    Pretty good...

Ok, I like the functionalities of this remote, but am constantly worried about dropping it. I bought a remote strap to ease my fears, liking the fact that if it slips, it won't shatter as other reviewers say it does. Pretty good, not the best.

    Shattered Remote

Dropped the remote once and the glass shattered. I'm disappointed in Apple products and how easily the glass shatters. It's expensive to replace the glass or device. Starting to get frustrated with Apple.

    Shattered!!!

This remote is very fragile and the replacement is over-priced. Like others, mine shattered when dropped from coffee table. Apple should make this more sturdy considering the function. Very Disappointed!!!

Do not drop the remote...It breaks!

Honestly, with the number of people having shattered remote reviewing this remote, I don't understand why Apple is not issuing some sort of recall or some sort of arrangement. Is there a notice in the box saying not to drop the remote or to purchase a protective shell?

I love my Apple TV, my IPad, my IPhone, my IPod touch (3). But come on Apple, Charging 99$ Can for a new remote that you already knew would break( How could you have not know this do you even test this in the lab?)

    Siri Remote

I set up Apple Tv, handed the remote to my 10year old, who dropped and and it immediately shattered. How could Apple release such a bad design? There had to be testing down right? Maybe that's why they want $89.99 for a new one.

    Very disappointed

I got the apple TV when I subscribed DirectvNow. I was very excited when I received it. Now that I have been using it for two months, I have to say there are plenty of room for improvement. I agree with other reviews and I'd like to add that the remote is really slippery and difficult to control. With regards to Siri, again a lot of rooms for improvement. This remote is the worst product I have ever used coming from Apple. Hope they will improve it soon enough.

    Unfortunately emblematic of current Apple

This is a terrible product. Looks nice, hard to use, fragile, expensive, offers no more functionality than previous designs. Apple is out of control. Ive without Jobs is a disaster. Pick it up and you accidentally hit the pad. Cat walks on it and changes the program. Hard to tell up from down. Nothing to like. But it looks nice. What else matters?

    Completely shattered when dropped

This is crazy expensive device that can easily break. I don't need a glass remote I need a remote that will function!

A step back from the original Apple TV remote

The Siri functionality is nice, but the remote itself is a giant step backwards for design:
    * The whole thing is hollow and cheap feeling, not solid like the original remote.
    * You'll click more with this remote than you ever did with the old one. And now the clicks are louder.
    * The buttons are raised and have generous tolerances that allow for too much wiggling and too much stuff (debris or moisture) to get trapped.
    * Worst of all, half of the face is glass that doesn't even have a lip/edge to protect it. Look at it wrong, and it will chip. Drop if from nearly any height or accidentally lean on it while it rests next to you, and you'll have a lovely, sharp mess to clean up. It's like Apple didn't learn anything from using glass decoratively on the iPhone 4.

If you buy the new TV, by all means spring for Apple Care; otherwise, you'll be right back at the store purchasing a replacement remote for $79. Funny enough, when I purchased my replacement remote last night, the Apple employee who checked me out was incredulous that the remote cost so much. He kept telling me that $79 too much. For something as fragile as this, I agree completely.

Is okay I was hoping it could be better

Well it's okay sometime it freezes on me when I'm using it and I wish there was a mute button. I don't like the fact that it's way to sensitive even if i have it on the slow.

    The remote... ugh!!!

There's simply no way to warn someone about how much they will dislike this remote. I haven't, yet, had it break like many describe, but the fact that you can't just chill on the couch with your remote next to you really stinks! Any false movement and you're pausing, skipping, exiting, calling on Siri. The touch pad is a big, big let down! Wish I could give it ZERO stars. How about a call-back Apple?

Retired to the things I can't throw away drawer

Worked pretty well even with complaints of tactile directionality, especially siri functionality, but after being doused a little from spilt water on a coffee table, it's completely broken. Now using the phone as a remote...really don't want to pay 80 for a replacement. The TV was already 200 new, so almost half the price of the TV is the fragile remote? Nah.

    Shattered Remote

As everyone else, my remote shattered when it hit the ground. Everyone complains from same problem and Apple has not done anything to fix it. I was looking for a protective pouch but of course Apple does not offer one. Why would they? The remote is so brittle that the lightest drop will break it. 79$ worth piece of glass.... Thank you so much Apple. Do something about it and stop scamming people by claiming best quality products...

    Shattered Apple TV remote

I have just dropped my tv remote on our hardwood floor and it shattered. I am shocked by the poor design choice of Apple. Glass on a tv remote? Really Apple? I will call Apple tomorrow and expect not less than a free of charge replacement. I have read various similar stories online from other customers who had the same misfortune and I hope that Apple will stand behind the quality of its product. For the time being I am under shock.

    0 stars if I could

The One (and only) "pro" of the remote is IR volume control. The rest is terrible.
The remote detects swipes when there are none making it impossible to use the Apple TV 4 with DirecTV Now as the swipes change the channel in the app.

Too hard to hold. Too fragile

I upgraded to the Apple TV 4 with the Siri remote in November 2016. While I am satisfied with Apple TV. The remote has been difficult to get used to
It is so thin and slippery and that makes it hard to hold. My hands are slightly arthritic and it was inevitable I would drop it. Considering the cost I would have expected better. Given the number of complaints it should be made of something you can grip to minimize dropping. The old remote was better built to withstand use by various users and the cost of replacement is too much. Please make the remote user friendly.

    What a revenue generator.

Horrible idea placing glass in a remote. Freaking designers at Apple need to figure out how to build something without glass. dropped it less than a foot from a tile floor and you guessed it, broken glass.

    Style over function

This remote has numerous problems. It looks pretty but at the price of good function.
-Uncomfortable in hand. It's too small and too slippery.
-(the biggest problem) Touch sensor is terribly inaccurate. If you remember how great original iPod's clickwheel was, this is a horrible disappointment. This is 80% of frustration with this device.
-Touch sensor is inadvertently activated (so changing channels) when you touch it even slightly while sitting on the sofa or just going to grab it.
-Siri only works on limited things.....not very useful.
    -No mute button.
