About Astronomy Picture of the Day
Wake up each morning to a beautiful picture of space provided by NASA.

You can choose from one of two options: view a new picture each day or each time loading Dashboard! The pictures are provided from NASA’s APOD program and if you choose to view a new picture each time you load Dashboard, a photo is randomly selected from a database of nearly 4,000 images.

If you click the “D” on the bottom-left of the widget, a description of the image shown appears. This description is written by a professional astronomer at NASA and includes links to more information about various topics discussed in the description.

This widget is neither a blatant copy nor an expression of flattery through imitation. It is original. It is the universe. It is beautiful.

There was Astronomy Picture of the Day 1.0. Then, the “better” Astronomy Picture of the Day was released by another developer, which is a clear and impertinent copy of the original Astronomy Picture of the Day. Now, however, the creators of the original Astronomy Picture of the Day widget have created Astronomy Picture of the Day 2.0. And you’ll see why this, truly, could be called “The Best Astronomy Picture of the Day”.
