    Great!

    • Written by Christina S from Winchester

I got this for my birthday and I use it almost everyday! Having the new MacBook Pro with only USB - C adapters was a bit annoying but receiving this adapter is awesome! I use it for hours on end watching from my computer to my television screen. It is very expensive, but apple has a great policy on their items. I prefer an Apple product then off brand, worth the money in that sense.

Costs a lot, but works fine

    • Written by heather M from chicago

I've had one of these since day one with my MacBook Pro and it's worked just fine in every instance, with every imaginable daisy chain of peripherals. Need another one now, and cranky about the cost, but not worried about performance.

Handy adaptor to extend your desktop display

    • Written by Bryce R from Summer Hill

This product looks like it's been getting a bad rap when it isn't all that bad for the application. It's quite good when you understand its limitations and there is an entire support page what covers the ins and outs of the Adapter.

I use the adaptor to extend my display via HDMI to my 31" monitor, use the odd USB stick/HDD and charge my MacBook through the provided USB-C port - that's it! The only criticism I offer - which generally applies to all Apple products - is that it seems too shiny, soft and pristine to take the wear and tear that my portable usage will cause. However, this device presently covers all of my needs.

USB-C is a new ground: please do your research when choosing USB-C adapters. If this doesn't suit your needs, I would look to other providers. However, I throughly recommend this product if you want an adaptor to extend your display via HDMI and a USB port for general use.

Works well for Dell U2417H Monitor

    • Written by James E B from Memphis

I bought this adapter with trepidation given all the negative reviews. But it has worked perfectly to connect my Macbook Pro and Dell U2417H monitor. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because of the cost -ultimately $100 extra once you count the adapter and HDMI cable. Make sure you get a high quality HDMI cable as well. Many of the ones on Amazon will not work.

    TV Through The Phone

    • Written by Tameka B from Philadelphia

When I first brought it I was estatic because there was a movie I needed to watch and it was on my phone; therefore, this little do-hickey came in handy. What’s my boggle now you ask? Well its still holding ground all except the charger port. The charging portion of this device doesn’t work all the time. I have to keep unplugging and plugging it back in. Sometimes I even get a message that reads, “THIS ACCESSORY MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED!” I’m like ARgh! What are they saying this is an Apple product. I still like it and as long as it works.

    Works fine

    • Written by Evan S from EDMONTON

I've had this adapter since late December 2017. In the last month I've used it to work (via an HDMI to DVI adapter) with a 23-inch Cinema HD display and to sync my iOS devices. It is also possible access files on and play videos directly off a Kingston USB flash drive, as you normally would be able to on a Mac with a built-in USB 2 or 3 port. The adapter works as advertised, whether charging my MacBook or not. I mean, it would be nice if this adapter was included in the box or the functionality was built into the computer, but on its merit alone, there's nothing wrong with this adapter.

    Works fine. VERY Pricey.

    • Written by Mark B from Leeds

I have two of these - one for my home setup and one for travelling. Hard to review this objectively because it's an essential item if you want to connect up to a HDMI monitor and plug in a USB peripheral. I can't imagine how you'd get on with a Macbook without one. To be fair, it does work, it's hard to get excited about it since it's literally just a multi-tap. Design is fine, I can't imagine it winning any awards but whatever.
At this price it's hard to swallow, but even harder not to have, so you're a bit stuck.
Be aware that the USB-C port on it will ONLY work to charge your laptop. You can't plug in a lightning-to-USB-C cable and have it charge your phone. Bit annoying. Not a deal breaker if you're running a Macbook Pro and have a few ports, but I can imagine it being incredibly frustrating if you're on a Macbook with the single port.

    Fix for Blinking Problem

    • Written by Jay T from Nolensville

This was a 1-star until I discovered this trick: 1) Connect to a monitor 2) Apple > Sleep 3) Then hit spacebar to wake, and log in. Result) No more blinking. This accessory along with a Mac is terrible at hot-swapping, but if I wake the computer up with it already connected, it hasn't caused me problems.

Limited but ok for early 2015 MacBook

    • Written by Carol P from Oviedo

Only con is limited ports. This is fine for travel and it works well for plugging into a tv and using a peripheral like a back up drive or a flash drive all while charging at the same time. at home i have an iMac keyboard plugged into the usb port (i prefer having the MacBook on a desk riser so i don't have to look down) and then use the courtesy ports on the keyboard for my logitech wireless mouse and my printer.i use the HDMI when i feel like plugging into the tv and it works fine, no flicker. I plan on getting a monitor. i'd like to have a couple extra usb ports, one for an optical drive, one for a solid state hard drive and one for my backup drive. i don't even care about not having an ethernet port (as much). My goal is to to have a set up that gives me the best of both worlds between my old iMac and my macbook. this adapter is probably the most reliable in getting me closer to that goal but i wish there was something with more ports (and more variety) that comes in a streamlined box that sits neatly on a desktop - not a floppy dongle.

    Does the job

    • Written by Stewart L from Kanturk

I'm using this adapter with my iMac to connect to a DVI display. A little long, but I have the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter connected to an Apple HDMI to DVI Adapter and works well. The adapter even gives me an extra standard USB port for my iMac to use!
Shame the USB-C port on the adapter is only for charging portable Macs. I would have liked the option to have another USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) accessory connected to the adapter. But at least there are two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on my iMac.

    Works but bulky

    • Written by Gregory H from REDMOND

This is the only HDMI or DP adapter that I have found to actually work with the 2017 rMB. My only complaint with it is that it's rather large / bulky to carry around. Well, and the price could be better. But it's hard to argue with something that works. Note that I had to install a (firmware?) update when I first plugged in the adapter.

    it gets the job done!

    • Written by jeff L from Quebec city

I have had issues with it at first on the office monitor when I tried to use my VGA cable that has a VGA to HDMI adapter. After changing my cable for a DVI to HDMI, it worked like a charm. For my 1080p monitor back home, it works perfectly.

Also something that surprised me, I got a firmware update the day I got the dongle. Surprised because it is the first time I see a dongle being updated!

    Works great for me

    • Written by David S from Stuarts Draft

I read many of the negative reviews. Purchased the adapter at Best Buy. After connecting to 2016 MB Pro, there was an immediate driver update. Connecting to an external 23" HDMI monitor has never been an issue for me. Works for me perfectly. I use for classroom presentations without issue.

If I had any negative, it is overpriced. I would go so far as to say that Apple should provide one of these with the computer purchase since they removed all the standard HDMI and USB connections.

    Works well for me

    • Written by Mohammed Bilal A from Brampton

I know a lot of the users here have reported complaints with screen flickering and all, but thankfully I haven't experienced any of that. Been using this daily with my 13" MacBook Pro (2016, touch bar) and haven't had any issues so far. Docking one star due to the sky-high price.

    Mostly Works as Published

    • Written by Sam S from Crystal Lake

It does what it says, but has somewhat shallow limits. I can plug an HD dell monitor into my MacBook Pro while also charging the MacBook Pro and plug a usb device into my computer. The problem is, I love the style of just having one plug into my computer (ideally this adapter) but when I plug a usb hub into the adapter, I can only plug one or two items into the hub before the adapter gets overloaded. Usually that happens when I plug two power drawing devices in at the same time. Otherwise, works as stated.

    Works exactly as expected

    • Written by Paul V from BEAUMONT

I purchased a $19 Chinese knock-off adapter as I bawked at the Apple price of a AU$79 adapter. The cheap adapter displayed all the error characteristics as I have seen posted in here about the genuine Apple product - screen flickering and slowness, monitors dropping out, devices dropping out, adapter gets really hot.

I thought I would try the genuine adapter anyway as I had nothing to lose with Apple return policy, and it works perfect! Haven't had a drop off, flickering is gone, adapter doesn't get hot.

I would have given this 5 stars except for the price.

Works for me with Touchbar MBP 15"

    • Written by Judy R E from Highland Park

I think I read directions which said to connect the power cable and HDMI cable before attaching the adapter to the MBP and then turn on the MBP.
The directions may have appeared while updating the software as there are no directions on the paper that came in the box.

I have a very good HDMI cable which was left over from a cable company installation.
    My monitor is a Samsung 27" TV/monitor, T27B350.
Everything works together without any problems.
