I will be running web meetings and if my laptop shifts or I bump the cable, the network disconnects, killing my meeting. It's really frustrating to have spent $2,000, then $30 for this connector and have unreliable Internet. I don't know if the flaw is with the adapter or laptop ports, or both. Just ridiculous to have this problem. I was better off with tech in the 1990s, then I plugged in network cable and it never failed.

works fine but it's a shame you need one

The adapter works fine connected to my macbook pro with retina display, and my macbook air, in that it allows you to plug your ethernet cable into the computer. The adapter works fine connected to my macbook pro with retina display, and my macbook air, in that it allows you to plug your ethernet cable into the computer. It's a shame however that the thunderbolt plug and socket are not nearly as sturdy as ethernet, and come out far too easily, which is very frustrating. But the real issue is that the computer doesn't come with an ethernet port. I can understand in the case of the macbook air that they are all about thinness, and ethernet is fractionally thicker than thunderbolt. But a MacBook Pro should not be without ethernet. Professionals using these machines rely on ethernet all the time for transferring large amounts of data. The photography, film and music industries all use ethernet to transfer data to and from computers and servers. And carrying around a flimsy adapter that falls out of it's socket with a gentle nudge just isn't a viable option. But until Apple changes their "pro" design, I guess we're stuck with these silly, flimsy and overpriced things.

I used to have one to get an HDMI connection (before it became standard in the MacBookPro), which I used 10 times before it quit. No buying these expensive gadgets from Apple anymore.

Flimsy thunderbolt plug, stopped working after few months

The issue with pretty much all thunderbolt 1 and 2 apple connectors that I used including display cables. I think it is greatly overpriced considering this problem. On top of that it stopped working after few months. Save yourself a hustle and get a cheap USB3 to Ethernet adaptor from ebay (around £6).
