    Amazed

    • Written by JP M from Gloucester

I have the iPhone 7 as a business phone and 7 Plus as my personal phone. The 6S would die twice during the day of me using it when I owned such, so I bought this case for my new phone so it could help it out. I have yet to use my phones battery. Today I took phone off charger at 8AM, and at 12AM (right now) have 60% remaining battery on my case and 100% on my phone. Utilizing moderate to heavy use throughout day. Feels incredibly well in your hand, and balanced.

I'm a convert from Mophie. This battery case is A+

    • Written by Glenn C from Longmont

When this Apple battery/case first came out, I thought, "Jony Ives must have been out of the office when this ugly product got approved." I decided to stay with my Mophie battery cases because they served me well for many years.

Then when I upgraded to the iPhone7, I reconsidered this battery case option because I was tired of juggling between Lighting connector cables and Micro-USB cables. (Mophie charge with micro-USB) Since purchasing this Apple case, I wish I hadn't been so quick to write it off so quickly. Here's why...

    1) In the online photos, the battery "hump" appears really big and obnoxious. In real life, the battery hump is actually minimal. It's not nearly as big as it seems in photos. In real life, the hump is only HALF the width of the actual phone and only minimally increases the overall width of the phone.

    2) It's not ugly at all in person. The shape of the hump is actually a value-add because of the way it nests nicely in my had.

    3) Mophie makes a nice high quality product, but their battery case is MUCH more heavy in added weight and MUCH more bulky in physical size, than this Apple battery case. The added weight and size is so minimal that I can hardly even tell that I have a battery case on at all. It feels the same as a minimalist plastic case.

    4) With a Mophie I need to charge with a micro-USB cable. With this battery case, everything uses a Lightning connector. All my micro-USB cables are retired to the bottom drawer, never needed again. A huge benefit.

    5) Mophie cases require a manual switch to transition from iPhone battery use to battery case use. With this Apple "smart" battery case, power between the phone and the case is managed automatically with no manual switching ever.

    6) With a Mophie, the power level is monitored by 4 LED lights on the back of the case, each representing 25% of capacity. With this Apple "smart" case, I can monitor the exact power level at all times, of both the phone battery and case battery via a widget on the lock-screen and/or the Notification screen.

    7) The gorgeous iPhone is slippery in my hand. But the texture of this case is both beautiful and functional in that it eliminates the slip and slide problem. It feels good and stays put in my hand while I type.

    8) The first few days I used it, it seemed to be a lint magnet. Each time I pulled it out of my pocket, it was covered in micro-lint. I was worried that it needed so kind of anti-static deionizing bath so it would stop attracting dust/lint so easily. After a few days of use, this static charge issue seems to have self corrected and now it doesn't attract static lint at all.

    9) The Mophie volume / power buttons worked fine and it didn't seem possible they could be engineers any better. Until I tried this case. The volume/power buttons are solid, and defined even better than Mophie. (The volume/power buttons are "proxy" buttons for the actual buttons on the phone. The buttons aren't just holes through which the phone buttons protrude. This case uses proxy buttons, but the feel is so good and so solid, you can't tell the difference.

    10) The speakers of course aren't "additional speakers" (of course). The speakers are "pass-through" holes that channel sound from the bottom speakers through the front of the case. There is no loss of sound quality or volume. I don't know why some reviewers have turned this into something to complain about. They seem to be people who just don't get it. Channeling sound from the bottom of the phone to the front of the phone is actually an IMPROVEMENT, not something to complain about.

    11) This phone case DOUBLES the battery life of an iPhone 7, looks great, feels great, adds protection, is less bulky and is easier to use than any other battery case I've tried. Jony Ives was right on his game when he approved this product.

    Great battery case!

    • Written by Russell H from Columbus

At first I was skeptical but I was pleasantly surprised. The case more than doubles the battery life of the iPhone 7 and does its job so well you never really have to think about it. No switches or lights, just put it on and it manages everything for you, it's different than other battery cases as it uses itself first then switches to the phone battery to save charging cycles on the phone. On a normal day I goto bed with the case just about dead but the phone still at 100%. I really like the look and feel of the case but that's just personal preference, doesn't feel as bulky as the other cases I've used. It adds a little weight to the phone but I like that and it's to be expected. Other than wireless charging and maybe changing the percentage up top to the case when it's powering the phone there isn't much I'd change.

    Good for trips only

    • Written by Jerome S from Rehoboth Beach

I only bought this with iphone7, but because there is no wireless chargers an the bottom of the phone with out paying for expensive charging system, over time will be effected by lots use to the bottom of the phone from charging an earphone use, minus buying over priced toys every second to accommodate the phone. this not so clever even if you can afford it. This case on first day is ok just ok. I do love how it extends the life of the battery threw the day, but this is where it ends. The case can become little hard to hold an very slippery in hands . It really does not feel so good in the hands for hard heavy using. I am also not fan of not knowing how much power I am using unless I am plugging the phone in, what seems like a quick second. Also placing indicator light on the outside instead of inside . Would just seem smarter. It's heavy in the hand an in the pocket. Also can heat up the phone and hand if constantly on. This case will be great for traveling but as in everyday use. Lacks normal use ability that customers come to expect.

Best battery case I've ever used (and I've used them all)

    • Written by Mason K from WASHINGTON

I've been a battery case guy since forever, I've had Mophies and just about every brand that makes them, for the 4, the 5, the 6, and now the 7. I was skeptical of this case for the price and design. But it's so much better than the Mophie and all the other cases out there. I love the soft feel and the ease of getting the phone in and out. And the lightning charging is definitely ideal. It is also not nearly as ugly as it looks in the picture! I avoided this case with my iPhone 6 and when through several other battery cases, good and bad. But this one is by far the best.

    Excellent Phone Case with POWER

    • Written by Ryan J from Newport News

Great power on the new iPhone 7 case by Apple. Have to give it a five star rating based on how it hugs the phone. It slides right in and right out and fits like a glove. Protects the phone and provides extensive talk time. I wish it weighed a little less but that's due to the battery inside and that's why we are all buying this case right... So I still have to give it a five star rating. It is not too heavy, adds the weight you would expect. I'm one that doesn't like cases due to the added weight and size, however this does hug the phone, is not oversized in any way and I had to replace my iPhone 6's screen three times due to dropping it, so this is going to be well worth the investment and well worth the extra battery life that I'll enjoy. Mophie cases are nice but they are too big and are harder to slide on and off than this case. This case by far beats any Mophie case I have ever used in the past.

Good but make its hard for one handed use

    • Written by Raj B from Swadlincote

This case is nice and as you would expect works perfectly with the iPhone. Also makes the speaker work better as it redirects the sound towards you rather than the bottom. You don't have to press any button as the case just charges the phone and keeps it charged. The phone is stable when resting on a table, and you get zero rocking when using the phone while its on the table. The case offers good protection to the hole phone, the side come around and are raised just above the screen.

    The bad bits:
The case makes the phone feel twice as heave and harder to use one handed. The phone keep sliding down so I find myself having to use my little finger to rest the phone on. I bought this case as I'm a high user and have to plug in before the day it up. I bought this just so that i didn't have to plug in at all before the days up. I think I will use this case when I know I will be unable to plug the phone in rather than my everyday case that I bought it for, which means for me the £100 price tag is no longer worth it.

Not too bulky for a battery case

    • Written by Barbara M from Carmel

I have been using this case with my iPhone7 for about a week. At first I didn't like the look of the case (with the bump on the back), but now it doesn't bother me at all, and I even think it is actually pretty sleek looking. I wish there were more choices besides white and black, but that will take time. I am noticing a GREAT increase in battery life and the phone doesn't not seem bulky at all. I used to always go for LifeProof cases because of the waterproof/dustproof properties. So glad I could use this case now with the improvements in the iPhone7.

    Mostly Great!

    • Written by Kevin B from Jersey City

I bought this and I mostly love it. I don't have to worry about charging my phone while running around at work. 3 minor issues: 1: it is made of a very smooth material and sometimes feels like it will slip put of my fingers. 2: I wish there was an on/off switch for the case. It's not essential but it would be nice to converse the backup battery if you know you will need it later. and 3 it basically doubles the weight of the phone.
Other than those 3 very minor gripes, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

BAD BAD BAD --- DO NOT BUY

    • Written by ANTHONY C from Yonkers

I purchased this case yesterday. All was fine for the first 24 hours. Last night I left it charging overnight and it was topped off. By 11:00 this morning (with very normal mild use), the case was down to about 50% power. At lunchtime, it overheated and said I couldn't use the phone (it had the temperature icon saying phone needed to cool down). As this was happening, the remaining 50% of case power magically disappeared. I took phone out of case and let it cool down, then put it back in a few minutes later. Same deal. Phone and case were burning hot and it zapped away all of my phone battery. This case DOES NOT WORK. It does not extend your battery life, it halves it by overheating. They need to look into this and issue a recall on these new cases as they are bad news.

    Terrible

    • Written by Brandon N from Overland Park

I only used the battery case for a good 4 days until the case overheated my phone and fried my battery and cell reception. NOT ONLY THAT when I stop using the case my phone would still overheat even if im not touching it.

    DONT BUY THIS CASE

Essential case for those who hate charging their phone constantly

    • Written by Joseph S from Richardson

I purchased this case along for my new iPhone 7. I previously had the Smart Battery case for the 6s and I really enjoyed the extra battery life, usually not having to charge for about 2 days at a time. After about 4 months of ownership the back of the case started showing signs of wear with sections of the silicon looking more used than others. With this new model for the 7 I think they have improved upon the original nicely. The new darker color of the case suits the 7's black color nicely, the older case seemed to have more a dark grey tone to it. Also the larger battery capacity seems to have improved the time between charges as well. I was able to get almost 3 days of battery life since I got the case. I still don't find the astetchics of the case to be particularly good looking but the ergonomics of the case with the battery bulk inset allowing for better grip makes it the best battery case I found to actually hold and use for extended periods of time. I would highly recommend this case.

First impressions are great. How will it fare over time?

    • Written by Andrew L from Santa Rosa

If anyone else is like me and puts their phone through sporadic, heavy use, this may be a great option to avoid excessive cables and having to carry a separate battery or charge cable.

I picked up the iPhone 7 today in the 256GB black model and decided to also pick up a black iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case. I definitely tried one out in-store before committing, since they are $100, after all.

Inserting the phone into the case is interesting. There is one flexible area on the entire case, about 3/4 of the way up the case if you start from the bottom. From there, you insert your phone almost entirely in line with the case and slide it down, and then the top of the case (the lip) pulls right over the top of the phone. Pretty easy but not exactly intuitive the very first time you do it. Taking it out is the reverse of the process I described. I recommend using two thumbs to slide the phone up once you've taken the lip of the case off the top of the phone.

The feel in your hand is great. The protruding speaker section at the bottom makes the balance in your hand a bit different than a standard case, and slightly defeats the purpose of getting the iPhone 7 over the 7 Plus, but I only plan on using this case on days where I know I'll be out a lot.

The inside is a velour-like feel that will prevent your phone from getting scratched from trapped debris like some purely silicone cases can do. There is also a status light on the interior of the case showing an orange LED while it charges. I don't yet know what it looks like when fully charged.

Your iPhone battery widget will tell you the respective battery levels for the two devices: your phone and the case. From what it appears, the case depletes first while it charges your phone, and then your phone battery is used once your battery case is depleted.

The speaker holes are not new speakers and microphones, but instead just holes to allow your voice and/or music to pass through to the phone's speaker and mic. I was informed by the person helping me today at the Apple Store that these are most likely not water resistant like the iPhone 7 -- and I can see why. That velour interior would be wrecked if you got it all wet!

Lastly, as you might have figured from my above description, you can charge the case independent of having the phone in it. Right now my phone is on my desk restoring apps from my iCloud backup while the case charges in my Lightning dock.

I hope everyone enjoyed this review. What are your thoughts?

    Awesome!

    • Written by Michael B from Hurst

I have had this case for a single day and am already in love. I have not yet received my iPhone 7 in the mail but this case came in yesterday. Currently I am using it on my 6 just to test it out and i am impressed. I use my phone for work and am constantly on it all day. I have not charged the case or phone in 15 hours, my phone is at 100% battery and the case is at 56%. I could go another day without charging the case and not even touch the charge in my phone until late tomorrow. High five!
