    12-18 months of fun

This is a great toy, however, when the battery dies, there’s no option but to ship your device all the way over to California to get it replaced, which is extremely expensive. My battery lasted 12 months... your mileage may vary.

Excellent Star Wars Toy, Great Robot

The Sphero BB8 droid is an a toy and honestly under-rated in my opinion an excellent toy and more so an excellent example of robotics made accessible to the masses by marketing.
The droid is great and is a ton of fun in patrol mode as well as drive mode. There is a ton of character to the droid and if you're buying it for the features and are aware of them then this purchase lives up to everything this droid says it offers.
Now some quick facts based on my observation:
It is fast, really fast especially on my tiled floors.
The smoother floors actually may be problematic as the Sphero may find it difficult to gain traction, but that's simply the nature of the surface and just like driving on different road surfaces you expect the "vehicle" to react differently on different surfaces.
I took the plunge, well BB8 did and he is in fact water proof just like the original Sphero, the head isn't compatible with the "skin" that you can put on Spheros in order to give them the ability to gain traction when floating in water.
Head attaches with a pretty strong magnet that is strong enough to hold BB* up by if you were to hold him up by the head.
This doesn't mean however that it won't fly off as the magnet while strong is dependant on being magnetised to a part within the ball so with enough speed and collision the displacement of the two regardless of force will mean it comes off. I will state however this is a very rare thing to happen in my month of daily usage.
And the only reason the head has come off so far has been BB* accumulating dust between the head and the body. This seems rather inevitable unless you made an effort to only use it after cleaning your floors and since BB8 is a master at getting into corners and exploring the entirety of the floor this mean you've got to be immensely thorough.

I know there's so much more to cover but the short and sharp is, it's a well built durable toy with plenty of character and especially for lovers of BB8 and Star Wars a ton of fun. Definitely a great toy for anyone who enjoys robotics and remote controlled stuff. I can't add much more too this review other than it's an extremely good investment for people who will find longevity in terms of entertainment from what this Droid has to offer

Awesome Toy and Very Well Built!

I got my BB-8 as a gift for Christmas, and it has kept up ever since. The app is easy to use and the toy is cool and well built. I have rammed my BB-8 into walls multiple times and in patrol mode it was flying everywhere. With this being said, I am happy to say my BB-8 is still in perfect condition.

BB-8 droid is a piece of garbage

Hours spent trying to connect it for my 8 yr old. Don't buy this until they iron out the kinks

This droid is amazing. Literally the best toy I have ever owned. I love how all you need is an iPhone to control this thing, and as a Star Wars fan, this is almost identical to the BB-8 droid in the movie, besides the size. I was very surprised how to head actually stayed in place when the body is rolling very fast. This is the droid you are looking for!

    The cutest Sphero

This is my first Sphero droid and I love it. I saw the BB-8 and immediately wanted it just because it's so cute, but I was on the fence about apps. I did a bunch of research comparing to the SPRK and Ollie, and was worried I'd get bored with just the BB-8 app... However, just recently other apps have started supporting the BB-8, including Sphere Lighting Lab and the Tickle app. So then it was a no brainer! It's a lot of fun!

    Don't Do It

Great idea, technology is just not there folks. Save your hard earned money for something that works. App is sluggish at best. The most entertainment we had was when the head came off and it continued to roll around without it!

Definitely disappointed and returning - Better gifts available

Even as a Star Wars fan I cannot keep this. To begin the packaging is giant and you are lead to believe what you are purchasing is far more substantial than what you find when you open the box. The tiny little toy does work (a little clunky to control) and the charging station makes for a nice desk display. However, after having in the office and playing with it for five minutes, it was quickly retired. Nobody in the office even wanted it when I offered it up. For the money I would buy many other things.

    Fun and Invincible.

I saw this thing at the Apple Store, and being a Star Wars fan decided I should buy it. I have had it for over a week now, and it's fallen of a 3 foot table numerous times, and it still works. I was driving it one time, without the head on just to be fun, a girl thought it was a ball, kicked it across a large room, the thing has no scratch, and it still works like new. I highly recommend buying this droid, I still discover new features everyday. This is the droid your looking for!
