    Dreadful product that doesn’t work

Unimpressed when first bought (the way it sticks out to charge - come on Apple you understand design WAY better than that) I left it in the box for awhile. Having decided to give it another go, it won’t pair. At all. Flashes paired for a second, then unpairs. Turned Bluetooth off then on, charger pencil, turned iPad off then on, nothing. Then suddenly it paired, refused to work on any application then unpaired itself. Now residing in my bin, carefully snapped in two (outside warranty). Read the reviews and the forums with keyword of pairing and save yourself some money.

Such a great product yet again from apple. Above my expectation. Few things they could have taken care are :

    1. Bit more rough surface or add a grip,
    2. The surface of Apple Pencil and tip is too smooth but manageable,
    3. They could have made it compatible for other iPad models too

Other than this it is such an amazing product. Things I liked most about this device is :
    1. Precision
    2. Quality
    3. Battery back up
    4. Portability
    5. Sleek
    And many more...

    Pairing issues

I seem to be having the same issues as everyone on apple help discussion thread 7982309. Pairs for 2 seconds and then disconnects - and subsequently tells you it is taking too long to pair when you try again. Apple support leave you stranded if it doesn't work after 1) rebooting 2) trying with another iPad pro (not sure how many of us keep spares lying around). It can take you 20 mins to get this advice over apple chat. Looks like there's no choice but to get a replacement which isn't covered (common theme with apple - I'm also on my third smart keyboard in 2 years). Apple products work great - if they work, but it seems like an all or nothing when it comes to repairs or faulty products - really get the impression that all of this is a bit of a scam.

    Very accurate

Very good device, got it for school notes and has been serving me well. Very accurate drawing and writing in almost all apps. Only complaint is that it doesn't come with a case, but I just use the original packaging and it is still good as new.

    Poor documentation for Pencil

The Pencil box lists several places “designed in California”. Wow. Print on the unusually sized paper is very small and so light that that this user found it a waist if time to look at. Suggest a much much larger text for a web site for at least the safety information perhaps you could through in user information. I expected much more for $100 and from Apple. Over priced and difficult to find documentation. The designers must be so proud!
Based on FAQ I am not the only one wanting more from information. Please think about customers once in a while.

    What a device

Just got my pencil and iPad Pro. Strange thing is I can't put the thing down, it's so addictive once you get going. The only gripe I have, along with other people it seems, is the loose cap and lightning adapter. Both are easily lost.
Once again Apple have taken the technological lead.

Love it but can use some improvements

Love it! Performancewise - it does the job (that’s my 3 stars) but please make it worth the price. iPad Pro users will always buy the Apple Pencil, so you guys dont need to worry about losing buyers, but please think of your customers as well. Again I really love it - and here are my BUTS ———Once you misplace it and it’s battery dies...sigh I can’t find mine since the battery is dead. And I am so angry because right now, I can’t afford to get one. Need to design it in such a way that once it’s not being used, like the iPhone, iPads, and MACBOOKS, power off so batt doesn’t die and put a beep sound and add it to the list of devices that could be found using the Find My app.. For $99, throw in more accessories to it, like a grips in different colors (or better yet, design a textured one for a better grip). Also throw in different color tips and lightning adaptors and the Belkin case with it. Also add more colors and not just white. Rose, grey, gold? Design is cool, sleek, but not practical - it is slippery, will slide on an incline, cap is easily dislodged. Why not a cap that screws on and off and is magnetic at the same time? Also add a clip to it, different colors too, just so that it can be clipped on breast pockets. Hopefully, at least some of these wishes of mine will come true.

After purchasing the pencil I loved this product however in a short 1 1/2 years it just quit working.
Considering the premium price for this product you would think it would last longer.
Did everything right....kept it charged....never dropped.....never wet. Tried all recommendations.
The monthly cost for me over 1 1/2 years $7-$8 a month.....way to much.
Contacted Apple support and replacement cost would be $120.....new they are $129....can’t be repaired.
    Poor product....no support.....
    Don’t buy it.

    Looooove my Apple Pencil

I was hesitant to get the pencil based off the reviews. Well, I went ahead and bought it cause why not! lets live life on the edge. Four months later and I am still beyond happy with my purchase. I use it for my business, my son uses it to color, I use it to journal. I even got one of my clients to buy one and she loves it also. If you want it, buy it. don't second guess it. It is worth it.

    Nice, but improvements needed

The Apple pen works wonderfully. I love it, but lacks some of the design details that Apple is famous for.
    1. Plugging the pen into the iPad for a quick charge is a disaster waiting to happen. It doesn’t sit flat and puts pressure on the connector. Bumping it will snap it in two.
    2. It’s too easy to lose the little cap & charger adapter.
    3. The pen rolls away too easily & needs some texture, (i.e. knurling) for tactile feedback
    4. The pen is significantly longer than “regular” pens so it tends to not fit in your shirt pocket or other pencil holders
Some of this may sound like nitpicking, but Apple is famous for thinking about these little details and making you go, “that’s clever” whenever you use one of their products. It just seems that the same thought did not go into the pen.

    Almost Perfect

The precision, connectivity, and battery life of this product is excellent. A few things need to be changed in order for this to be a five star product.
First of all, the glossy coating is awful. It becomes slippery after using for a while and I had to go out and buy a grip for the pencil after one day of using it without one. Furthermore, the round shape, while elegant, is not intuitive. With a delicate electronic pencil, a shape that would prevent it from rolling off of your work surface would be ideal (thumbs up to Griffin for tachling both of these problems with their triangle-shaped grip).
Although these problems were remedied with the grip I purchased from Griffin, for $99, I expect a product that has no need for accessories.

    I Fixed My Problem!

An hour ago I would have given one star. Last week my iPad pencil started working all wierd. It’s been perfect for the 18 months I’ve had it. I’m writing this in case someone else is having this issue. For about 5 minutes sometimes, it would work. But other times it wouldn’t open apps, put in my password, wouldn’t scroll, would type multiple letters with one keystroke, etc. I began to HATE my beloved pencil. I had a case in with Apple & since it’s out of warranty, it’s not covered. I was reading through the reviews & someone said the tip unscrews. I didn’t know that. I unscrewed it & screwed it back on just until it tightened. It’s working again. Yay!!

Great technology STUPID LITTLE CAP No Eraser bad charging

I like my apple pencil. I use it for taking notes for work and school. My kids love drawing with it.

My issue: How is it that Apple can develop a phone and iPad that can survive a 3 foot drop but the apple pencil cant. Let me be more specific, The stupid plastic cap (that you have to buy for $11 at the apple store) is super prone to cracking if the pencil is dropped or if it rolls off a table (which is bound to happen because there is nothing from keeping the pencil from rolling). I have cracked 2 caps like this and feel pretty frustrated with this product.

    Pretty much perfect

It works beautifully! Connects easily. You can rest your hand on the screen and there’s no problem. Nebo is a wonderful app if you want to convert text to type and I can write for hours and end up with a decent draft from which to work. It has a lovely feel; light but with a little bit of heft. Very smooth but not slippery. Holds a charge well, and recharges quickly. You just need to be careful to have a system or good habits in place to not lose it! Also, I use a ballistic glass screen protector and have no problem with it. I love it!

Battery dead even not used often

Have purchased the Apple Pencil with the iPad Pro when first launched. For the past 1.5 - 2 years, I have only used the Apple Pencil for about a few times (less than 10) as the iPad was mainly used for email, web browsing and YouTube. Recently when I tried to charge and connect my Apple Pencil, it kept getting disconnected and eventually not able to get detected by Bluetooth (exact issues encountered by many users mentioned in different forums). I tried many methods as suggested by apple support/ advisor and nothing worked. Long story short apple basically was telling me that the issue of dead battery is caused by me not using the Apple Pencil enough... Like serious? I have old iPhones and iPads left in my drawers unused for many years and whenever I plugged them back to a charging cable I was able to turn them back on and they would function normally.

A huge disappointment with the Apple Pencil and for Apple blaming me for the issue, never thought the battery would die in such a short period of time. This experience gives me the impression that the Apple Pencil was built with low quality parts... Somehow I believe there could potentially be a class action lawsuit eventually as many users have experienced the EXACT SAME ISSUES after owning the product for about the SAME AMOUNT OF TIME.

    Amazing concept!

I love the Apple Pencil as it helped me with writing notes for college and drawing during my free time. The pressure sensitive tip also works tremendously. I just don’t get why they removed the ‘3D Touch’ feature throughout the OS in iOS 11. Otherwise, it is an amazing product. As I haven’t gotten a case yet, I use the original box as one.

Overall, I want to give 5 stars, however I just can’t find the reason to.

So slippery, fatiguing to use. Design fail.

This pencil is wonderful in how it operates electronically. It’s a terrific piece of technology. But, I’m no longer willing to be nice about Apple’s obsession with making everything slippery. I can handle it with things that everyone will put a case on anyway—iPhone, iPad, etc., but this is not okay for a pencil. You have to be able to grip the thing to use it well, and this is not only smooth plastic, it is especially slippery surfaced smooth plastic. Many fine pens are smooth plastic but manage to be super grippy somehow (Mont Blanc) or are smooth lacquer but super grippy (Waterman, Pelikan).

But Apple, notice how most all cheaper pens have gone to adding grippy rubber sections? Maybe there is a market for pens that are not slippery. For design and not taking uses on a tablet, there are already many things lined up to make the tasks fatiguing to one’s hand. The utter slipperiness of the pencil/pen itself does not have to be one of them. I find this terrible, so off I go, hunting online for aftermarket solutions to something Apple messed up in the obsession that chronically puts form over function. It is really unfortunate because this is a nice piece of gear, otherwise, and the iPad Pro, while priced crazy high, is a nice device.

    Apple Pencil

This pencil stinks and Apple needs to redesign it!

    1) why is there no flip top instead of the cap?

    2) battery life awful

    3) color and material inadequate, more color choices and even material would help. You would not want to use this on a job site, finish not durable enough.

    4) serial number is so small that, I do not even wear glasses and you need as magnifying glass to see and its barley plausible. Apple stupity on this one! You Americans can’t do anything righty can you any-longer!

    5) why is charging such poor issue?

    6) why no case for the 99.00 cost??!!

I have yet to see one good review either.....

Apple get it together! And offer a refund w/buyback like Volkswagen, for the old one too that would help! Learn from Volkswagen AG and other automakers, whom stood up to their mistakes....

    Design Flaws

The pen works well with my iPad Pro 10.5. However, I really do not like the design of the cap on the end since it attaches to the pen magnetically and the magnetic isn't very strong. I'm afraid it's going to get knocked off and lost. Also if you are trying to pull your pen out of a pen case or something the cap comes off by then pen doesn't come out since the cap doesn't attach well. Also, it's hard having such a tiny lightening adapter be so necessary for charging the pen. I'm also afraid of losing the adapter. It also seems that the pen doesn't have long of a battery life. I wish that the pen would light up and show you how much battery you have left on it. It was nice of apple to include another pen tip in the packaging.
