My son is starting college as a business major and was cautioned in getting a Macbook because it will have conflicts running accounting software.

Its very possible that some classes will require software that is not Mac compatible. But that should not entirely turn you guys off from Macs. If he seriously wants a Macbook, invest in a program like Parallels Desktop or Fusion so you can run Windows. Parallels even has a new feature where you can run Windows programs within the Mac OS. Its very slick and will work great if he only has a couple accounting programs that have compatibility issues.
