Made for the Edition Branded Watch - Space Black

    • Written by Brandon C from Aubrey

It took a while to decide to buy the Space Black Link Bracelet based on reviews. Yes, it’s possible the band can discolor with time. But, if you take a look at the demo band at your local Apple store; it’s been battered by countless demos, and it still looks pretty awesome.

This might be my favorite Apple Watch Band, it also looks the best with the Edition Watch in my opinion. I really hope Apple brings the Ceramic Watches back in series 5.

The link bracelet is light weight, easy to adjust, and brings a classy look to the watch. Makes it look like a work of art, not just the average fitness device. I find myself setting back, relaxing, and admiring the design philosophy.

Exceptional wrist comfort with 44mm watch 4

    • Written by James K from Fort Lauderdale

I’ve been wearing Casio Oceanus watches with stainless steel link bands for many years. Decided to go with a watch 4, 44 mm, and an aftermarket SS band. I knew the watch 4 had to be a fairly tight fit on the wrist for the blood pressure and ECG functions but I didn’t realize how much importance the band design would have on wearability.

I purchased a Monowear black stainless steel band and it was uncomfortable and digging into the underside of my wrist due to the band closure/lock mechanism projection which was painful on the inside of my wrist. Not enjoyable to wear. Uggh.

Purchased the Apple bracelet for its no tool adjustability and got the very pleasant suprise that, with the bracelet closed, the closure/lock mechanism had no projection into my wrist. Perfectly smooth when closed due to the excellent design. Instantly comfortable on my wrist.

You can judge for yourself if the cosmetics are for you but, for a metal link bracelet, it has extremely easy “no tools needed” size adjustability and the smooth closed inside, with no projections, makes it the comfortable winner of all the bands I’ve ever has on any of my watches.

    Color comes off

    • Written by Klaus R from Fort Lauderdale

I'm wearing this band (was >$500) with my stainless steel watch series 3.
After about 2 month of daily wearing (office job) the black color started com come off and the grey steel color comes out.
The watch looks like new. No scratch in housing or at Glass.
The band on the other hand looks now like a $5 band.
Apple Store Employee said he is sorry, but no warranty for cosmetic.
    Not acceptable!

    Use with care

    • Written by Daniel J from Cincinnati

This band used to be the most expensive that Apple offered, and it has the looks to justify it. If kept clean and scratch free, this band is eye catching and elegant and will go with any outfit you are wearing. The stainless steel watch combined with this band is by far the nicest looking watch Apple has made thus far, though if you plan on wearing this while working out or doing lots of physical work I cannot recommend it. It scratches very easily and will wear out over time. I have been through 2 bands in 3 years, though they have each been used heavily and I believe I got my money's worth.

    Indestructible finish

    • Written by Melvin G from Forest Hills

I don’t understand why some have said that the finish wore off. I’ve had mine for two years, and wear it in my shop. I grind hard metals, among other things, and it gets knocked around, as does the watch. Neither has the slightest scratch, or abrasion. I can’t imagine what these guys must have been doing to wear this finish out.

It fits well, and looks great. My favorite band.

    Extremely high quality and finish

    • Written by Ray V from Surrey

Extremely high quality and finish. Have had mine since 2015 and have had no issues. I did notice some wear on some corners of the links which is to be expected. I replaced those links with the extra's I had in my box and have since not seen any additional wear. So long as you are mindful of what the watch is in contact with you should have no issues with the finish coming off.

    Nearly Impervious to Scratches

    • Written by Mark F from Souix Falls

8 months of wear, nearly 24/7 (recharge most nights...on a metal stand!) swimming, showers, hunting, laying cement, I never take it off. The most dangerous exposure it gets to potential scratches is when I'm typing on my Apple keyboards. But I can barely see but one minor scratch which I think came when it scraped with great force a corner of a particularly hard brick. I was amazed when I couldn't immediately see any scratch on the clasp.

I don't think I could get any type of scratch to show up in a well-lighted picture taken with my X. The watch and band look new.

You can get a PVD coated watch from Audemars Piguet but you'll have to wait 9 to 18 months as the waiting list is very long...also it costs about $90,000.00

The Apple Watch scratch resistance is excellent...much better than any of my 3 Rolexes and of course, much better than my stainless steel Blancpain and Patek Phillipe watches all of which needed to be refinished regularly.

    Do not get black finish

    • Written by Gene N from Austin

Like many others, my problem is that the black finish has started wearing off on the clasp because that is the part that touches the MBP handrest as well as my desk when on the desktop. I am not sure they could do anything better since the finish is rubbing between stainless on the band and aluminum on the computer. Most finishes would wear off... but it does make an amazing band look rather cheap when you can see silver streaks.

If you get the silver, you probably won't have any problems. The mechanical quality is great! Just don't assume that the black finish will last on any areas where the watch touches anything for extended periods of time.

    Quality & Class

    • Written by KELLY I from Gravette

I'm surprised at the negative reviews on finish corruption. I'm a nurseryman and have put the Series 2 watch and Space Black Link Bracelet to work for two years now without any negative experiences concerning finish; even scratches have not occurred. I do sometimes have issues with the clasp staying fully affixed, but I suspect it's the dust accumulated working in the nursery. So, a more solid state clasp would have been ideal.

42 mm Space Black band totally overpriced and not fit for purpose product

    • Written by John Q from Huddersfield

Despite deciding to buy this strap at a premium price I now find it is not premium quality. The black coating has worn from all the sharp corners.
When I returned it to an Apple store they agreed that it should not wear but said it was a cosmetic issue and not covered under warranty.
Apple support then contacted me and when I sent them a photo said the same. This is the sort of response I may have accepted if it had been a cheap band .
I find it totally unacceptable that Apple should charge such a high price for such poor quality and find that I am not the only person who has complained.
What can I do to restore my faith in Apple supplying quality products??

    Poor Quality Finish

    • Written by Martin H from Tuxedo park

The band has beautiful construction. It feels great on your wrist. However, I am really disappointed that for $550 the finish rubs off so easily. I work in an office and don’t treat it rough but the band has several spots where the black is rubbing off. Overall, I’m disappointed with the product and I don’t recommend it.

    Best Watch Band EVER!!

    • Written by Christopher S from Leland

Looking at all the negative reviews on here about the finish rubbing off I had to write something. Now maybe Apple is having problems making the bands these days and that's why the finish is having problems in which case I would agree with all of you. I was worried I would have this problem with the space black watch and link bracelet, but so far I've not had a single finish issue what so ever with either.

I got mine with the original watch on release day three or so years ago. I forgot when it was released.. And I have worn it EVERY SINGLE DAY since from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. And I've moved it to each new watch as Apple has released them.

MY band still looks _BRAND NEW_. No finish wearing off anywhere. There aren't even any scratches on it that I can see. It really looks like I just pulled it out of the box. I wish my Rolex band held up as well as this band has. It's all scratched up, but to be fair I wore it every day for over 14 years until the Apple watch. So I'm not there yet with this band obviously. But I like this band much more than the one with my Rolex. It's more comfortable. And honestly I feel it's beed made than the Rolex band.

So if you get one and the finish has any problems what so ever you should have Apple replace it because it should look great for a long, long time.

I absolutely love the link bracelet but like many reviews the finish is terrible! Mine has been coming off and you end up with black staining on your wrist as well as a band that looks poorly made. What is the most disappointing is that you pay such a high price for this poorly finished product.

Not worth the price AT ALL

    • Written by Scott L from Los Angeles

It's comfortable. And well made... to a degree. But, the finish scuffed quite easily and almost immediately after I started wearing it. For as much as I paid for this band, I would have expected much better. I had a milanese loop on my series 2 watch and the cost to quality ratio was MUCH MUCH MUCH higher. I usually feel always feel like Apple tends to match quality to price pretty well, and have felt confident with pretty much every purchase I've made from them. But with this band, I definitely feel like for the first time I've gotten ripped off. I still love the series 3 watch and am glad I upgraded! I'm just severely disappointed in the link band quality for the obnoxious price. I would recommend to anyone thinking of buying it to not waste your money. The milanese loop is easily a much better buy if you're looking for a higher quality band.

42mm Space Black Link Bracelet coating

    • Written by Roy H from Las Vegas

I am purchasing the silver one due to the finish rubbing off on the black one I already have. Apple did replace the black one once due to the poor finish quality. The replacement has the finish wearing off as well. This is a Quality Band, they just need to fix the finish issue.

    Gorgeous band!!

    • Written by Steven F from Kitchener

I've now had the link bracelet over two years (bought the space black watch with link bracelet at launch). Wore it every day for the first six months, but I'm up to a dozen bands now, so I swap them out a fair bit. I now reserve the link band for events I want to class up the watch.
My "daily drivers" are Apple sport bands or nylon bands from Clockwork Synergy.

Those complaining of the coating on the watch - you can tell by looking at it, that the coating isn't as thick as that on the watch body (so you certainly wouldn't expect it to be as durable). I have no doubt that it's using the same PVD process to apply the coating, but, no, it isn't going to be as durable as the watch body.

It stands up fine to regular use. I think those that managed to wear theirs have exposed the band to repetitive wear against abrasive surfaces (or garments). Most people (obviously) won't have an issue - millions of these purchased, only a handful of complaints here.

Looking forward to using this band with a Series 3 and beyond!!! :)

    Great bracelet, LOUSY finish

    • Written by James W

This finish is NOT Diamond Like Carbon (DLC). The bracelet looks great when new, however, within a week or so, the finish starts to rub off. This happens just from wearing it at the office. It runs off where your bracelet rubs against your desk and keyboard. I complained to Apple and they replaced it. I immediately sold this bracelet and the watch and bought a stainless steel watch. I will be ordering the stainless bracelet because the construct is great. I like the clasp and the ability to adjust the links. However, stick with the all stainless version, Do NOT waste your money on the black bracelet. You will be sorry.

Great attention to detail and like any coated metal it will show wear!

    • Written by Jaffrey A from Falls Church

Based on several reviews, let me start by saying if you're concerned about wear and scratches then avoid coated/painted metal. Go with the plain stainless steel one. However, the space black link bracelet is in a class of its own not just compared to other smartwatch or Apple bands but any band for any watch. Period. So what set this bracelet apart?

    1. The clasp fits flush with the rest of the band. Based on my experience that is a unique design feature.

    2. Being able to adjust the links by just pressing the buttons on the back and each link just sliding in and clicking into place is innovative and makes it easy to create a comfortable fit all the time.

    3. The build quality is exceptional. Perfect spacing and smooth edges with a solid feel. The bad itself is perfectly balanced.

    4. The band has a slightly matte finish to it and looks great with the black stainless steel watch which has a more shiny finish. To me, this combination is currently the best-looking smartwatch you can buy today. Metal on metal edges out metal on ceramic.

If you're looking for a more dressy version of an Apple Watch get this band. A stainless steel Apple Watch with the link bracelet holds its own from a design perspective against any mainstream luxury watch. Just be aware that metal and sapphire crystal can scratch and coated metal can wear and get grazed. So start witht he right expectations.

The only Apple product I have ever been disapointed with.

    • Written by Dale R from Ballwin

Band finish started wearing off within the first week of wearing the watch. Apple Store replaced band as a one time goodwill. Same thing with new band. No abuse, just from normal work activity, computer work. This band was advertised as having an indestructible finish. Don't waste you money.
