Very expensive and extremely poor quality

I have had to purchase two additional chargers for my MacBook Pro because both of them simply stopped working one day. Buying a new one is expensive and these chargers don’t last long at all.

Surprised Apple allows reviews of this piece of garbage

Huge Apple fan since 1980's.... now very disappointed that Apple is CLEARLY bilking customers on these seriously flawed and FAULTY MagSafe Power adapters. Would rate it -5 stars if I could.

    very poorly made

replacement number three, Frays and burns. Very poorly made.

Offensively disgraceful price tag. Moderate quality build

I’m not expecting a tank when it comes to a power adapter but this thing is one of those stand alone items that makes Apple look bad. Moderate quality build at best and with a price that is offensively high to the consumer for something so incredibly prone to failure.

    60W MagSafe Power Adapter

I just bought my third for my laptop. They fail at an amazing rate. This is the worst product Apple produces. For a company that prides itself on design, it is unbelievable that it would continue to sell these. They are trash.

    MagNotSoSafe

Extortionately priced for extremely poor quality. My cable (purchased 2014 for £69) set fire and melted and no longer works. There are clear scorch marks on the cable and all the wires where the cable meets the power pack are singed. In the end I had to buy a new cable (now £79). The first MagSafe charger I had (issued 2009) was made well and lasted several years, without the rubber casing of the cables splitting, and eventually it just quietly stopped working. In contrast, the rubber casing of the replacement I bought in 2014 split just outside of warranty. In the end I fixed it with electrical tape - literally the only reason it was still usable. As far as I can tell, the rubber of the newer chargers is thinner than what Apple was using before. Apple should fix it, or at least charge what they're worth, no more than £20.

    Very Disappointed

similar to other reviews, this charger does not seem to last very long and frails and tears so easily which shouldn't be the case for the face that it is so expensive.
the price of the charger should reflect the quality of the charger too, which it doesn't so i am very disappointed at the fact i now have to folk out another 80 quid in order to keep my laptop charged ! ridiculous

ZERO rating - 60w power adapter - splitting

garbage product - had 2 in less than 3 months, support said sending me my second new one - never came and had to follow-up - come on Apple get with it and make product better - why a $100+ cable would start splitting and showing wires in less than a couple of months is crazy

    Disappointing.

I've had to purchase two separate mac chargers since I bought my computer. Both broke within one to two years. My first cord just stopped working for no apparent reason. The second one frayed. You would think that given the previous lawsuit Apple would have improved the quality of their chargers however that doesn't seem to be the case. It costs me just as much to buy a new charger as it does to replace the piece that keeps breaking. I've resorted to purchasing off-brand chargers which seem to last just as long as the $80 apple charger for half the price.

    Barely lasted two years...

My original Macbook charger made it 7 years, bought one of these 2 years ago and here I am back having to buy another one because the cord unraveled and stopped charging. Hate that this is the only trusted game in town to keep my mac charged.

Broke in less than a year

I was hesitant to own a Macbook because I don't think any Apple product is worth the prices they get away with charging. I ended up getting one as a birthday gift last October from my parents (who are not in any way tech savvy and think chain restaurants equate to a nice night out) after they INSISTED that I have one. They swear by purchasing only Apple, even though they can't give me a straight answer as to why. Anyways, I've been iffy on it and the charger just broke out of nowhere. The cord isn't even twisted or bent at all. It's been 7 months. Why do people pay so much for this stuff?

    Nah B

if the rubber piece that connects the actual charger piece to the battery splices, and the rubber insulator comes out, you can stick a toothpick in it and push the metal spiral into the battery and it will work...

Down side is you could start an electrical fire, but thats way cheaper than 78 bucks for a charger.

Stock price goes up quality goes down...

This product is just...bad.The whole package. Mine actually started to smoke. In the beginning there was just a little tear on the base of the cable. I noticed that it was getting way to hot at that specific point. After maybe 10 charges the tear had become a lot bigger due to the heat. And today suddenly i noticed a smell like something was burning...Yeap it was the charger,it was smoking like some 30$ chinese one. One month earlier my macbook decided not to boot, went to the tech guy no hd problems he said. The verdict? They do that some times. Not worth 1300 euros at all.

    Frays

In a year of usage it frayed at the end where it plugs into the laptop since there is no strain relief.

Worst laptop charger ever made. Extremely fragile.

I've gone through 6 of these. They will either break at the base of the brick or at the tip where it plugs to the macbook. I've tried everything from wrapping a ballpoint pen spring around the tip, wrapped the wire around the hooks on the brick. NOTHING WORKs. Poor design. Laptop PC chargers are far more sturdier. If you're going to make something this cheap, don't charge an arm and a leg to replace it. I'm glad there are aftermarket parts to these cheap chargers. Seriously, rethink your design.

Have had 2 of 3 stop working

I've had 2 of the 3 adapters I've purchased randomly stop working. My original quit a year ago and I purchased two more. One of those has now died. I compared it to the one that's working--they look exactly the same still, so I can't tell why one would work and one wouldn't.

i'm going to demand a replacement

this is probably the poorest quality charging cable i've seen in my life. i think i just bought my third(?) replacement charger, tried to move the little clip that lets you wrap the cord up for storage since it was stuck all the way at the bottom of the cable (why?), and the rubber sheathing around the charge cable burst open because it's too loose for the wiring inside. absolutely awful quality. going to my local apple store and am going to be very upset if i don't get a free replacement.

    Power Cord Poor Quality

Bought the power cord last year to replace the one that came in with the computer originally. Now, buying a new one to replace the one that I bought last year. The plastic cover and wires break and crack easily especially where you connect it to the connection.

I agree is bad design, but read this!

My adapter started acting up and would only charge in certain position until there was no more positions that would make it work!
I figured out that the little slide-on fold-on connector would rock up and down about 1/4 of and inch loosely when testing by hand and my other ipad and mac charger would not!
So i took the little adapter from my old ipad charger and replaced with the defective not working mac charger and ...... voila!!! I works!
Stupid adapter gets loose after time, thats it, not the charger itself but just the little slide-on folde-on little connector!
I hope that helps, it helped me and i'm happy that i don't have to buy another one!
