    7 Smart Battery case Black

    • Written by David B from Cedar Rapids

I have to say, I like the extended battery life and the glove like shape and feel the case provides my phone and its shape provides a bit more security when holding phone.

The downside maybe related to the color or the rubber like material that covers the battery... with less than a years worth of ownership the rubber around the upper right corner failed, exposing the thin plastic frame it covers. This is a very obvious design flaw since there is no support of the rubber other than the phone its design to protect.

The case also reduces the sound quality / loudness of the phone.

Also, I've noticed a year into ownership that the case gets a slimy film when used outdoors. Before someone says it's just sweat from my hand, I can set the phone down and an hour later it still feels slimy. Water on a cloth will take the edge off but that's only safe way of temporarily removing the film.

While I like the Apple design / shape, the case portion for the price did not hold up well. I would not recommend.

Over hitting to my phone .

    • Written by Naymul I from West Bengal

First time it’s been 4/5 hours extra backup but after few months later it’s not backup well enough.
And it’s over hitting my phone too.

    do NOT buy this junk

    • Written by Patrick F from Washington

It's junk. The plastic case peels away and makes it so annoying to use and really, really ugly. I ended up not using it. I was told at the store that it's "wear and tear."

Peels away and then gets floppy - Apple knows it’s an issue

    • Written by Stephen M from Buford

Unfortunately it falls apart at the top part of the case. The weak area.

Apple then blames you for using the phone. The case will peel away and lose all the rubber and then get floppy

It’s a bummer because I liked the design. I’m careful and particular with my stuff. It’s too expensive for it to fall apart in 6 months to a year and for them to turn their back to you and offer you the case for 20% off. Like I really want to pay for it to fall apart again.

    Silicone Falls Off

    • Written by Kristin C from Livonia

You’ve heard the exact same thing in every review, the battery charging is fantastic and keeps my phone charged for 3-4 times as long as without it, but about 6 months after having the case some of the silicone started chipping off. It’s now been 8 months and there are large portions of silicone that have fallen off the case. It’s not fallen apart yet but I would guess it will only last a month or two more until it has completely fallen apart. Fantastic case if you only plan on using it for half a year or so.

Do not buy peels way too easily

    • Written by john M from Nashville

I've had to buy about 3 of these cases now. All have done the exact same thing. After about 6-8 months they peel to the point where they don't even stay on the iphone. The extra charge is great and the only reason I kept re-buying the case. The quality is terrible and only lasts 6-8 months. Don't invest the $100

Great for 1 year, then self destructs. Too expensive for an average product

    • Written by Alex R from Ithaca

I loved this case for a year or so. Made my life very easy, phone always stayed charged despite using it way more than most. Suddenly I notice my phone keeps dying in the early evening most days. I figured hey, nothing Apple lasts forever that's for sure! This I could live with.

BUT IT DOESN'T STOP THERE!! One day I notice a small piece of the rubber in the upper corner had fallen off. Hmm, that's strange. A few days later, that spot has tripled in size. The next week, all of the rubber around the outside of the case starts shriveling, not covering the phone properly, and falling off. I am down to a large plastic shell that is half covered in rubber and only helps my phone's battery last an extra 1-2 hours per day.

Too expensive for an average product.

So much for that! I guess it's time I go back to MOPHIE. Oh well.

    Not so great or safe

    • Written by Scott R from Colorado Springs

Seemed appropriate to go with Apple's choice for a battery case that would boost power as well as protect the phone.

    The power drains quite fast.

The case has been disintegrating bits of rubber at a time, which is both shoddy and not to our perceived 'Apple standard'.

Further, those rubber bits that keep coming off are a health hazard - make sure your youngest children aren't able to access your phone if you have the 7 with battery case combo.

    Ware and Tear

    • Written by Andrew R from Marblehead

The battery is great but the case falls apart like a piece of coffee cake. Also, the ease of plugging it into an iPhone charger is extremely convenient though overall still not impressed for what its worth.

much lower quality then the original iPhone 6S Smart battery case.

    • Written by George S from Winnipeg

After purchasing the iPhone 6S Smart battery case, and being very happy with it, I did not hesitate to buy this case for the iPhone 7. I had passed on my iPhone 6S and its smart battery case and it is still in use and has been in use for over 2 years with no issues.

Unfortunately this was not the case with the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case. Soon after the 1 year warranty expired the silicone started to peel from the sides and corners of the device. I was able to get a bit more life out of it by glueing the silicone back in place. Eventually that failed and the silicone started coming off in large pieces and the case became unusable. Given the high price of the Apple Smart Battery Cases and Apples environmental commitment that says "...You count on your device day after day. So it’s designed to withstand years of use and be ready for more. It’s made of durable materials..." it's really unacceptable and disappointing that there was such a reduction in quality between the 2 version of the case.

Terrible quality - amazed Apple put their name to it

    • Written by Jonathan R from Southampton

This case is just rubbish. The cover peels off, leaving a slippery finish. For the cost, Apple should be really ashamed of the quality - the other reviews give a very clear picture of the lack of quality.

    Bad design

    • Written by laurie P from moore

The case doesn’t come with a power button so the entire time your phone is in the case the case will never let your phone get below 100%. So even if you’re not using the phone the normal drain of the battery will drain the life of the case and will need to be charged long before the other charging cases would. Miss my lifeproof charging case which they discontinued

    The silicone peeled

    • Written by Hans J from Gig Harbor

The silicone wore through, peeled, and fell off. The extra battery life is great, but the actual case is garbage.

Not a bad case, but it’s not built to last

    • Written by Sten O from Frederick

The silicone outer cover cracks and eventually comes off. The battery itself failed on the first case, but it was replaced. Now the covering failed again after about 3-4 months

    So bummed.

    • Written by Melanie K from Boulder

The charging is great, no complaints there. But as everyone else said, the case literally falls apart. I use my phone for work, virtually NEVER put it in my pockets, and it was worn completely through. I don't even understand how. So I took it back to the Apple Store while still under warranty and they said because the case had lost a piece by the buttons it wasn't replaceable under warranty. Like a fool I bought another one, despite the truly awful case and the horrible design (ugliest phone case I've ever owned). Why you ask? Because the ease of charging with my apple charging cords. But after spending another $100 the second case is wearing out after a few months. Honestly, this makes me so bad I'm thinking about switching to Samsung for the Galaxy. My husband loves his and I'm not willing to spring for the iPhone X anyway. Apple is right on the edge of losing my support. If you pay a premium you better get premium quality.

    Silicon peeling off

    • Written by Stephen M from Albuquerque

I take great care of my phone and case and the silicon is already peeling off. I can only attribute this to putting it in and taking it out of my pocket which is a guys only option. The extra battery life is awesome but the case already looks horrible and is cheap. Very disappointed. I really like the case--just wish it lasted longer. Not sure I want to buy another and have the same thing happen.

    Don’t buy it!!

    • Written by Falko B from Crawley

Had to replace the case 2 times now! It works perfect for 5-6 months but stops working after that. Costumer service is great though, I’ve been given a new every time I brought the broken one back. But over all not worth the money and a pain to go back to the store for a new one every 6 months...

    Not Apple quality. Too $$$$$

    • Written by Patrick H from bristol

I bought this and was very satisfied with the feel and practicality. However it has failed in less than two years use (not even medium to heavy use).
Apple is expensive, one accepts that for the perceived quality and we receive. This piece of tech and its performance is something you would expect from a Chinese copy or rip off product (no disrespect to the quality Chinese manufacturers).
There are other products out there for a third of the price and I will be trying one of those.

    Better than Mophie?

    • Written by Christopher C from Hendersonville

I have used both the Apple Smart Battery case and the Mophie Battery case. If wireless charging is most important for you, go with the Mophie case. If being able to plug-in Apple accessories is more important, go with they Apple’s Smart Battery case.

The Mophie case is available with wireless charging. It is equipped with a Micro USB port on the base that will pass through data. The draw backs are that the battery charge status is displayed with just 4 LED lights on the back. The power to the iPhone has to be manually turned on and off with a button on the back. They have a hard plastic shell that can be just as slippery as the iPhone’s shell, and is easy to fumble and drop.

The Apple Smart Battery case will automatically turn on and off as need. There is a Lightning Port on the base that is compatible with other Apple accessories. The other shell is silicone with a good, sure grip. When charging without a phone attached, an LED will display an orange color while charging, and switches to green when the battery is 100%. But, you will have to connect an iPhone to see the remaining battery charge. The MAJOR drawback is the lack of built in wireless charging. The apple cases will block the iPhone’s own wireless charger when a case is attached.

    Pockets Beware!

    • Written by Ryan D from Telford

After normal wear and tear the soft silicone has all come off on this case, leaving just the hard plastic. It's disappointing that a case that costs this much can barely last a year. If Apple is going to design a case it should easily last 2 years of normal wear.
