    Good Sound, but Limited Functions

    • Written by Wayne Y from Sunnyvale

I do like my AirPods a lot, as far as the sound quality and convenience. They're better than my Plantronics BackBeats that I use for exercise, and there's a good richness to the sound that you don't get from the free headphones that come with an iPhone. My AirPods pair quickly with my iPhone as soon as I put them in my ears, and I haven't had any connection issues. The range is pretty good, too; better than my BackBeats. That said, the AirPods are very limited in design and function. You can set the left earpiece to either play/stop or skip forward with a double tap. And that's about it. There's no volume up/down or skip back. I also don't like how slippery smooth the AirPods are. They can easily slip out of your fingers if you're not careful. I wonder if Apple made them that way so people lose them more easily... Overall I enjoy my AirPods and use them regularly. They should be priced more around $100, but with Apple products you pay a premium.

    Waste of money

I have been using these for less than 1 month and the left one COMPLETELY stopped working. Don’t ever waste your money on these and get a cheaper option cause it is not worth it!!

Great sound. Light. Easy to carry. The best.

    • Written by Fayaz K from North York

My right 1st generation AirPod started getting less sound and the battery was dying fast. So I bought the PowerBeats Pro because I am a gym person. Love them while working out but don't like them for casual listening or other stuff. Because they are a bit bulky. That is why I decided to buy the 2ng Gen Airpods and I am really glad I did it. The sound is perfect, very easy to carry around because of the small factor charging case and very light.

Didn't get the wireless charging case as I don't use wireless charger that much. Even with my iPhone XS Max. So better save some bucks if you don't use wireless charging that much.

So I have the Airpods for casual stuff and Powerbeats Pro for workouts. My wallet is empty but I just love their roles in different environment. I'll save up on other things. Listening to music is my priority.

    A major step backwards!

    • Written by James S from Mill valley

If you are thinking of updating to the new AirPods from the porevious version, DO NOT DO IT!

I upgraded because they were supposed to be a more seamless connection, leading to increased productivity. It’s been the precise opposite. They’re not ready for prime time. It’s as though they forgot to do the QA process before releasing.

I consistently have problems where only one earbud connects and I have to put them back in the case, sometimes even having to unpair them. The time I spend connecting has increased 10x from the gen 1 product.

I should note that I even had to return a pair and get them exchanged for new ones. The problem is happening again on the new pair. Shame on you Apple for taking money on a product that’s not ready for release.

    Very good, but...

    • Written by Bruce F from MINNEAPOLIS

Disclaimer: I am an Apple addict, and fussy about my music (classical and rock). I got these to go along with my Pioneer Rays (High end and expensive) earphones. The wires bothered me quite a bit. These sound very good, but perhaps slightly below the Rayz, (I’m still getting used to them). Some reviewers say they stay in your ears very well, even with sweating or exercising. My left one falls out very easily. Maybe it’s just something about that ear, but I worry about it hitting the floor and breaking (someone said the replacements are way too expensive). I am considering returning them, but I like the sound, and the wireless feature is really nice. As others have commented, Apple doesn’t give their stuff away, do they?

Will be choosing Bose next time

    • Written by Layla P from Little Rock

I bought the AirPods around 3 months ago and I'm already pretty regretful. I love apple products and usually have no problems whatsoever but these have really been irritating. The right AirPod has completely stopped worked and it only displays the left AirPod and case percentage when it comes up on my phone or laptop. The right AirPod went from working perfectly fine, to not at all. While both of them worked I noticed that not only did they fall out quite frequently but the sound quality wasn't the best either. I love the idea of AirPods and I think they're cool, but to be frank they are uncomfortable and a waste of time for me. They worked well the first couple months and I noticed a gradual decline in the quality of the product. They look cool and have a nice design but they are nothing exceptional and if you really want wireless earbuds I urge you to go with Bose instead, the AirPods work just as well as the earbuds that come with your phone. would not recommend .

    My favorites

    • Written by Jennifer J from Surprise

I have had a number of Bluetooth headphones over the years and these are my favorites. I have had them for about a year. I am able to wear headphones all day at work (self employed finish carpenter/painter), so long battery life is important. I keep the charging case in my truck and swap out left or right earbuds individually as the battery gets low, so I basically have unlimited listening time. After pretty much using them 10-12 hrs a day for a year, the battery life is fading slightly but not significantly. The sound quality is fine, I mostly listen to books or podcasts. I don’t mind that they are not noise cancelling, as it’s actually better for me to be able to also hear what’s going on around me. Super easy connecting to my iPhone SE and iPad mini 4, sometimes I have to refresh the connection in settings when switching devices but usually it’s seamless. The Bluetooth range is decent, I have left my phone plugged in to charge and can usually get a good 20-30’ away if there aren’t too many walls in the way. I have worn them while painting, installing roof shingles, hanging drywall, taping, mowing the lawn, working out, and trail running, and have only had them fall out when I accidentally hit them with something. (I have smallish ears) They have also survived massive amounts of dust, occasional rain, and lots of sweat. I wish the find function was better, as I recently lost the case and one earbud and have not been able to find it. However that is my fault due to carelessness, not Apple. Some kind of built in tracker in the case would be nice, so if you are very prone to misplacing small bits of technology they might not be great for you. I am leaving this review as I purchase a replacement pair, a little sad with myself for not being careful but unwilling to live without the convenience of small, wireless, and reliable earbuds. Oh, and a note on price- for someone like me who uses them all day, every day, they are actually quite reasonable. Yes there are cheaper Bluetooth options, but that usually comes at the expense of battery life, ease of charging, and durability. If I hadn’t lost them, I imagine they would have lasted at least another year, but even so, they cost me less than $0.50 a day. I spend more than that on a cup of coffee I drink in 10 minutes.

Extremely Useful & It’s design is amazing.

But there is close to 1% difference between the 1st Gen Airpods & the 2nd Gen Airpods. (standard version)

    Constant static, interference, cutting out

    • Written by David D from New York

The new airpods work fine when I'm at home but walk down any busy street in New York and there's constant static, interference, and cutting out. It sounds like trying to get a bad radio transmission. Have updated to the latest firmware (1A673) and still having the same issue. It's really frustrating and makes it impossible to enjoy the product.

Great sound at the sacrifice of talk-time, fit, and customer support.

    • Written by P R from Anytown

I purchased these AirPods with great anticipation. Regrettably, they fell short of Apple’s specifications and my expectations. While the sound reproduction is nearly as impressive as top-end quality headphones, the talk time is dismal. I have never achieved the two-hour talk as advertised in the Apple specifications. On a full charge, the battery conks out below 90 minutes to just over 95 minutes. I should have returned the AirPods within the first 30 days for a full refund but I gave the device and Apple the benefit of the doubt, relying instead on Apple’s one-year warranty.

After attempting some unsuccessful troubleshooting tecniques through Apple Care, Apple suggested returning the AirPods under warranty for a replacement. To my amazement, Apple would only ship me a new charger or a new set of AirPods, but not both. I would have to go through the return process twice in order to be supplied with a fully new product if the replacement charger didn’t solve the issue.

The fit of the AirPods is also less than adequate and they’re likely to tumble out of the ear quite effortlessly. This annoyance is easily remedied however, with the purchase of inexpensive AirPods ear hooks. I sampled three different brands before deciding on the AhaStyle model with the sound quality enhancement. They keep the AirPods secured under most conditions and are very confortable to wear.

Connection difficulties have also been an issue, especially with an Android device or a Bluetooth equipped television.

Hindsight being what it is, I probably should have waited for the second generation AirPods to appear with their increased talk-time. Thankfully, I made my AirPods purchase with my American Express credit card which provides me with an extended warranty and buyer’s assurance benefits. I’m almost afraid to ask Apple what my options are if the new charger and AirPods exchange won’t solve the unacceptable talk-time issue.

    A miss by Apple

    • Written by Deborah D from Comstock park

I was so excited to buy these $200 handy Dandy accessories, until the charging case and left ear piece fell from my purse and yes, they are gone! I was super sad to know that the serial number does not link them to my iTunes account. So anyone can find them, pair them and enjoy my left ear piece and charging case. I guess for $200 I would think that adding the serial number to my iTunes account so no one else can use them, I assumed, was a given. I feel like they could easily allow someone to register the serial number so that unless you allow another device to pair, theft or keeping a lost pair, would be useless. Now I get to buy a replacement charging case so I can at least use the right side. Super disappointed!!!!!!

    Pretty good.

    • Written by Lewis D from Orangeville

Worth the money only if you are willing to spend a fair amount. When they first came out i thought they were trash and an absolute rip off, but a couple of my mates got them and they often give me an airpod, and i thought, wow, these things are pretty good! And i went from there liking them more and more each time i use them and no, they dont fall out (if you put them in right). They to me personnaly are also are a pretty good thing too flex with!Little bit on the pricey side though. P.S. the price makes your flex better!

they're good but can be much better!

    • Written by GURSAGAR S from Dix Hills

I want to start by saying, you shouldn't call the airpods garbage just because they malfunction because you took poor care of them or because you lost them due to your own neglect and inattention. these ear phones are actually really nice and stylish. I used to be super anti-airpods when they came out but I decided to try them for studying because I was tired of having to move the wire constantly from under my books and I'm glad i gave them a chance. granted apple doesn't put the best of the best tech in their products but anything they make is sort of a super hit with the public and they try to upgrade and give us a tiny bit more with each model (sort of teasing us with its capabilities)

    review of the airpods themselves:
    - stylish and lightweight (you can literally forget you're wearing them)
    - good battery life with quick recharging and a stylish charging case,
    - quick bluetooth connectivity (3-5 seconds tops to connect to the macbook),
    - output volume at the highest setting is LOUD (obviously right! i mean to say you can turn up the volume to drown out environment noises) or you can keep them at a decent volume and be able to hear your music/shows/videos while still have an "open ear" to your surroundings,
    - super portable! come-on, can you literally take them ANYWHERE in your pocket/backpack/luggage without having to deal with tangled wires or the stress and hassle of folding elegantly to making sure the wire isn't catching/ pulling so as to prevent damage.

    - my biggest peeve about the airpods is their molding. I truly believe these can be absolute perfection if apple would just take a moment to really go over their production to make sure the molds are joined perfectly without any overhang or rough edges. I mean, it's common sense, considering what we're paying for these. the rough edges all around and on the ear piece itself tend to irritate my tragus and concha every now and then causing my ear to start burning and then i have to stop using them the rest of the day. it's such a simple fix to make all rounded edges and make sure the 2 joins are perfect. so apple please get on top of this.
    - sadly it doesn't end there as much as i wish it did. i know airpods have the double tap feature to allow a variety of functions but IT DOESN'T WORK! more metaphorically than literally because it does work (some times) but EVERY OTHER TIME I had found myself trying to use this feature to no avail and have just given up. I'm almost having to tap too aggressively to get it to work and thus i rather pause/play/skip using the phone/laptop than frustrate myself with the double tap feature.
    - the only other problem i have with the airpods is that there is sometimes a static lasting .5-1 sec which continues to come and go throughout that days use or just once and doesn't happen again. i can understand this sort of interference from $10/$20 earphones but not $160 ones!

I was very exited when I first got these, but less than two weeks the inside of the case gets really dirty and there are dents on the case when I don’t remember even dropping them. The case isn’t very durable and I really hate that it gets dirty. I don’t wanna have to clean the case every single day. Also they fall out of my ears a lot but idk if it’s just the way my ears are.

    Battery discharges too fast

    • Written by Ivo K from S. Cugat del Valles

My Airpods batteries discharge when not in the case. If I leave them with 100% charge overnight out of the case, in the morning they are at 0%. The shop replaced them but the problem persists also with the new pair. Apple service people tell me it's by design. This is supposed to be a Bluetooth V.5 device (low energy) and I find this rate of discharge rare. My other $35 non-Apple earbuds with similar functionality and under same conditions lose just 3% of their charge.
