good case great battery life bad material

    • Written by Alfredo C from Columbus

i love this case but the down side to this is that the silicone is very fragile and peels of very easily Apple should've made it from different material instead of this silicone material and also the price should be lowered since the iphone 7 smart battery case been released it should be $20 or $10 dollars cheaper i mean its not like apple is losing money this case doesn't cost that much to make.

    Solid battery case.

    • Written by Andrew D from Missoula

    - Apple Smart Case means that it charges faster (if iPhone is below 90%).
    - Good Fit
    - About 80% more Battery

    - The Silicon case falls part quickly. The edges peeled within a month, and the surface was sticky.

Apple replaced this one for me and the second battery case was better for about a month. Then the same issues.

Good, but needs to be cheaper.

    • Written by John G from Staten Island

First, lets get this out of the way. You get kind of used to the hump/backpack/iBaby bump/Alien baby bump after the first, maybe, 5 minutes? It takes away bulk from the rest of the case, allows the top to flex so the case stays in one piece while removing/putting the case on, and makes it more comfortable in the hand overall. Plus when you put it on a table the battery piece is just thin enough to give your iPhone a "floating" illusion as well as make the case seem thinner than it is.

Other benefits of course include the fact this case uses a lightning port instead of micro-USB which is great. You can see the exact percentage of the case's battery life in the notification center of the phone. Some people don't like the fact that you can't turn the case on or off at will, to which I say is a frivolous complaint. Reason being is that whether you use the phone's battery or case battery, its still taking away from the same total battery life. In my opinion, not having to worry about wondering if the case is switched on or off is just one less thing to worry about period. And there are apparently extra cellular bands in the case to strengthen call reception instead of letting the case block some of that reception from the iPhone. So you do get a lot of decent unique features here that you wouldn't get on other third party cases.

That being said, this case still costs 100 big ones. For that 100 bucks, you get a case that doesn't even give you a full iPhone charge if the iPhone was being charged from 0%. Apple should've made the battery bigger around the bottom to give it that extra juice, while at the same time letting it keep the flexing top feature. The silicone material too I'm not a fan of. After a couple weeks this thing became a greasy linty mess. And I wash my hands QUITE often thank you very much. The corners start to wear away easily too from being in jeans a lot. The charcoal gray color looks really cheap and unattractive once the case gets to that condition. Also, good luck trying to use non-Earpod headphones on this case, because most won't fit the case's extended cutout for the headphone jack.

So honestly its a hit or miss type of product. Apple definitely could've done more with the overall look and design of the case, as well as give it more juice to justify that ridiculously high price tag. But at the end of the day you get a pretty decent product that will still extend your battery life enough where you never have to worry much about the phone dying, unless you're awake for days at a time.

Just bought this at Apple Store and tried use my Bose head phones and I couldn't. So I have to take off the case to use them. That is why it got only 3 stars. If you are getting this case check to make sure you can use your headphones

    Not charging any more

    • Written by Craig E from Coral Springs

I've used Mophie cases for years and was excited to purchase this case. First, it's smaller. Second, I love the rubber coating (doesn't slide around the car), doesn't have the stupid switch that the Mophie has.

My problem is the case is only a month old and it randomly takes the phone out of sleep mode. Also, it has begun NOT taking a charge.

Of course, the Apple Store's solution is to "make an appointment".

Just figured the quality of the product would be better

Work ok but better cases out there

    • Written by Jamie P from Toledo

I like how thin this case is compared to a lot of other battery phone cases and also like that you can use the lightening cable to charge it, one less cable to carry with me when I travel.

But I would recommend researching cheaper cases. Even though the cases may be a little bulkier and require a different cable, you'll get a lot more battery life out of it unless you are using the phone non stop.

Biggest thing I hate about this case is there is no on/off switch. It continually charges the phone 24/7. The other cases I've used you can turn the case off and only turn it on when the battery life is low. Sometimes I'll go a couple hours without using my phone but the case continues to charge it non-stop draining the battery in the case for when I actually need it. If I'm not using the phone until later in the day and draining the battery then I would like the case reserve to charge the battery then. If they aren't going to have an on/off switch then they need to design the case so that it won't charge the phone if the phone is 100% charged.

Another issue I have with this case that it doesn't always charge. Sometimes I have to take the phone out of the case and reinsert it to get the case to charge right.

As others have mentioned the headphones won't work in this case without an extender. I have an extender that fits this case from my previous battery case but for the price of this case the extender should be an included accessory.

I'd recommend buying the lifeproof battery case over this one. You can get it for less money than the apple case costs, you'll get a more extended battery life since it has an on/off switch as well as a headphone jack extender and it will also waterproof your phone

    Nice, but...

    • Written by Chris S from West River

Like the material, like the case shape/form (contrary to all the negative reviews online), but the one issue I have is the headphone jack. I mean, really? Apple made it so their headphones fit, but some many other accessories do not fit. Why not make it a little wider or provide an adapter for the $100 you're charging us? I love Apple products, but this is typical and gets old...

    neat but flawed

    • Written by ryan L from sandy springs

The case functionality is great. The ability to see the charge status of both battery pack and phone is a very cool feature. The pack itself is a bit cumbersome, but not terrible, and the ability to use the lightning plug to charge makes this case a great choice vs. competitors.

However, the pack is quirky. Sometimes the phone won't pull juice from the battery first. Sometimes the battery doesn't transfer juice to the phone. These are both fixed by removing and reinserting the case, but that is a pain to do.
Worse, the rubber casing degrages over time. Mine developed holes after 6 months, and 2 years in the corners are gone, exposing the hard shell underneath. Very unsightly.
Overall the best option, but Apple needs to fix the above issues.

Nice and soft (for better and worse)

    • Written by David P from Astoria

The good news: it's well-made and has a nice tactile feel thanks to its silicone layer. The "bump" is also pretty useful if you're holding this phone sideways (like a de facto handle), and it does cut down on the case's total bulk. Its extension speaker is also nice and clear. The press went off on this thing, but strangers compliment me on it more often than not1

The bad news: well, there are other cases with larger added batteries, so really heavy duty users might want to see the third-party stuff and compare. Silicone won't crack, which is nice, but it does wear off with repeated bumps. It won't look very pristine for long as a result (just like the normal official silicone cases). Worst part: for $100 Apple won't give you a 3.5 mm extension jack like Mophie et al. If you're using EarPods or wireless headsets, this is a non-issue; other wired headphone users should find an extension jack online or steer clear of anything using an L-shaped jack connector (which rules out a lot, like some older Beats units and everything from Sony).

    You Headphones May Not Fit

    • Written by Michael S from Saint Cloud

I bought this case because my iPhone 6 battery is shot and barely makes it through a day on a single charge (Apple, please do a battery recall). I used it for about an hour and decided to see if my Bose SIE2i Sport Headphones worked with it and found out the hole was too small to get a good connection (there is a small hole for the 3.5mm plug to pass through to the phones jack) . After finding that out I decided to return the case. Yes, I could of taken the case off when I wanted to use my headphones but at $99 I would expect it to work with it on.

The reason I gave it 3 stars is it failed to work with non Apple headphones and in my opinion is a bad design as far as functionality is concerned. If you are looking for an external battery that will extend the charge of your iPhone I can only assume it will work. It did charge my iphone in the short time I used the case and seemed to be flawless.

The size is a little bigger than an regular case and heavier but to me that is a small price to pay for extended battery life.

    Almost there....

    • Written by Christopher R from Sierra Vista

Apple you are so close.... Love the case but they could have made it so much better...like they could have used all of the back and made the battery even bigger, you can only really use apple headphones with the case on because of the small hole for the headphone jack, and (it could just be me but) It doesn't seem to support video adapters through the case so if you use them often like I do you have to take off the case, and I wish it came in more colors/leather, and I can stand it but I wish that the big extended chunk on the bottom of the case for the connections was smaller but... Now I know this makes the case seem bad but I actually do love the case a lot like I love how I can see on the phone the charge of the case and phone and stuff like that P.S. Apple should just be OK with making there phones a little bigger so they can put a bigger battery in the phone.....

Some good points, but beware - especially durability!

    • Written by Jonathan S from Hindhead

First off, this case now means my phone will last through the whole day, regardless of what I do with it. This is a big improvement as I no longer have to carry a charger around with me (but perhaps highlighting the issues with normal iPhone battery life).
It also helps protect the phone - I'm sure it's saved the screen from a few cracks.

There are quite a few niggles which may be more or less significant depending on how you use your phone:
    - it adds weight and bulk to the phone. No biggie for me as I have big pockets
    - the headphone socket has become unusable for all but apple healdphones. This is because it is elongated and so most 3.5mm jacks do not for.
    - the 'continuously charging' nature of the case means it will diminish the capacity of your phone battery, not least because it rarely is fully discharged now. Following about a year of use of this case, My iPhone battery capacity fell to under 50% of what was expected. Apple eventually replaced the iPhone battery when I complained.
    - the case rubber around the corners wears through, cracking and fraying. Apple again replaced the case when I complained, but adds hassle.

All in all, this case is a reluctant necessity, given I need my phone to last, but I just wish it were better than this.

    Good case but has issues

    • Written by Robert K from Las Vegas

I like the integration with iOS and the battery helped out when I was on vacation and taking many photos. Problem is now 8 months later the case is peeling and falling apart. I have had similar issues with the mophie cases so I had a feeling I'd get about a years use out of it. I just wish the case was more durable.

    Wouldn't recommend.

    • Written by Giulio S from Bolton

I bought this case because my 6S battery life wasn't that great and i feel like i always had to plug it in. I bought this case thinking there would be an on/off switch to turn the battery off when you didn't need it but there wasn't. The case got very hot at times making it uncomfortable to hold. I loved the design besides the fact i had to slide the case off every time I wanted to plug my headphones. I just ended up returning the case mostly because after a week it was driving me crazy and I just wanted my money back after spending almost $140 after tax. Over all this case was pretty good besides the small problems. Just really wish they added an on/off switch and made the head phone jack a little more accessible.

I love this product, it really does work and is a great charger phone case. The design is amazing and the battery sticks out the perfect amount. Favorite phone case ever. Later on, The material started to peel and peel. So I would suggest thus product for one use at a time if you are going out with friends and you need to keep your f=phone charged but not a full time phone case.

    Charging good- material poor quality

    • Written by Catherine H from North Attleboro

I have this in white. At first it was beautiful. I bought this case in April and by June the material along the side had started to tear off. It looks like an animal has taken bites out of it. It's rather unpleasant looking. It's disappointing that a $99 case would be having so much wear and tear after only a few months. The charging still works very well but the silicone material should be a lot more resistant at this price point. I never had issues like this with other charging cases.

I have had the mophie and spyder cases. The apple design is much better EXCEPT there is no on/off switch for the charging function. Phone would last longer if there was. Most other cases seem to have this simple but necessary feature.

Charge is great but the actual material of the case is terrible. The rubber peals and if you drop it on the floor by accident it will for sure rip. Love this case but after some wear and tear it isn't looking it's best.
