Super easy setup, works just as you would expect!

    • Written by Michelle O from Columbus

After getting Phillips Hue lights I became obsessed with HomeKit enabled accessories. Being Christmas time, I decided to get two of these switches to plug my Christmas trees into so I wouldn't have to go downstairs or upstairs to turn them off when I'm cozy in bed. The setup could not have been easier, simply plug them in, download the app, put in the serial number of the device and done. Works great with Siri and HomeKit. Now I say "Hey Siri, turn off my Big Christmas Tree" and she does! Love this!

I bought 2 - work as expected, will be buying more

    • Written by Jonathan D from Leicester

I didn't bother with the Elgato app because I already know how much power the lamps draw from the socket. My main use for these is as internet controlled switches. These plugs integrate straight into iOS. I have an apple tv4 and remote control from outside my network works fine. Siri commands work fine, and quickly. I like the ability to be able to switch multiple sockets on and off at once. I like the simple-but-powerful timer functionality, and especially the sunset and sunrise events which act as a photo diode substitute. Bit expensive maybe, but the potential they give for automating a whole house is incredible.

Australian Model - Current Draw: Power Trips :-(

    • Written by Jon A from South Brisbane

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Eve Power in AU... So pretty pleased to see it in the Apple store yesterday - disappointed that it doesn't work as expected though. HomeKit works as expected - very well. The power control not so much.

After installing and setting up the Eve Energy with my coffee machine I noticed that whilst Siri works perfectly to turn it on and off, the power trips off almost immediately.

I then looked at the power limits of this device and found it will only handle 1840 watts. This is NOT mentioned on the packaging, but inside on a sticker.

In Australia, heaters and many coffee machines can draw up to 2400 watts. My coffee machine is 2300 watts.

I think Elgato needs to up the specs for the AU model, as it is not going to work for a lot of products sold here.

Perfect for use while on vacation

    • Written by David G from Berkeley

This product is exactly what we needed for when on vacation. For years we would just leave a bedroom light on to deter anyone who thought the house would be a target for theft with all the lights off for an extended period of time. Now we can schedule the light to come on at dark and off during the day which saves electricity and better for the environment. It was very easy to pair and one of the best features is you can manually override the schedule if need be. Will be good for Christmas tree usage as well!

5 stars for sure! I would get more, but at $50 a unit, it makes it hard to justify. Its solid though.

    A simple on/off switch

    • Written by Nigel G from HORNCHURCH

I purchased one of these and now I'm going to get another one. I am using the first as simple programmable switch to power a table lamp and replace an old unreliable electronic timer. They are quite expensive for a switch, but the convenience of being able to quickly change the on and off times make them useful.

I recommend that the first time you set up timers is to use the Eve app and not the Apple HomeKit app as I had problems with the latter and the lamp not turning off when they it was supposed to. The Eve app take a bit of getting used to, but try to learn how it works and you will be successful. The only advantage of the HomeKit app at the moment is being able to set a timer at sunset and sunrise. I would like to see this feature extended to, for example, switch on at 30 minutes prior to sunset. There is no technical reason why this could not be achievable.

    Great

    • Written by Mark H from Grays

I purchased one plug to see how well it worked. I am happily impressed. I waited to get one for a while because I wanted it to work with HomeKit and it was the first in the U.K. To do so.. For features and apples excellent approach to security.

Setup was straightforward and fast (except my Tv see below). Reliability so far is 100%. I can use the plug with Siri, or control centre to quickly automate it. As well as the Eve App and Apples Home App. Home App scenes have a sunset / rise feature not in the Eve App btw. I really like the simplicity of the Home App combined with Siri and control centre.

Only issue I encountered was with HomeKit and my Tv. In order to use HomeKit you need keychain enabled and to use two-factor authentication. When I enabled the latter on my iPad it did the same on my iPhone. But when I went to use the HomeKit app it wasn't showing my Tv as a hub. Without that you cannot automate it away from home etc. It turned out that I needed to sign out of my Tv and then sign in again, now with two-factor authentication (which was active now from turning it on with my iPad). Then it all just worked, and my Tv set itself up with the Home App. It was a bit frustrating for the two days I spent scratching my head and looking at manuals and forums Until I came across the solution for myself by trial n error.

More detailed help for trouble shooting setup issues would be great.

Other than that teething problem, I really like it and intend to get more. Great to be able to monitor power usage too as a bonus.

Elgato Eve Energy Competitive and Capable

    • Written by Andrew B from Midlothian

I purchased the Elgato Eve Energy and have been using it for about a month. The product works perfectly. It is responsive and I have not yet had a moment where something didn't seem quite correct.

Furthermore, The energy consumption monitor is superb. There are numerous other devices on the market that monitor energy and can control the power state of a fixture but this comes with the ability to really dive deep into the energy usage via the Elgato Eve application.
Elgato Eve's application is far superior to other product based applications as it is more robust and allows for much more complex automation to be created by the user.

    Great Product!

Pretty cool to see where my electricity is going!

    • Written by Sam O from Highlands Ranch

I've had the Energy for a month or so now and have been using it with my mobile devices to see how much power they use when charging and how much they use when charged up. I love it for that. I should hook it up to other appliances as well to see how much energy they are using and see if I can replace any with more efficient devices.

I also would like to hook it up with the motion sensor and get some true event triggers happening. I'm just getting started with this home automation stuff! These Elgato Eve devices make it easy to set up. I wish they had more support/use docs on their website.

Simple Setup - Works Perfectly - App could use some improvements

    • Written by John D from South Hadley

I've got 4 of these now and am very pleased. They're extremely simple to set up and use. I have access to my outlets wherever I am now. They've worked great with absolutely no issue.

The app is decent but the interface could be improved. You have to hold and keep your finger on it when using At A Glance mode otherwise it'll turn off the outlet. Not a huge issue but I have my fridge on one of these and am fearful I might accidentally turn that off.

In general, this is a great range of products.

Absolutely useless with anything drawing a larger current.

    • Written by Nick T from Toongabbie

I bought one of these to automatically switch on a heater, because ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE does ANY of the documentation list that there is a limit to how much current the product will (or, in this case, will NOT) handle. It would switch itself off after just a few seconds of being activated.

At first I thought it was the power board I was using, so I plugged it directly into an extension cord, then plugged it into the wall directly and used an extension cord off it. Then I removed the extension cord from the equation and tried plugging the heater directly into the wall through the device.

    Zero. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

Either Elgato needs to upgrade the product for use in similar situations, or they should CLEARLY mark on ALL documentation (including websites) that it has a limitation.

If I could give a zero star review, I would.

Big problem! - not worth the money

    • Written by Anonymous

    Great app! great devices!

BUT - this only works on appliances with power requirements of under 1800W. That means: No kettle, no iron, no dishwasher.
That means - you can't really use this device to monitor your energy usage (as you can't use it on the most power hungry appliances in your home.
This is buried in the fine print on this site but it should be made more explicit to users (not the app itself even has icons for kettles and dishwashers!)
So you can't for example -use it to check whether you left your iron on.

I think this is a great technology and great app - but for energy monitory it is not fit for purpose.

Device Needs 24/7 Bluetooth Connection to be Effective

    • Written by Roderick H A from Bedworth

This is nicely made. The documentation is sparse, but you just have to read a few paragraphs to connect it and then get the info from the Eve App.
It appears, after talking to Apple and Elgato technical assistance, to be very much for the Apple Homekit environment, which is rigorous, but means that it doesn't seem to have any capabilities if is it is not talking to an in-range and switched-on ios 10 device or an up-to-date Apple TV 3 or 4. If you have such an Apple TV or a spare iPad or iPhone plugged into the mains 24 hours a day then fine, otherwise it would be difficult to see how to use it other than as a remote on/off switch on your wireless network. Reading into this, there are lags associated with running the framework via remote servers, and Homekit is an evolving environment. If you already have Apple TV then this provides a good capability, with Apple taking security seriously in this expanding market for the smart home.

Defective - tuns off at random

    • Written by John F from Orwell

After using the plug for 24 hours, it is very clear that this plug has a very serious problem: It turns off all by itself at random. This happened to me 6 times in one day. I wondered if this was unique to my individual unit, but after reading the reviews on amazon I realized that other people are having exactly the same problem. I am returning it for a refund.

    Design Failure

    • Written by Andrew N from Mount Ousley

The Australian version of this device blocks the other socket in the standard Australian twin socket power outlet, so you cannot plug anything else into the second socket. This is about as stupid a design decision as it is possible to make. I have other wifi sockets (Efergy) that are designed so that you can fit two side by side in the standard twin socket. Obvious really. Same for standard Australian power boards. The spacing of the sockets means that the Eve energy blocks adjacent sockets on the power board. Many manufacturers STILL make plug-in power transformers for electrical devices that also block adjacent sockets in Oz plugs and power boards. It took quite a few years before power board manufacturers came up with widely spaced sockets on power boards, at a premium price of course. So if you want to use both wall sockets at the same tme this not the device for you.

    Really nice but too wide

    • Written by Old P from Clifton Hill

Functionality is fantastic and setup was super easy. Only gripe is the width of the unit as it prevents anything being plugged into a duel power point.
I have it setup to turn on my bathroom heater in the morning.
Would love a L and R sided versions so I don't loose two power points

    Good but unreliable

    • Written by David W from Cardiff

I have bought two of these and they are great, work very well with HomeKit. The other good thing about these is that they don’t require a hub like so many other HomeKit compatible devices.

However both have failed within a year of purchase, they both started by failing to respond to commands to switch on and off. Due to Apple not apply any warranty to this you will need to contact Elgato directly. I can say that Elgato were very helpful.

    Just works

    • Written by Niklas A from London

So much better than the Wemo. No messing around with wifi network set up and passwords. Just plug in and enter the code from the box. Not sure why they haven't added the code scan which would be even easier.

This plug also works fine in my faraway from the router kitchen, whereas the Wemo plug did not.

    Stopped working after 4 months

    • Written by Rohit W from Sunnyvale

    - The plug worked ok for 4 months, was plugged in and working fine, but one fine day suddenly stopped
    - All the documentation included with the item, and online is out of date. Kept mentioning press a button on the side to reset. There is no button on the side
    - Called customer support, very courteous and available on Sunday. They also repeated the same instructions - to press the button on the side. When I mentioned there was none, they went to the lab to get a real product to check. Found out there was no button and that the LED in front not side was also the button. Pressing that did not reset.
    - Started a case, so will probably be replaced under warranty.
    - The customer service person asked where in the world I was calling from - which is understandable - as they have different product versions in different parts of the world. However, the people working on the case started the case by asking the same question over email.
    - One star, as it has been forever since I bought something which stopped working within few months and under warranty. Not the best use of my time to follow-up on warranty. Have bought similar products from iDevices which have been working fine without needing any special attention.
