Great converter IF YOU WANT TO BUY A NEW ONE AFTER ONLY SEVERAL MONTHS!

Those converters just stop working after several months. Not much to be added here. They don't work!
Cons: stop working after a short while.
    Pros: NONE!!!
(Gave it 1 star because 0 is not an option).

    Will fail under heavy use

I'm IT support for a large office with a lot of Thunderbolt monitors that still use the old magsafe connector. These things are constantly failing, some die after a few months of use. Very disappointing.

Works Off and On, Shouldn't Even be Necessary

I purchased at 2015 MacBook Pro, alongside a brand new Apple Cinema Display. First off, I was disappointed to find that Apple hasn't even updated their Cinema Display to work natively with the new MacBook Pro MagSafe port. You'd think after spending over $1,000 on a display, and then $2,000+ on a laptop, that Apple would've had the foresight to update the adapter on the Cinema Display. As a business that prides itself on design and ease-of-use, this is just ridiculous.

Secondly, the converter doesn't work reliably. I've purchased two in the last three months. There are no moving parts, so I don't understand the converters lose contact and refuse to charge the laptop after about 30-40 days. My second one is now acting up.

The MagSafe converter is the only option to get these two devices to work properly with each other, and with that, you'd think Apple would make something that would work reliably.

    Loose connection

Have 2 of them - both looses connection and they get extremely hot. The connectors on my Macbook Pro are miscoloured, and look burned. Would expect something this simple to work better.

    Pointless!

The best reason for wanting to adapt your MagSafe 1 adapter to work with a MagSafe 2 machine would be to alleviate the incessant disconnecting that occurs when your LAPTOP is on, well, your LAP! This "adapter" succeeds in rendering the right-angle MagSafe 1 adapter's right-angle design (which prevents disconnection every time one moves) thoroughly USELESS!

Apple just make the MagSafe 2 adapter with the right-angle connector! I mean seriously, you obviously KNEW the original MagSafe design was flawed in this way so you made the right-angle version. What on earth made anyone believe that going BACK to the first generation MagSafe connector design was going to work. Oh yeah, I get it... we will introduce the "solution to the problem" for ANOTHER $80.00 after a year or so of complaints just like last time. How very "Microsoft" of you!

    Doesn't work

Allows my MBP to run without using up battery but does not charge battery until I disconnect / reconnect a few times.

They don't last UNLESS you clean them thoroughly

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has failing adapters. Yes, I did get mine to work again, but only after brushing it with stiff brush AND cleaning it with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol on both sides of the adapter. NOT something that should have to be done on a regular basis. Design FAIL.

    Poor Quality

I bought 2 adapters. Right out of the box one worked and the other didn't. I'd be willing to believe that I just got a lemon but considering the number of poor reviews, I don't think that's the case.

    Never got it to work.

I would give it zero stars if I could. I'm using an 85w magsafe purchased less than a year ago, with the adapter that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. I got a new 15" macbook pro and didn't want to lug my charger from home to work and back every day.

Found this, which looked like a perfect solution. Except it's never worked. Not even once. I've spent over an hour trying different things to get it to work, based on advice from message boards and from apple.

The real pain is that it was like 10 bucks, and I threw the packaging away when I opened it. It's not worth my time to drive back to the store and spend 30 min-1 hour of my life getting that $10 back.

I'm very irritated by this product, and by apple's shameless money-grab antics with new chargers for their laptops and phones.

Can stop working with some power supplies.

I have 4 MagSafe 1 PSs and 3 adapters. Two of the power supplies have stopped working with the adapters; the other 2 power supplies still work. The faulty supplies sorta work: the MacBook knows it has a power supply attached (the screen brightens and the menu icon shows a lightning bolt), but the cable light stays off and the battery level does not go up OR down, it maintains at its current percentage. Very odd.

Please Don't Assume The Reviewers Are Wrong - This Is A Piece Of Junk.

It's not a matter of IF, it's a matter of WHEN this will fail. This is the worst piece of hardware to ever come out of Apple. I'm a die-hard fan and this is ridiculous - these always fail after a few months of use. It's sad, but you're just going to have to shell out the cash for a Magsafe 2 power supply and junk your old Magsafe. This converter is a short term fix only. You've been warned.

    Unreliable

This adapter worked fine for the first few months I had it, but then it would just stop working after being plugged in for a while and the amber/green light on the charger would not be illuminated. Now it is very difficult to get it to connect properly when first connecting it, I have to jiggle it every which way to get it to finally connect. I'm also regularly using a compressed air cleaner to clean it and the other connections to get it to properly work. I use my Macbook on a desk so it's not like it's moving around a lot or at all where it might disconnect, I'd hate to see how this works when using it on your lap. I'd prefer not to have to purchase an $80 MagSafe 2 charger when this should do the job and work with my several MagSafe 1 chargers.

I thought I just had a duff one, but it looks like I am not alone

I've been using one of these adapters for a couple of months on my macbook pro with a suitable wattage power supply, but now find that it has become unreliable. If I borrow a colleagues then it works fine, but switching back to mine results in pot luck as to whether it will decide to charge. The laptop detects it and switches to 'Power Adapter' mode, but doesn't actually charge up. I came to purchase a replacement, but having read the other reviews I will be investing in a new power supply instead.

    Becomes faulty

Worked fine initially but started to lose connection and has now become totally unreliable. The light stays green indicating a full charge, when it's not, and it won't charge. I can only assume the little pins aren't making contact. I've tried to clean it but it's made no difference.

    Reviews are true, BUT...

I experienced the very same issues reported by many others; failing to work/charge after a few months. I tried a quick fix which was simply to first attach the adapter to my MacBook Pro Retina, THEN I would attach the cable directly to the adapter. Worked instantly with no issues. My hope is that this continues. Try it if you are struggling with yours!

    Worked for awhile....

Had a brand new spare MagSafe charger for my previous MacBook Pro so I bought a converter to have a second charger for my current MBP. I've used it with no problems for the past 3 plus years until recently. Only used it periodically over most of that time, but have used it a lot in the past 8 - 9 months, leaving one charger at work and one at home so I don't have to constantly unplug and wrap it up. The small cord frayed badly at the block on my MagSafe 2, so have been relying on the old one with the converter totally for the past 3-4 months. That is when problems started with the converter.
Have cleaned it more than once and have been at the point where I spend 5 plus minutes making sure it is charging. Nothing worse than opening up my MacBook to see less than 10% charge after "charging" all night. Last night could not get it to work and when disconnecting it, the magnetic piece stayed in the charging slot separating from the converter!!! Was able to put it back and realized that when pushed in slightly it charges... for now.
Was going to buy another converter, but after all the bad reviews not sure if spending $10 now and eventually spending $80 for a new complete MagSafe 2 is the way to go. Really don't want to lay out $80 right now!
Gave it 3 stars because of how long I've used it.

    Fails to charge

Bought this to enable me to use my old charging leads since Apple kindly changed the docking point. This worked for about a month then died for no apparent reason.

I've owned one for over a year with no problems so far

I have to admit that I was worried when I bought this due to the horrible reviews. I bought a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2015 and I have 2 older magsafe chargers from my previous MacBook Pro mid 2009.

I have now owned one single adapter for over a year now without any issues. I actually switch it between two older chargers on a regular basis. It has worked without any problems whatsoever. You learn to simply bend it along the longest edge to disconnect it easily.

Hopefully this review will keep someone else from worrying like I did, otherwise I wouldn't have waited a year to buy another one with confidence.

    just as everybody says

Few products wear out faster. Donuts and corsages rival it in durability. Will work for several days though.

    Very disappointing accessory

I purchased a MacBook Pro 13" and a Thunderbolt display in November 2014. There was no option but to use the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter (which was included in the package). While I am very pleased with the performance of the computer an the display, the connector is a thoroughly unsatisfactory and not worthy of Apple, especially because it is the only means of connecting two pieces of equipment costing more that £2000. It rarely connects immediately and more often than not I have to spend time making adjustments to the connector before the light comes on. Even then, I cannot rely on the connection being sustained; many a time, I've left my MacBook Pro on charge, only to discover several hours later that it hasn't charged. I purchased a second adaptor, but it is no better. The assistants at the Apple Store are unable to help and simply tell me that I am not the only one who has the difficulty.
