    Thanks Apple

Let's make a tiny remote out of glass. It will shatter then we can charge our stupid customers 80 bucks for a new one.

    Fool Me Once

We are an Apple household. I can't even begin to count the number of apple products we now own or have owned in the past including 4 Apple TVs. We were planning to replace the older AppleTV in the Master bedroom until the remote on the new generation AppleTV smashed from a short drop. It shouldn't have even had a scratch but instead the entire corner shattered like it had been thrown up against a wall. I'm more than a little disappointed, I'm angry and I want Apple to replace or repair my remote at no charge since after reading the reviews on the remote there clearly are design flaws. Poorly done, Apple!

    Horrible Remote

Dropped from a short distance, but hit perfect and shattered the remote. Got a little bit of the fragile glass stuck in my finger, careful around kids. Buy a case for it...which is another expense to this terribly designed remote.

    Pretty good!

I think it is a good little remote. For the people complaining about it shattering, I'd hate to see what their phones look like...

    Volume Button On the Right

If there is anything that benefits from asymmetry, it is a remote control. The Siri Remote is nice to look at but awful to use. The only way to tell if one is holding it correctly is to feel around for the big volume button; if it is on the right hand side, the remote is facing forward. The touch pad is misery made real. You cannot hold or handle the remote as you would a normal remote because you run the chance of accidentally initiating an action like pausing or fast forwarding. You have to use the remote and then put it down or make sure you hold it like a delicate hothouse flower. Can't believe this was designed by Apple.

    Disappointing on Many Levels

For a company known for its design, they missed the mark on this one. Easily gets lost in furniture, the inability to determine the correct remote orientation by feel (in the dark), fragile and ceases to work after only a few drops are all contributors to my low rating.

This remote is certainly not friendly for a home with kids as the durability is worse than any smartphone I've ever owned.

Pros: Siri, responsive, battery. Cons: fragile, slippery, slender, touchpad

    It's good, not $80 good

    Not too impressed

Ive only had this remote for about 2 months now and the swipe portion is intermittently not working, It is way too fragile and the ergonomics are a bit lame as well. The cost for a replacement is way too expensive.

    Won't recharge.

Very disappointing! We have only used this Apple TV and remote for 10 months and the remote won't recharge. It took almost that long to even need a recharge so not sure if it ever did work. I have tried direct plug to the wall and recharge via computer. Nothing works. Replacements are overpriced and I shouldn't need to buy one within a year or two for that matter. FIX YOUR QUALITY AND SERVICE!

    Poor Ergonomics

Take a look at the remote. There is no way to distinguish which way the remote is oriented by touch. If the menu button had a textured feel or a "bump", the remote would be much easier to use in low lighting.

    It will shatter!

The remote functionality is great, volume control, turning on the TV itself, useful microphone for searches and password typing (you can spell the password!). But be aware that it will not last too long, actually till your first drop; the touch screen will shatter and may work or not after that. In our first (1 feet) drop, the shattered touch pad still worked, after the second drop (also 1 feet) it become unresponsive. This is a terrible design (glass on a family TV remote)?
My suggestion is that Apple should, as it does with the iphones, immediatly suggest a case for the remote when you shop for the ATV or remote. That would promptly catch the customer attention toward its fragility.
To make things even worst, Apple will rip you off by charging 80 dollars for a new one. If you buy, immediatly look for a protective case on Amazon. I wish I knew it was so sensitive before mine became useless.

Worst Apple product I've used in my life

This is the ultimate proof that either Apple doesn't care or doesn't test their stuff anymore. Anyone with a few minutes with this product would have realized how terrible it is:

    - Symmetrical: you need to look at the remote to figure how to figure out how you are holding it. Remotes are meant to be used without looking, well not the case for this one.
    - Too slim: the ergonomic properties are a disaster, its extremely uncomfortable to hold.
    - Touchpad is a gimmick: Its useless. It makes controlling the Apple tv harder than regular buttons. 0 added benefit.
    - It's made of GLASS: who makes a $80 non serviceable remote out of glass?

Worst product in +40 years of history.

And by the way, this product had +50 reviews totalling a 1.0 average rating and not surprisingly all of them disappeared. Apple: instead of censoring, deleting and negating reality fix your stuff.

    Extremely Frustrating

The top of the remote is touch sensitive, and this sensitivity extends down into the level of the first row of buttons. As I would try to navigate my TV and push buttons, it would VERY often read my finger movements near the buttons as swipes and ruin whatever I was trying to do.

Extremely unimpressed with the products Apple puts out these days. The further insult is that the only thing that's truly reliable is that Apple charges twice as much as they reasonably should (even if the products worked perfectly). I've been a Mac user for almost 20 years now, but for me all sense of loyalty I used to have to the Apple brand = history.

    Great features but to small

As far as features and function I don't have any complaints. Holding it is the problem. The remote is not Ergonomic and provides no grip and is just too thin. might be good if there was a case on the market that didn't block the function of the track pad.

    Good

I got my Apple TV Tuesday, February 14, 2017 and so far my impressions are great! As far as the remote goes, it has great build quality, but from what I've heard the glass is extremely fragile. Everything works as advertised so far and I haven't had any problems!

Awesome Remote, don't understand the negative reviews

Yes the top part of remote is made of glass and yes, it is not made of aluminum or plastic like the previous versions. Don't understand why people are ranting against it. But people just need to understand its glass and handle it accordingly or get a silicone case for protection.

The design and interface is flawless, the remote and functions are more inline with the ipad and iphone i.e. click on the home button twice and then push apps upward to close the apps. Spend a few moments when you buy this, and learn more about it and then decide whether this awesome piece of invention is right for you. If not, return it within the return policy time frame. Apple always makes cutting edge products, this one is no different, get onboard. This review is coming from a home that has a Roku and Amazon Firestick (both have traditional plastic remotes), and hands down the Apple TV with remote is better than both.
