So good they create a problem

Simply put, as with all quality hi-fi equipment, the quality of the source dictates the quality of the output. And I'm sorry Apple, but brilliant though Apple Music is, the limitations of the compressed files is shown up starkly by the Phantoms. Run a comparison of the same tracks on Apple Music and a cd-quality (16 bit 44KHz) streaming service on the Phantoms and the difference is tangible. So, I love the Phantoms, and I love all things Apple, but selling these speakers simply highlights a problem - and opportunity - for Apple: please just hurry up and offer a premium quality lossless version of Apple Music.

      Best value speaker

The sou When I say best value, I obviously mean that for 2k it sounds like a 20k system. Plus the fact that it's all boiled down to one relatively compact unit. The sound that comes out of this will absolutely amaze. The bass. Oh the sweet bass. It's balanced sound is perfect for all genres of music. I tried to make do with one because of the cost, but you need two. It's far and away better that way, and worth every single penny you can scrape together to buy them. You don't need to be an audiophile to appreciate. Eat ramen for a few months. Don't go out to drink with friends. Then throw parties with these babies. Your ears and friends will thank you.

Honest Review ( Phantom Gold )

Having listened to phantom gold for 3 weeks I feel like I am in a position to give a honest review on these speaker, the reason of my 3/5 is below for those not Having listened to phantom gold for 3 weeks I feel like I am in a position to give a honest review on these speaker, the reason of my 3/5 is below for those not waiting to read the full review. Looks 5/5 Sound 4/5 Value 2.5/5 Serviceability: 0/5 These speaker certainly grabs your attention with its white futuristic looks that moves away from the traditional coffin shaped speakers. It is certainly a conversation peice and will complement most living room settings. If you like to have freinds come over then this is the speaker for you! The speaker shines most in low - high mid range, the bass is tight and controlled without hurting your ears, the mid sound terrific as well and is most suited to male vocals. Throwing some harder sounds at it and I found the gold falters. Try playing Halo from Beyoncé past 50% volume and Climax by MT wolf and you will see what I mean. In stereo setting compared to proper 2.1 system the phantom looses, such as BW 705 bookshelf + dedicated BW sub. The highs are so crystal clear you will want to throw the phantom out the window. Face off against Meridian M6, phantom have slightly better high but the M6 destroy phantom with its soul shaking down ward firing subwoofer. As a single speaker, nothing comes close to the phantom! The phantom represents the worst value I have seen in a speaker, the only company that comes close to value comparison is Alienware computers, let's put it this way. There are rose gold plating on the phantom, what would that do for sound? NOTHING, its added cost for looks and not sound. I also appauld the marketing time of phantom, great job, most of the stats mean nothing, 4500 watts? My freinds 60k Focal floor standing speakers only need a 500 watt power to run it. They meant RMS watts which is a sneaky way of over buffing the stats, I could also bench 80kg... For 1 rep... Lol Buying a phantom means buying into their Eco-system, they are like macs, you cannot upgrade any parts, it's all sealed inside, so as technology advances you cannot swap out parts of your system like you could with traditional 2.1 set up hi fi. FINALLY this is biggest concern to all owners, phantoms cannot be repaired. End of story, they do not have the technology to take it apart and put it back, they offer a 2 year warranty with option to extend for 1 year only. Which means they are not confident enough to even charge customer money for a 5 year extended warranty, my cheap 1,000 dollar TV can offer that. So once it breaks out of warranty you are left with an expensive stand. SHOULD YOU BUY IT? well I guess that's up to you, I brought it and over time I learnt of its flaws, I think I can live with it, I don't have the room to put a proper sound system and I am really attracted to the looks of a phantom. If it does break I will still keep it as a fashion peice.

      Exceeded expectations

Received a Devialet Phantom Gold today, and it's absolutely blown me away. The depth of bass is incredible, there is absolutely zero distortion at full volume. Received a Devialet Phantom Gold today, and it's absolutely blown me away. The depth of bass is incredible, there is absolutely zero distortion at full volume. Works absolutely perfectly in bluetooth, wifi or airplay mode, seamlessly playing music from my iPhone. I can also airplay to it from apple TV when listening to music or watching a film. I've never heard sound like it, this is without doubt the best wireless speaker in the world, highly recommended!

      Good Sound. Terrible interface!

Its a good speaker. Great sound. The problem is the Spark Interface. It is clunky and not intuitive. Its hard to find your music. there are no columns of inform Its a good speaker. Great sound. The problem is the Spark Interface. It is clunky and not intuitive. Its hard to find your music. there are no columns of information such as album, artist, title. If you select 'Album', every track shows up individually rather than just the album name. This is unnecessary and makes it difficult to play an album with one click ( every song in the album needs to be selected individually into the play queue particularly with compilation albums). Time consuming! The spark app does not easily pick up new albums added to folders. In fact it does not recognise folders. It only recognises the information entered into the tracks properties. This is frustrating. The search function is incomplete and sometimes I cannot find my songs in Spark. I was told that I could connect to Tidal music station but in fact, I cannot. The system requires additional equipment that costs another $400. This was misleading. I now subscribe to Spotify because I cannot reliably play my own music on this system. This interface is significantly harder to use than Sonos.
