Obvious questions first: You are using a 7th generation nano, aren't you? As far as I'm aware, it's the only nano with Bluetooth. You have turned the Bluetooth on, haven't you? Do the headphones have a procedure for making them discoverable and if so, have you executed it? Once you have, look on the nano for devices under the Now Discoverable heading.
