Great for 1 year, then self destructs. Too expensive for an average product

    • Written by Alex R from Ithaca

I loved this case for a year or so. Made my life very easy, phone always stayed charged despite using it way more than most. Suddenly I notice my phone keeps dying in the early evening most days. I figured hey, nothing Apple lasts forever that's for sure! This I could live with.

BUT IT DOESN'T STOP THERE!! One day I notice a small piece of the rubber in the upper corner had fallen off. Hmm, that's strange. A few days later, that spot has tripled in size. The next week, all of the rubber around the outside of the case starts shriveling, not covering the phone properly, and falling off. I am down to a large plastic shell that is half covered in rubber and only helps my phone's battery last an extra 1-2 hours per day.

Too expensive for an average product.

So much for that! I guess it's time I go back to MOPHIE. Oh well.

    Better than Mophie?

    • Written by Christopher C from Hendersonville

I have used both the Apple Smart Battery case and the Mophie Battery case. If wireless charging is most important for you, go with the Mophie case. If being able to plug-in Apple accessories is more important, go with they Apple’s Smart Battery case.

The Mophie case is available with wireless charging. It is equipped with a Micro USB port on the base that will pass through data. The draw backs are that the battery charge status is displayed with just 4 LED lights on the back. The power to the iPhone has to be manually turned on and off with a button on the back. They have a hard plastic shell that can be just as slippery as the iPhone’s shell, and is easy to fumble and drop.

The Apple Smart Battery case will automatically turn on and off as need. There is a Lightning Port on the base that is compatible with other Apple accessories. The other shell is silicone with a good, sure grip. When charging without a phone attached, an LED will display an orange color while charging, and switches to green when the battery is 100%. But, you will have to connect an iPhone to see the remaining battery charge. The MAJOR drawback is the lack of built in wireless charging. The apple cases will block the iPhone’s own wireless charger when a case is attached.

iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case - great, but doesn't last!

    • Written by Rick K from El Dorado Hills

I loved and raved about this case, but turns out the structural integrity is poor! After nearly a year the phone case tore on the sides making it un-useable. Too bad apple, it "was" really cool.

Case was good, but peeling now.

    • Written by Ray B from Carson City

The silicone or soft coating part of case is coming apart in chunks, it lasted about 1year with heavy use. Would like to purchase a new ' Silicone peel' but does not seem to be an option.

    Overcharging?

    • Written by Alan R from LEOMINSTER

The battery case works fine for me but over the time I have had it, my iPhone battery has been fully charged permenantly. Not a problem until my iPhone screen started to lift from the frame. I was told it was a common problem as the iPhone battery expands due to being overcharged! I have ordered a new battery replacement kit at £25 which is much better than having to buy a new iPhone.

Works okay but could be improved

    • Written by STEVEN D from VIRGINIA BEACH

It’s nice that it uses a lighting cable to charge and also to see the phone and case percentages separately. My only complaint is that it muffles the microphone too much and has to be removed for me to use speakerphone. I also think they could increase the miiliamp hours quite a bit.

    Great case overal

    • Written by Rebecca C from Furlong

I constantly use my case and it is great for everyday use. I would improve is the way it charges. It can hold it's battery longer than my phone but when it comes to charging it isn't reliable. For my phone the only way it charges is if my phone is on or if I charge it separately. If my phone is powered off my case will not charge at all, and when it's plugged in with my phone connected it takes twice as long to charge.I just got my case replaced 2 days ago because it won't charge, but even though this is my 3rd case since I've payed over $100 to get the case that has a lot of issues. I hope that these issues can be resolved soon.

    Good but frustrating

    • Written by Michael F from Park city

Battery case is great for heavy user I can almost get through an entire day with case and phone battery. Case wears super fast, mine would stop charging periodically and just got a replacement in the mail and on day 2 my new replacement is starting to not charge more than the one I sent back.

Like the integrated Apple features, DOES NOT hold up well

    • Written by Michael P from Glen Mills

Had this case for less than a year and it's basically coming apart around the top. Chunks of the silicone have worn off. The shine has faded in a lot of places. So a big drawback would be the poor construction. In addition, the case adds a lot of bulk and weight to the phone. However do like the fact that it greatly improves iPhone battery life, uses a lightning cable to charge, and displays how much the battery is charged in the notification center. Kind of a necessity for long days if you have uncertainty as to when you can charge your phone.

A heat problem with the battery case

    • Written by Greyson B

So I had this Iphone 7 Battery Case for about one week it was working great that whole week, then something went wrong with it. It would start to heat up and become very hot on one side of the case, which happens to be the left front right on top of the speaker, by this time anytime I would charge my phone with the case it would become hot, anytime I used the case it would radiate heat on that spot. Later to find out it will not keep its charge either when I have the case off my phone. I have stopped using this case since, love the case but would ask if I could get a reply if anyone else had this problem.

    Awesome...UNTIL!!

    • Written by Raj A from Bellerose

I have owned this case since October 2016. It Has worked flawlessly until the last month. The lightning connection seems to have a short and now I can't charge the case nor listen to music with the lightning headphone adapter. If I remove the phone from the case, it works great. As we all know, the case wasn't inexpensive and therefore I expect more. I am going to reach out to apple to see if they will back their product, but that remains to be seen. I am giving 3 stars because it was great while it lasted.

    One thing missing...

    • Written by Robert B from Poole

My main gripe with this case is the lack of a flip cover to protect the screen of the phone. It works well though I have to be honest and say it doesn't last as long power-wise as my previous powercase which was not an Apple product. That said, it does ensure I can go from early morning to late at night with heavy usage and not worry about the phone dying. I have gone two days with lighter usage and it's handy being able to see how much power is left in both the case and the phone itself. Is it worth £99 when you can get independent makes that are more powerful for less than £15? I'd have to say no. At half the price I'd thoroughly recommend it as it does have the renowned Apple quality but this really is overpriced, even for Apple! So, does it work? Yes. Is it good quality? Yes. Is it for people for whom the price isn't an issue? Perhaps if they don't mind not having protection for the front screen (yes, I know you can put a glass protector on but I'd still prefer something that absorbs impact of dropped or knocked). It IS a good product but I wouldn't pay this full price again.

Protects well, extra battery life, sometimes does not charge

    • Written by KEITH K from Highlands Ranch

This case is well made and protects your iPhone well. Having extra battery life on the go is a life saver. My only challenge with the case, which is why I gave rating of 3 stars, is that once a week or so, the phone does not charge overnight when you plug it in. It appears to be a challenge with the lightning connector.

Great battery life, with one major flaw

    • Written by David C from Rockville Centre

The battery life lasts 2 days with normal use which is great. Problem, Lighting cable to headphone jack will not work, Major over site from apple. If you use this case you can only use Bluetooth headphones

    Good for trips only

    • Written by Jerome S from Rehoboth Beach

I only bought this with iphone7, but because there is no wireless chargers an the bottom of the phone with out paying for expensive charging system, over time will be effected by lots use to the bottom of the phone from charging an earphone use, minus buying over priced toys every second to accommodate the phone. this not so clever even if you can afford it. This case on first day is ok just ok. I do love how it extends the life of the battery threw the day, but this is where it ends. The case can become little hard to hold an very slippery in hands . It really does not feel so good in the hands for hard heavy using. I am also not fan of not knowing how much power I am using unless I am plugging the phone in, what seems like a quick second. Also placing indicator light on the outside instead of inside . Would just seem smarter. It's heavy in the hand an in the pocket. Also can heat up the phone and hand if constantly on. This case will be great for traveling but as in everyday use. Lacks normal use ability that customers come to expect.

Good but make its hard for one handed use

    • Written by Raj B from Swadlincote

This case is nice and as you would expect works perfectly with the iPhone. Also makes the speaker work better as it redirects the sound towards you rather than the bottom. You don't have to press any button as the case just charges the phone and keeps it charged. The phone is stable when resting on a table, and you get zero rocking when using the phone while its on the table. The case offers good protection to the hole phone, the side come around and are raised just above the screen.

    The bad bits:
The case makes the phone feel twice as heave and harder to use one handed. The phone keep sliding down so I find myself having to use my little finger to rest the phone on. I bought this case as I'm a high user and have to plug in before the day it up. I bought this just so that i didn't have to plug in at all before the days up. I think I will use this case when I know I will be unable to plug the phone in rather than my everyday case that I bought it for, which means for me the £100 price tag is no longer worth it.
