Doesn’t work well with Apple products, iPhone and ipad

    Do not buy this product

    • Written by Poo D from Singapore

Do not waste your money on this wifi router. Multiple wifi outages a day even though the nodes are very close to each other. The app it requires you to download is very buggy and slow as well

Great telephone support, easy to use app, terrible product

    • Written by Jonathan G from LOS ANGELES

I decided on purchasing this system after using the Linksys purchasing assistant on their website which helps you find the right system for your home size and layout. It became clear after trying to set up the system that the Linksys system did nothing to extend the range of my current WiFi. NOTHING. Additionally, they advertise a quick and easy set-up within minutes, which was not the case for my system. I spent over two hours on the phone with an incredible customer support rep (one of the best tech support people I have ever had) who tried to help me make the system work for me, but we were still trying to troubleshoot the problems at the two hour mark and I felt like we could have continued for another two hours and it did not appear as if the basic problem of acceptable range would be rectified. I returned the system. If you need to cover a wide area I suggest really doing your homework before making a big investment that will not perform as advertised.

Great router, but doesn't support network devices such as NAS drives

    • Written by Jonathan R from East Molesey

I bought this router to assist a colleague who was having wifi problems with his home network - a two-node system was set up really quickly, but he immediately lost all access to his NAS drive, running via a Pi using OMV - he could browse to the device, but no content appeared. We installed a TPLink Archer instead, and instantly all problems were solved. I then tried a node on my own SOHO network, replacing a reliable but ageing AirPort Extreme. Again, set up was fast and easy, and I found I was getting faster download web access times than before. But, again, my NAS drive is completely uncontactable - *really annoyingly* it appears in the list of connected devices in the LinkSys app (another great feature), but I cannot even connect to it via the Apple Finder or it's own GUI via the IP address. All in all, a great router for gaming devices and iPads, but not good enough if you want to run a typical SOHO set up. A traditional router, like the C9 is a much better bet.

    Mesh is Meh.

    • Written by Edward S from Los Angeles

Velour "mesh" system is not the perfect replacement for ailing Apple airport. "Mesh" as a panacea does not really work reliably at all. After placing 5 units in my 4800 sq foot two story home, moving nodes countless times, rebooting, etc. They still don't stay connected. Was supposed to be great for difficult sites, it's not. My family is in a state of mutiny over this.

    Crashes all the time.

    • Written by Jim P from SAINT PETERSBURG

The Velop has the worst firmware that I've seen from Linksys. The system crashes (loses internet) a couple times a week, sometime daily. I have to reboot the system to get it running again. I will have to switch to something else -- $300 down the drain.

FYI, I am running the latest FW on all nodes and the reset my cable modem. Still fails.
What makes it worse is there are no logs that I can review.

    Epically terrible product

    • Written by Jason R from Manly

I have now spent more than 6 hours trying to make the 3 nodes try to talk to one another. I have them sitting right beside each other so that there should be no issues with wireless distance. The app constantly crashes, you need to endless hard reset the units. The setup time is epically slow as it searches for the units and installs itself. 6 hours of my life lost and am still no closer to getting this product to work. Don't fool yourself if you think this will be a quick setup. I will eventually get this working but it is a system truly full of bugs! Be warned!

Rubbish - Do Not Buy this Product

    • Written by Gary J from East Lindfield

    This product is terrible.

I spent hours trying to get this to work.

One of the 3 nodes just kept reporting as offline, even though the status LED said it was online.

Why are the status LEDs on the top of the unit - you cant see them when the device is on the shelf unless you have a ladder.

The cables go into the bottom of the unit - makes cable management really bad.

You have to be online to manage the nodes - why ?
If I'm not online, I can't see the network status or change settings.

The online help is different to the control widgets / dashboard.

You CANNOT set this up using an iOS device - or a late-model Powerbook that only has USBC ports.
You MUST use a computer WITH AN ETHERNET PORT - WHY ?

This product has not been well conceived.

I'm taking it back for a refund.

PIECE OF RUBBISH - Do Not Buy this Product

    • Written by Gary J from East Lindfield

The only good thing about this product is the box.

I just spent FIVE HOURS trying to make this work.

I’m a computer scientist with 30 years experience with networks …
here’s why I think this product is useless :-

    1. The power-packs are so wide they wont fit side-by-side on a powerboard
    2. The cable management is CRAZY
You have to bend the ethernet cables to breaking point to get them through the cable opening
so that the unit will stand up properly
    3. The status LED is on the TOP of the unit - what are they thinking ?
So you cant see it when the unit is on a cabinet or bookcase.
    4. The setup and management info displayed on the app is TOTALLY DIFFERENT to the Web interface
    5. Info displayed when using Firefox is totally different to when using Safari
    6. The controls are TOTALLY DIFFERENT to the way they are described in the Online help
    7. The online help is pretty terrible - it tells you what functions do, but not how to activate them.
For example, it describes what a factory reset does, but not how to do it.
If you use Safari - you cant do a factory reset
If you use the iOS app - you cant do a factory reset
    You have to use Firefox.
    8. The interfaces are reeeaaaly slow.
    9. Both the app and the web interface report info that is JUST WRONG.
When I use my iPad to read settings, it tells me that the iPad is offline - really ??
    10. Devices connected via WiFI are reported as being connected by LAN
    11. Parental controls only operate in 60-minute chunks
    - so I cant log my kids off at 8:30.
    12. The fonts on the iOS app are really small and difficult to read
    13. I hate all the gimmicky graphics
    14. The controls are illogically organised - not intuitive at all
    15. You can’t select Channels manually
    16. Speed is very average compared to AirPort Extreme
With extreme I get 1300 Mbps - best I can get with Velop is 500.
    17. There is no way to select modes - a/b/c/n
    18. One of the 3 nodes just keeps going offline.
Troubleshooting tells me to unplug it, then asks if the LED is red, which is is NOT,
then it tells me to unplug it again, and so on around in circles.

I’m re-installing my old single Airport instead of these 3 Velops.
It has better range, is much more useable, robust and TWICE AS FAST.

I wish I could give this product ZERO stars.
This $700 box of junk is going back to the shop.

    Total waste of money

    • Written by Paul J from Ilford

I have struggled with this garbage for 3 weeks and have now gone back to my old reliable ASUS triband router.

The velop provided worse coverage and my devices kept connecting to the slower 2.4Gz network despite being in the same room as the node and when I moved about the house it never switched to a nearby node always the one it initially connected to - hardly a mesh.

nodes kept disconnecting from the master and the loft node couldn't be persuaded to ever connect to the nearer node on the middle floor instead it kept kept connecting to the living room node 2 flights down.

How anyone gives this more then a 1 star and is happy is beyond me. The linksys forums are full of unhappy customers and mine is now back in its box.

Really bad product not even close to be sold on market

    • Written by Daniel H from Otterburn Park

This product (3 pack) is unbelievably not ready for market, it lkeep on loosing your Internet conection, keep on crashing for any reasons your need to reconfigure from scratch, the app is also useless it crash it can find the node giving you faulty messages that are not right...avoid at all cost. It will nver work when you come back home and need you Internet. If you have connected devices (cameras, door bell, light switches and more) be patient since these pods won’t find them and prevent you from accessing them once you’re not home or even when you’ll be home. Also Linksys knows about all those problems but don’t know when or if a fix will be available.

    Not even Beta Ready!

    • Written by Dan G from Hopewell

Due to recent issues in the performance of my Apple Base Station WAN, I attempted to tackle the problem at the modem and the router. Since my Apple Router was a bit old and Apple was promoting this new mesh technology, I decided to give it a try. Based on price and access to the latest tech I found this product on Amazon: Linksys Velop Tri-band Whole Home WiFi Intelligent Mesh System, 3-Pack.

Due to several recent storms it turns out that my ISP modem needed to be replaced and that seemed to improve my performance issues but since I had already ordered the new mesh system and was hoping for improved speeds throughout the home I continued implement my WAN upgrade.

Needless to say there are many issues with this product. Initially you are hooked by the UX on the iOS App that allows you to control/admin your entire WAN. You also get access to a browser portal that offers the same capability. Unfortunately, you quickly realize neither interface is conveying the same information. From status of a peer node, to incorrect information about which node a device is connected with to the restarts of the install process because the nodes and app are not in sync. Nevertheless, I enjoy emerging tech and figured these things would be fixed with updates.

Unfortunately in my very basic topology of a 5port Ethernet Switch hung off the Primary node and the other two nodes wifi connected, my devices could never stay connected. If they were connected to the primary node results would be better. Linksys support was very pleasant and helpful, I had ~4 case IDs the last two being 097508542 (level 2) and 09758542. Each time we tried another approach. I must have spent a total of 4-5 days over several weeks reinstalling different setups and discussing options with Support. We swapped which node was the primary. I also tried eliminating reserved IPs for the nodes and or various devices. It is clear that they have issues with their DCHP Server as well as possible conflicts between the Reserved DHCP Server and the default DHCP Server.

I finally reached a point where I had to get back to stability and so I reconnected my old Apple base Station. After a few days of making sure that i had no regressions, I came to terms with the fact that I should have recalled my old experiences with Linksys products and stayed away. Great support, poor quality and too expensive. Suggestion is beta test before releasing a product.

I decided to return the product.

    Parental Control not working

    • Written by Ying Kit S from Hong Kong

I bought velop via another dealer. The Parental Control is not working at all. There are already lots of complaints about it on the "Linksys" community. I should have done more research before I buy it.

    Not even close..

    • Written by ANDREW P from CAMBRIDGE

I live in a 100 yr. old Tudor that's brick & mortar. Rather than invest in more Airports, many several years old, I figured it was time to upgrade and fill those wifi voids in our home. I figured 6 Velop nodes would be the ideal upgrade to replace the 3 existing Airports. Set-up was a slow motion painful nightmare. Adding a new node that was out of direct line of sight of the prior was impossible. When configuring a new node was successful (rare event!), plugging it into to the network would cause the unit to crash and become useless. I called tech support & was bounced around eventually finding the "Velop team". They told me the Velop App was "down" and to try again later...really?! 3 full resets and reconfig's later over 2 days and I am done. No thanks & I feel like I was ripped off-

Velop doesn't support Airplay Beosound 2 and Linksys App iOS not working

    • Written by Jeffri L from Southbank

I'm using iphone X Linksys apps, I failed to get Velop working in the first place(Error message: Your device is not connected to the internet. you must be connected to the internet to log in). Using Android phone to set Velop with no problem at all.
Once all connected, I was unable to connect with Beosound 2 Airplay. So it seems Velop doesn't support airplay as of March 2018.

    • Written by R L from ST NEOTS

    Lots of buds:
    1. Parental control is not working. Even i switch on this function and set the blocking time, the devices are still online all the time.
    2. Parental control not allow for guest access. (I called the helpline of Linksys for asking how to set the parental control, the assistant just keep asking why i need to have the parental control for guest access.)
    3. U cannot add the MAC address for filtering until the devices are connected to your wifi.
    4. U only allow to set 3 devices for high priority, but it doesnt mean the devices, which set for high priority were put on the high priority speed.
    5. Many of the settings through the website are failed to use and never allow to save your own setting. U only allow to set through the App. Unfortunately, u hv to set the time access of parental control through website setting.
