Works great with iOS 11 and new firmware update !

    • Written by Jean David M from Reston

I saw the older reviews from 2017... Up until iOS 11 it was true that the trigger of a light using the Eve Wireless Motion Sensor was taking a few more seconds and it was annoying. After iOS 11 and the latest firmware update from Elgato the response time is approx 1 second.
I have one in the bathroom that triggers a Caseta Lutron Homekit switch. Works great. Kids can get in the bathroom, lights turn on and when they forget to turn it off you can set the timer to turn it off after 5, 10, 30 min etc... We also have one in the bedroom and we setup and automation for the light to tigger only after sunset and up until 11PM.

    Excellent

Wrote this review as an update.
The previous reviews are based on older firmware and arent relevant anymore.
The device performs as expected and is quite quick to activate lights.
Sensitivity is ok, nothing like security sensors tho.
All in all happy with my purchase.

    Reacting faster

    • Written by Christopher C

Picked this up on special for Homekit.
Firmware update mentioned that it now has instant response.
Eve app looks like a different colour of Home.
Could not get trigger to work.
    Worked once, and then nothing.
Deleted the script and tried one more time via Home.
    SUCCESS.
Seems like it took a while for it to settle in.
    Enjoy, the instant response now!

I'm not great at this home automation stuff

    • Written by Sam O from Highlands Ranch

I bought the motion sensor along with a few other Elgato products but I haven't set it up to trigger anything like a light yet. Not sure where I can do so in my house. I have an Energy outlet that I could set up, but I'm tnot sure where it would be most practical, yet. It does keep track of motion trip events, so I know it will work a little, but I've seen other reviews that it's a little laggy. I need to learn more about home automation.

    Works for intended use

Currently using this as a replacement for my security alarm motion sensor. Works better than previous sensor but probably works a little too well. I mean the sensor is always on (as designed), so for home automation is perfect but for home security the notifications are too much when you're home, although i know i just have to disable notifications.

    Too slow

    • Written by Arturo P from Australia

It was configured with Apple TV to automate my hallway lightings after sunset. Setup was easy but even with its highest sensitivity settings, it was too slow to trigger my lights. It defeats the purpose using it to trigger lights as the person was already past the hallway before lights turn on. I hope firmware update could fix it, otherwise it might be useful to trigger toilet flush.

Sensor Range is not so good, nor is Bluetooth.

    • Written by Logan S from Waianae

Bought this device before it was offered on Apple.com in order to finish my entire home kit setup, attempted to use this to trigger my hue lights in the Kitchen. Since the Kitchen lights are usually synced with the living room, I decided to attempt to use this so they could turn on independently after sunset, without being on when living room lights are on. This worked 50% of the time, and the lights would sometime shut off while we were still in the Kitchen cooking. My Apple TV 4 isn't too far from where this sensor is places, but I used an app on my phone to test Eve Motion BT4.0 signal strength and it is very low around the area where my Apple TV is located. Switched to Hue Motion sensor for this task, and it does very well what this could not do.

RANGE of BlueTooth link is not adequate

    • Written by Patrick B from St. George

With the Eve and my HomeKit device (an iPad) in the same room, motion reliably triggered iOS alerts. However, when I moved the Eve to the second floor, directly above the iPad, motion alerts were very unreliable. My home is typical construction, with only wood, carpet, etc. in between the devices.

This experience points out a major flaw in the HomeKit system---there seems to be no way to explicitly test the strength/reliability of the BlueTooth link between devices, e.g. some sort of a signal-strength display and some way to measure the error rate on the link.

In general, home automation is useful only if it is bullet-proof reliable. This was my first home automation experience, and I am not impressed.

    Wish It Performed

    • Written by David F from Atherton

I really wanted to like this sensor. But it doesn't turn lights on fast enough. Not clear if this is a motion sensing issue (sensitivity is turned to high) or a network/communications lag issue. There is so much delay that you can walk past it, and be out of its range before the light will trigger on. To be clear, it does what it says it will do, it's just hampered by this annoying delay. Also, If I had to nit pick, it doesn't have an ambient light sensor, and it's also physcially bigger then it needs to be (did Elgato look at Philips motion sensor size? But that one is not HomeKit compatible). On a positive note, the app is quite powerful and capable of handling many situations to control HomeKit devices and scenes. But it is complicated to setup, and requires a steep learning curve. Sadly, it needs to go back, can't live with the delay.

    Works but so slow..

    • Written by Robert P from Botany

I got this sensor as it's the only one available via Apple Store in Australia. It has a 2 second detection lag that's very frustrating and makes the sensors use very limited if you want to use it for a lighting control. It does detect every time tho and you can control its detection settings via the Eve app
