Yes. However it only supports 10/100Mbps speeds and not gigabit. The thunderbolt to RJ45(ethernet) a Yes. However it only supports 10/100Mbps speeds and not gigabit. The thunderbolt to RJ45(ethernet) adapter isn't supported by the MacBook Air.

I used it successfully on a MacBook (2015) with macOS Sierra (10.12), by attaching a USB-C to USB ad I used it successfully on a MacBook (2015) with macOS Sierra (10.12), by attaching a USB-C to USB adapter into which I connected a USB to Ethernet Adapter. Hope that helps.

Yes, you can do this in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing. You will need to figur Yes, you can do this in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing. You will need to figure out your VPN situation, though. If your VPN connection is done in your user session it may not affect your entire system's IP routing. There's probably a way to make this work by messing with your routing tables, but you might consider instead looking into a hardware VPN solution that would sit between your modem and your MacBook.
