    Smart Keyboard Poor Warranty -Stand Behind

    Really 2-1/2 Stars as when it works it is fantastic. Had the Ipad Pro Smart Keyboard fail just over one year on the previous 2017 version and now the exact same thing on the 2018 version 1yr 3mo-old Ipad Pro Keyboard today. Very disappointing as it is one of the most expensive on the market and always try and be brand specific. Both instances had low to medium use, no abuse/drop/damage to have failed a few months after the 1yr so called warranty. Today a $24 discount was provided for me to purchase a new one at the Apple Store which was more disappointing. Last year no discount so I suppose this is the corporate answer (although could have obtained cheaper elsewhere). I would like to upgrade my 13 month old Ipad but will be looking at the other mfr options. Fool me once and then twice...

    Don't Buy

    It will stop working after few months of use. You might get it replaced under warranty but it will break again.
    Get the Logitech one for 100% works.

    It’s okay.

    I bought this product because I had recently broken my MacBook. I was so excited because I had never owned a Smart Keyboard before. It was great for the first month. After a couple months, it started to fall off very easily. For example, I would run down the stairs and it would fall off. For the price, I expected more. Also, sometimes It would randomly fall off. Also, when I stand it up, sometimes it falls. It is very hard to stand it up on a bed. For $160, I expected more.

    Broke after 2 years

    Worked great for 2 years and then hit failure. Apple needs to address this. If I wanted cheap I would have purchased a knock off. I buy apple because of the quality.... or at least i used to.

    Flawed Product

    I’ve had this keyboard for a year-and-a-half. It’s had very light use. The keyboard only works intermittently. I’ll be typing, and suddenly it will lock. Only way to get it to work is to power down and back up again. Extremely frustrating and time consuming! This is a known issue, but Apple won’t do anything about it. They’ve done an extended warranty due to this issue on the 12.5 and 9.7, but nothing for the 10.5. A lot of money to pay for a product that’s basically useless. I expected better from Apple.

    Unsupported and sad

    Yet another victim of an unsupported accessory. Apple - this is unfair! We paid a pretty penny for these things and they simply stop functioning after what is reasonable use. It appears the magnetic prong connection is the problem and if that is the case them improve the Bluetooth functionality.

    Love the idea of this product... not the reliability

    As the title says, “Love the idea of this product... not the reliability .” I’ve had two of these. I was happy with both for about a year each. The first lasted a little under a year before the case started to separate. The second lasted just over a year before the same happened. This time, Apple refused to replace it (outside the one year warranty. I’m sorry, but a $200 keyboard for a device touted as a PC replacement needs to last more thank year or 2. Worse, was after describing the issue to customer service over the phone, they had me drive 2.5 hours to the nearest store. Only then was I told that I was outside of the warranty and my only option was to buy another at full price. The bottom line, is that this is not the best keyboard for the iPad. Look elsewhere.

    Pros: Portability, functionality, form factor/convenience

    Cons: Price, durability, support

    Great then not

    Bought the Smart Keyboard with a Tech21 case for front and back protection. Keyboard worked seamlessly. I especially liked the keyboard folded up to have felt against the screen instead of the keys. At 23 months it just stopped working with a “device not supported” error message. Calls to Apple Support said it was outside the 1 year warranty so the recommendation was to replace it. Was this just a lemon or is this the state of Apple peripherals now? I thought I paid a premium for Apple products so I wouldn’t have to deal with this problem.

    Expensive and unreliable

    It was great for a while... but after a year or two it only works intermittently. I have a back up one that I bought but it's nowhere as slim as this. I LOVE my Apple products but when things like this (and cables being made cheaper!) start happening, I really wonder why I'm putting out money on products whose quality is going downhill.

    Garbage. Avoid.

    Poor quality product which initially seems stylish but in truth is impractical and flimsy. Often the case will detach from its magnetic hinge which is extremely irritating. If typing on your lap because the case is not attached properly on the hinge it will fall on your hands. I was willing to forgive these flaws until the connection stopped working. A quick google search revealed that I had been duped just like everyone else into buying a product which randomly stops working after a few months. Of course apple do not give any proper warrantee on accessories so I have a £179 paperweight. Thanks apple. Please start making durable products with features we actually want rather than making products that fall to pieces after a year or two so we have to buy them again.

    great idea, terrible execution

    The concept of this keyboard and its foldability into different positions is great, and this would be a 5 star review if it weren’t for the fact that mine (and by the looks of it, many many others) has completely stopped working after just about a year of use.
    It started around 6 months with the occasional need to do a quick disconnect and reconnect to fix the issue.
    But now my iPad will not recognize the key word at all and I threw $160+ down the drain at apple.

    10.5 Smart Keyboard - pricey paperweight. Offered 8% discount buy new

    13 months after purchase, keyboard stopped working. I had heard that some were being repaired or replaced through the forums so I thought I would ask. Support desk suggested I take it to store as it was listed for repair. I drove two hours to the closest location to be told it did not work. I was offered a new one at a deep purchase discount of 8% . My response.....Why would I spend $180 to repurchase what was clearly a defective product?

    Good...at first, after 2 years doesn’t work - and expensive

    Apple, please make items that function well, are easy to use, look good and last. Please do not turn into the Cuisinart of electronics - used to be well made, highly functional, long life....I guess various executives cut costs, drove up revenues and made huge amounts of money as they rode the brand into the ground....you can only get away with that for so long. And by the way, I might even give up my iPhone if you continue to make them so slippery it’s inevitable it gets dropped and broken...can’t you add ridge lines to the sides?

    Great Feel, Spill Resistant, Fast But... Section 508 Accessible it is NOT

    Really love the keyboard and have had one on each iPad using it regularly. My iPad 12.9" generation 1 has had the keyboard on it since it came out in Sept 2015. Yes, the lettering can wear and yes the space bar gets shiny with use. I have one on my iPad Pro 10.5 as well, same story.

    The biggest single problem is that there is no way to activate the "Siri keyboard" or "speech to text" when the keyboard is attached. You must remove the keyboard to have the iPad soft keyboard appear. Then it eventually activates the speech to text and the button with the microphone appears.

    I will commonly use speech-to-text to dictate my emails, my notes, and even in Pages for word processing. Not having a microphone key on Apple iOS keyboards is a huge hinderance, even for those not disabled for which it is a necessity.

    As other reviewers have noted, Apple's attention to detail on this product is somewhat disappointing.

    When any Apple keyboard is attached, the iPad is no longer Section 508 Accessibility qualified. Accordingly the Apple keyboard needs to be banned from government purchasing as it is operates contrary to accessibility use law.

    Too expensive for short life span

    This product is not to Apple standards. It worked nicely, then intermittently, and now not at all. Just two years of reasonable use. I won't buy again. The cost is too high for the lifespan of the product.

    Stops connecting to the iPad

    I have the same problem everyone is reporting in these reviews - my keyboard no longer connects to my ipad pro. It's just out of warranty, and Apple has not acknowledged this widespread issue so they refuse to replace it. I kept perfect care of my keyboard, which looks brand new. I always handled it with perfect care and never dropped it. It's too expensive to fail like this. I would strongly advise against purchasing this accessory.

    SHAMEFUL! Why Haven’t These Been Recalled Also?

    Absolutely shameful that Apple knows that these keyboards don’t work properly or, in my case, not at all and they don’t recall and replace them with improved models. The keys started not working or getting stuck shortly after purchase and now it’s dead. The keyboard has been treated with the greatest respect due to its cost. The “genius” at the store had the gall to say to me, “Too bad you bought one of these, I wouldn’t have.” Of course they offered to sell me another one for the “unheard of” generous offer of 20% off. Give me a break!

    Unpleasant for typing

    When open, keyboard do not lay down properly and typing in it is quite unplesant. Besides, when reading and keyboard is fold, you may press the board and interfere on your Pad. I already bought two keyboards. It is not well designed.

    Yesterday I opened my keyboard cover and was presented with the error message that this accessory wasn’t supported and the keyboard wouldn’t work. Then it would work intermittently. Today it totally died. As others have commented, I shocked apple continues to sell this, when clearly there’s a quality issue. A one year warranty on such a defective product is shameful. I certainly won’t be buying another at $159.00.
