    Wasted Money

    • Written by Carissa B from Harlem

This keyboard worked well at first, but after only 16 months of gentle use it stopped working. I will not be spending another $159 on a product that is just going to die on me again, after a short time of use. I may as well just take that money and burn it. This keyboard is not at all worth it.

    Terrible product.

    • Written by Edward N from Chicago

Smart Keyboard worked extremely well when I first got it and completely stopped working in the subsequent months. Got in contact with Apple support and was better off not even wasting my time. Save your money and get a different brand keyboard.

Jony Ive should be ashamed of this design

    • Written by Wayne L from Darien

It's mystifying why this failure-prone product has remained on the market for so long. Seriously, Apple, given your sterling overall quality reputation, why aren't you ashamed of this dud? My wife and I have had two 10.5-in. keyboards fail, one just after the one-year warranty and the second recently at a year and 10 months. Fool me once, Apple, shame on you. I got conned into replacing the first at an Apple Store for another $159, but - this second time there'll be no shame on me - I won't be fooled twice. I've found a keyboard for $55. With a year of life expectancy, I can live with that. This keyboard isn't worth any more.

    Poorly built product

    • Written by Ginger L from Nashville

I take excellent care of all phone and computer devices, but this keyboard has failed to live up to its promise... It worked well for a while, but now that I’m out of warrantee, it fails to be recognized by my iPad Pro 2 or 3 times/day. A hard restart will usually get it going again, but this is time consuming and frustrating. After reading this very long list of complaints about the same issue, I’m extremely annoyed and disappointed with Apple for failing to back an over priced, poor quality product. I’ve been an Apple user for years, but am getting pushed in the other direction by high prices and quality issues.

Had 2 and both only lasted a few months

    • Written by Thomas J from Florence

There must be a design flaw. My original quit working, then my warranty replacement quit working. Like others, i get the "accessory not supported" message. My expensive case was designed to be used with this keyboard, so to go 3rd party, I'll not only have to get a new keyboard, but also a new case.

Great when it works, but gone too soon

    • Written by Merlin C from Singapore

Works as expected when newly bought, but started to have intermittent connection issues after the warranty period of 1 year is over. 2 years old and it is totally not working, such a shame. Brought it to the Genius Bar to no avail. Apple has terrible keyboards nowadays (hint Macbooks). Stay away unless you plan on fixing/replacing your iPad keyboard in the future!

Had mine for less than 2 years and it no longer working... not the level of quality you associate with apple and their prices. Unhappy smiley :(

    Stopped working

    • Written by Sandy S from Baltimore

When I disconnect and reconnect, sometimes it works, then a minute later I have to do it again. This has been going on for 9 months, I was too disorganized to take it back to Apple, now the warranty has expired and I can't bring it back. It doesn't work anymore, no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect

As per the others. Great for 18 months

It would appear that I also have fallen foul of the shoddy keyboard. It has been great since Jan 18 when I brought it. however it now doesn't work at all.

Died after 18 months - warranty expired

    • Written by Angelo G from Singapore

Keyboard was good while it lasted but stopped working after 18 months.

I brought the keyboard to the Apple store to take a look and they couldn't help me.except to offer a replacement for $200. No thanks.

My iPad pro was my primary device for work but has now become useless. The keyboard has always been treated well and still looks brand new. Very disappointed.

    Does not last

    • Written by Jason L from Dearborn Heights

As with my people here my keyboard lived a short life. I’ve had it for about 18 months and it works maybe 1-2% of the time. I was not rough on the device. I kept it in a nice sleeve in my backpack when I was not using it. There are no real signs of wear on the keyboard, or at the connection point. I do not think there is a short or damaged connection because no amount of manipulating the ribbon connector has any impact on when the keyboard works.

Apple would not replace the keyboard as it only has a 1 year warranty. Purchasing the extended AppleCare for the iPad does not add any coverage for the keyboard. I am highly disappointed.

Smart Keyboard Poor Warranty -Stand Behind

    • Written by Daniel M from san diego

Really 2-1/2 Stars as when it works it is fantastic. Had the Ipad Pro Smart Keyboard fail just over one year on the previous 2017 version and now the exact same thing on the 2018 version 1yr 3mo-old Ipad Pro Keyboard today. Very disappointing as it is one of the most expensive on the market and always try and be brand specific. Both instances had low to medium use, no abuse/drop/damage to have failed a few months after the 1yr so called warranty. Today a $24 discount was provided for me to purchase a new one at the Apple Store which was more disappointing. Last year no discount so I suppose this is the corporate answer (although could have obtained cheaper elsewhere). I would like to upgrade my 13 month old Ipad but will be looking at the other mfr options. Fool me once and then twice...

    Don't Buy

    • Written by Samuel K from Vancouver

It will stop working after few months of use. You might get it replaced under warranty but it will break again.
Get the Logitech one for 100% works.

    It’s okay.

    • Written by Ethan H from West Hills

I bought this product because I had recently broken my MacBook. I was so excited because I had never owned a Smart Keyboard before. It was great for the first month. After a couple months, it started to fall off very easily. For example, I would run down the stairs and it would fall off. For the price, I expected more. Also, sometimes It would randomly fall off. Also, when I stand it up, sometimes it falls. It is very hard to stand it up on a bed. For $160, I expected more.

    Broke after 2 years

    • Written by Skylar J from Springfield

Worked great for 2 years and then hit failure. Apple needs to address this. If I wanted cheap I would have purchased a knock off. I buy apple because of the quality.... or at least i used to.

    Flawed Product

    • Written by sharlet W from Notre Dame

I’ve had this keyboard for a year-and-a-half. It’s had very light use. The keyboard only works intermittently. I’ll be typing, and suddenly it will lock. Only way to get it to work is to power down and back up again. Extremely frustrating and time consuming! This is a known issue, but Apple won’t do anything about it. They’ve done an extended warranty due to this issue on the 12.5 and 9.7, but nothing for the 10.5. A lot of money to pay for a product that’s basically useless. I expected better from Apple.

    Unsupported and sad

    • Written by Kaye D from Valdora

Yet another victim of an unsupported accessory. Apple - this is unfair! We paid a pretty penny for these things and they simply stop functioning after what is reasonable use. It appears the magnetic prong connection is the problem and if that is the case them improve the Bluetooth functionality.

Love the idea of this product... not the reliability

    • Written by Zachary A from Old town

As the title says, “Love the idea of this product... not the reliability .” I’ve had two of these. I was happy with both for about a year each. The first lasted a little under a year before the case started to separate. The second lasted just over a year before the same happened. This time, Apple refused to replace it (outside the one year warranty. I’m sorry, but a $200 keyboard for a device touted as a PC replacement needs to last more thank year or 2. Worse, was after describing the issue to customer service over the phone, they had me drive 2.5 hours to the nearest store. Only then was I told that I was outside of the warranty and my only option was to buy another at full price. The bottom line, is that this is not the best keyboard for the iPad. Look elsewhere.

    Pros: Portability, functionality, form factor/convenience

    Cons: Price, durability, support

    Great then not

    • Written by Robert B from Rincon

Bought the Smart Keyboard with a Tech21 case for front and back protection. Keyboard worked seamlessly. I especially liked the keyboard folded up to have felt against the screen instead of the keys. At 23 months it just stopped working with a “device not supported” error message. Calls to Apple Support said it was outside the 1 year warranty so the recommendation was to replace it. Was this just a lemon or is this the state of Apple peripherals now? I thought I paid a premium for Apple products so I wouldn’t have to deal with this problem.

    Expensive and unreliable

    • Written by Trey P from Bagdad

It was great for a while... but after a year or two it only works intermittently. I have a back up one that I bought but it's nowhere as slim as this. I LOVE my Apple products but when things like this (and cables being made cheaper!) start happening, I really wonder why I'm putting out money on products whose quality is going downhill.
