewing of frames as part of the review import process. At present you're forced to import all frame before you can start making editorial decisions.
