From the first song I played after I unboxed this thing I was blown away. This speaker is extremely loud especially for its size. I songs with bass it songs great but doesn't over power like some past beats products. On rock and other types it's crisp and clear. I would easily say this is the best mid size Bluetooth portable speaker. I had a UE boom and I thought that thing was nice when I first got it. But the pill+ blows that out of the water by a lot. Looks like Apple is making beats awesome for all types of music to be played. Also making beats classier with their design. Keep it up Apple you have converted a once skeptic of beats to a huge fan. I'm not surprised as I knew apple would put there name on something that wasn't best in class. WATCH OUT BOSE YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED!!

    Very Good Speaker!

    • Written by Aaron C from Crystal Lake

The Beats Pill+ is kind of amazing. I moved recently and decided to not bring along my trusty Bose computer speakers due to the cumbersome nature of their size and power brick. After being speaker-less for a while I decided to get this. At first I was unconvinced that its size would produce the kind of sound that I wanted, but after a couple days I was absolutely sure this fulfilled my needs. I'm kind of an audio freak and also have a several thousand dollar stereo system. So I know what good sound is. Does this live up to a high end stereo? Of course not. But people - for something the size of a Subway sandwich, I'm absolutely blown away at the quality of this. I keep wondering where the bass is coming from! But don't get me wrong - this isn't just an overpriced subwoofer... the Pill+'s mid and highs are top notch too. I literally can't get over that the sound is coming from this little thing!

The design definitely harkens to Apple design - it's simple, elegant, and understated. I found the original and 2.0 version of the Pill to be garish, and this redesign just puts it to shame. Starting with the simple control buttons (there's power, volume up, volume down, and the 'b' logo) they're coated in a nice, thick, yet responsive rubber material. The have good click and good travel and I never found myself wondering where the buttons were or if I had pressed them. This Pill+ is heavy too! It feels solid and I have no fears that it will easily be damaged. In fact this may damage anything it comes in contact with.

The back features a two-stage port cover. The very tip of the cover can be undone to expose only the Lightning Port for charging/keeping plugged in. The cover can also be completely moved to the side to show a USB port for plugging in a cable to charge electronics on the go and a 3.5mm jack. It's a really cool design that doesn't require you to have a cover hanging off for charging.

My only concern is an early adopter concern: I hope they don't come out with a Space Gray version, otherwise my OCD may make me upgrade. But this black is hella good looking all things considered and probably more svelte than a pseudo silver object... but who knows.

At first I was concerned that they're planning a new Pill+ XL, and I'll feel bad I got this, but honestly, I doubt I'm ever going to need more bluetooth/portable power than what this pumps out. I have a stereo system for that. This thing gets LOUD and not at the expense of quality.

The app is well put together as expected from an Apple product, but don't expect to use it often. It's usefulness really comes into play if you have two, or you're listening to music with a friend. With two Pills you can link them to either get louder sound, or operate as L-R stereo. With a friend you can enter 'DJ Mode' which allows you to take turns playing music from your respective phones/sources.

This shines with Apple products and just instantly works... sometimes bluetooth devices can be hit or miss with operation, but the Beats Pill+ is identified in the notification center with the Beats symbol and battery life and it "just works" when you press buttons and instantly finds your device and is ready to play in a matter of seconds.

You pay a small premium for the Beats/Apple brand, but other speakers are priced at around $200 (such as highly regarded Bose bluetooth speaker) and I found this product fit my life better than the others.

Exactly what I was looking for!

    • Written by Cael G from Redwood City

    + Sounds amazing.
+ Small size (about an iPhone and a half in length).
+ Well made. Has heft to it, doesn't feel flimsy.
+ Charges through lightning cable. A plus if you're like me and already have a few chargers laying around the house from your other iOS devices.
    + Looks good.

    - Kinda pricey. You can do research and maybe find one that sounds as good for cheaper. However, the Pill+ sounds good, looks good, and is well made; making it worth the money IMHO.

Best in Speaker Availible in Category

    • Written by Callan S from Falkirk

Had previously used the Bose Sound Link mini before purchasing this, and like everyone before shelling out almost £190 wanted to make sure I was getting the best speaker availible. Opted for the Beats Pill+ and it is fair to say I was extremely pleased! To anyone struggling to decide between the 2 products, I encourage you to try out the Beats Pill+ as the sound is fantastic! Very clear and extraordinarily loud for a speaker of it's size.

    Such a great product

    • Written by Matthew C from Newcastle upon Tyne

I bought this product for myself as I listen to music quite a lot. I previously had a Bose soundLink mini 2 but then took a risk and bought the BeatsPill+ because of its additional features. Best decision ever. The BeatsPill+ is much louder than the previous speaker I had, and the bass is so rich whilst the overall sound is crisp and high quality. The design is stunning, and I love the feature of being able to charge my iPhone when I'm out with the speaker. The sound that comes from the BeatsPill+ can be really loud on full volume and is yet a small little thing. So happy with my purchase.

    Great portable speaker

    • Written by Dale S

Had a few portable speakers, but managed to get one through my work and I have to say how impressed I am with the quality of sound from this small device. I have it wirelessly connected to MyCloud so all I have to do is switch it on and my iPod does the rest. Also with it being portable I can move it around the house without losing connectivity. A* product and would reccommend to anyone thinking of getting a bluetooth speaker. Well done Beats, this is great technology.

    Great sounding speaker!

    • Written by Chris L from Vancouver

I recently purchased this product with the intention of returning it if I wasn't satisfied. I found the reviews were all over the place. Overall, I was very impressed with the sound and build quality. I was expecting a bass focused product, and found it to have a very balanced sound. Drums and acoustic guitar sound amazing and there's no degradation of sound at higher volumes. I don't like Bluetooth connections and wish that the speaker acted more like an AirPlay devices, but I really appreciate the dj mode. I really like that this speaker is built with the intention of software updates and would warmly welcome improvements on AirPlay, the addition of an equalizer, and an auto on feature when connected to 3.5mm audio and plugged in. Overall, I was surprised with the speakers performance and would recommend the purchase.

    Super Bluetooth Speaker

    • Written by John S from Bayville

Great sound and excellent build quality. I have tried several wireless speakers, and this is my favorite. Surprisingly excellent sound quality for its size. I prefer the Beats Pill + to my Bose SoundLink II or Minirig. It also looks great.

    Old vs New

    • Written by Carlo R from Simi Valley

I really didn't like the old Beats Pill XL. But this new Beats Pill Portable is a lot better than the old system. The bass sounds warmer and the treble is not too overwhelming. The bass radiator on this version is positioned correctly so it's more pronounced compared to the XL.

I sold my Bose Soundlink Mini to purchase the Beats Pill. Overall, I'm more satisfied with this Beats product than Bose Soundlink Mini. Bose overdrives their bass so you can't really push the speaker that much because the compressor starts kicking in.

    Well designed and great sound

    • Written by Fayaz K from Toronto

Good bye Bose Soundlink mini. There are lots of things to say about the new Beats pill + speakers. First, the design is so attractive and love the lighten B sign on top. Can I use it as a flashlight??? Why not, it is bright enough. Pairing is straight forward. Second, the sound. Well balanced sound and very loud! It is always good to adjust the equalizer from the source. Third, it is light enough to carry with you everywhere. I travel a lot, therefore I just put it in my hand luggage and voila, I am ready to go. And lastly, the charging connection uses lightning. So you can also charge your iPhone. You can also see the battery percentage in iOS notification. The battery life is also great.

Do not hesitate buying this product, I am sure you will love it.

    Amazing sound

    • Written by Christian F from San Francisco

I've had the pill+ for about a week now and LOVE it! I was debating between this and the UE Boom 2 and am very happy with my choice as I like just bringing my lightning cable, phone, and pill+ with me and not having to worry about an extra mini usb cable 2. The form factor is awesome and the all black looks sexy. Sound quality is on point. I've used this outside by the beach with waves rolling in and I can still hear it crystal clear. Been listening to a lot of Kygo lately too and the bass sounds even better than on my car! Been listening to Beats 1 radio a lot on this and just super stoked! If you get this you won't be disappointed :)

Many have already commented on the build and look of the speaker so I do not need to repeat. It is beautiful and well made, as you would expect from Apple.

I also found the sound quality outstanding for its size. There is a clarity to the sound that is hard to describe. This clarity extends to the base, which is strong and "natural." I read somewhere that the previous Beats have boosted base to give a booming effect which some people here mistaken it as "good" and "strong" base. It is not, it distorts the base so everything, including human voice, all has an artificial baritone quality to it.

The best feature of the speaker is how well and easy it connects to your devices. Once paired, all you have to do is to turn on the speaker and it will be automatically connected to your device. Most of the other bluetooth devices or adapters often require you to turn it on and then connect in two separate steps. This small thing makes using the speaker so much easier and enjoyable. Would be it even better to give us the option to leave the speaker in the stand-by mode so we don't even need to physically turn it on each time?

I bought this with the $60 Apple music promotion, and even without it I still think it is a great product for your Apple devices.

    Great speaker

    • Written by Chad M from Charlotte

I've had the speaker for about a week now. For the price and the size, it is a great speaker. I've used it inside and outside. I have no complaints about the speaker. The bag could use some work. It offers little to no protection. I have the last version of the the beats bill and the neoprene case seems to have enough padding to protects the speaker while it's in your backpack, etc.

Super Loud, filled room and perfect Bass and Mids....JUST AMAZING experienc

    • Written by Rajesh W from Pune

I am loving this portable device, rich sound, filled room experience with well balanced sound (Bass, Mids, Treble). I think I ll buy the 2nd speaker also to experience the Left Right stereo sound. Its already a stereo but a wide stereo sound in a bigger room needs 2nd speaker will be a great experience.

But I am amazed with the portable wire-free device is a very convenient device Apple has made, no wires cant believe it. No compromise on sound.

    Go for it.

Overall if your looking for a strong long lasting small speaker then I strongly recommend this product :) PS I chose the white color and I love it to match my Iphone and furniture.

Received this as a Christmas gift and was blown away! The sound is so clear and volume turns up loud enough to power through any large party. Charges up pretty quickly too. Family members had other speakers like the older version beats pill and a bose soundlink, but nothing compared to this one! Overall fantastic, and am so happy with this new speaker!
