Does the new AirPort Extreme AC router connect to the original Airport Express so I can use the AirPlay output?

I did confirm that it works great with the first generation airport express as an airplay connection.

Yes it does. I had to use my my older MB Pro with AP utility 5 to reconfigure the original Express to connect with the new Extreme. When I initially tried to configure the Express with AP utility 6, it did not even recognize it. Thankfully the original Express now connects with the new Extreme. Hopefully you still have AP utility 5.
