Depends on interference with walls etc, with thick 6" walls in multiple room home I get about 25-30'. With clear line of sight, no structures between the airpods and phone I get almost 150' (50yards) in our Hangar. Like all bluetooth items, structure interference is the issue. Not worse, nor better than most quality bluetooth headsets I have tried.

Yes, you have to charge the AirPods case because the only way you can charge the AirPods is by putting them on the case. The case holds multiple full charges for your AirPods, so you can charge them on the go.

AirPods can get up to 5 hours of listening time or 2 hours of talk time on a single charge. But with multiple charges in its case, AirPods get more than 24 hours of listening time, or up to 11 hours of talk time.

When your AirPods are nearby and ready to use with your Mac, you can use them to listen to music, use Siri, or handle phone calls.

If your AirPods are connected to your iPhone
If you already connected your AirPods to your iPhone, they’re ready to use with your Mac (your Mac must support Handoff and you must be signed in to iCloud using the same Apple ID).

Open the AirPods case, click the Volume control in the menu bar on your Mac, then choose AirPods.

Pair your AirPods with your Mac
If your AirPods are not connected to your iPhone, you can pair them directly with your Mac.

With your AirPods in their case, open the lid.

Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the status light flashes white.

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.

Select AirPods in the Devices list, then click Pair.

To use Siri or handle phone calls, double-tap one of the AirPods (you only have to be wearing one). For more information, go to the AirPods Support website.

No. The AirPods only charge when they’re in the case.

With airplane mode on, you can then re-enable Bluetooth (and also wifi), keeping airplane mode still active with Bluetooth.
