Apple 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display)

  • Overview

The 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display.

rubber on the cord rips open

I've had this macbook charger for almost 2.5 years and the rubber on the cord started ripping open in just one year. It's truly disappointing as my old magsafe I've had this macbook charger for almost 2.5 years and the rubber on the cord started ripping open in just one year. It's truly disappointing as my old magsafe charger from 2010 is still functional and hasn't ripped open. The quality of the charger declined so far where your older models are outliving the newer ones by almost 5 years is completely outrageous. I've taped up the opening with electrical tape since it's expensive to replace. Obviously these things are made to fall apart so people will have to keep buying it over and over. It's these little petty things that keeps me from wanting to support apple products other than the macbook pro.

Wish I could rate it 0 stars..

My MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display (Late 2013) came with this Magsafe 2 power adaptor. Not long after use, it started yellowing, which was no big deal. My MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display (Late 2013) came with this Magsafe 2 power adaptor. Not long after use, it started yellowing, which was no big deal. Then it started fraying at the end that connects to my MacBook, as well as throughout the cable. It is extremely unreliable, and I have to keep checking to see if it is still charging! If a replacement power adaptor cost around $30-$50, it would not be as big of a deal. But, $80! What the heck, Apple! I spend $2000 on a laptop, and then $80 for each power adaptor??

      On 3rd Charger

I am a die-hard Apple junkie, but this charger is terrible. I'm on my third year of ownership of my MacBook Pro with Retina and also on my third charger. Poor value

2.5 years for this charger. After about the first year yellowing got pretty bad on the rubber cord. At 2.5 years the rubber ripped open - as others have said 2.5 years for this charger. After about the first year yellowing got pretty bad on the rubber cord. At 2.5 years the rubber ripped open - as others have said apple has plummetted down the "aesthetic" hole and sacrificed practical engineering (stress-relief?? nonexistent) while maintaining sky-rocket prices. For the so-called value of an $80 charger, I expect it to last me 5+ years with moderate use. I had to use my applecare in order to get a replacement. Ridiculous. Practicality: 3* (since there are no safe alternatives/knock-offs) Aesthetic: arguably 'AF' Value: 2* (being generous, here)

I take very good care of it, always fold it properly (I've worked in tech - I know how to maintain cords), and rarely transport it. Regardless of how careful I am, it always yellows, flakes, and falls apart. I can extent the life by using electrical tape but each time I've inevitably had to tape the entire length of the cord shut which is a fire hazard. They make them this way to make us buy them again and again. this is likely my last apple product.

      not durable

The wiring near the magnetic tip wears out too easily and ruptures, exposing the wires beneath it. Had to use electrical tape to keep the cord together. Also, cord length should be increased by 25-50%, so that one can charge the laptop whilst being used within a comfortable distance from an outlet.
