    Terrible, Defective Apple Keyboard

    The keyboard works intermittently after only a year and a half of use, and is otherwise in mint condition. The quality is unacceptable. I tried to service the product but they don't repair these keyboards.

    Genius Bar and Customer Service were totally inefficient. I had to wait for almost an hour to get accurate information.

    Buggy for an Apple product.

    Oddly, this keyboard is weirdly buggy. Out of the blue it stops responding and I must detach then reattach it to my iPad. Likewise, it will get stuck on a key and keep repeating it until I detach then reattach it again. At first I thought it was dirty or worn contacts but the contacts are clean and make a solid connection. I made the mistake of outfitting my whole department with these and more than half report the same issues. This is sad because the form factor is great. They keyboard is light, slim and quiet. When it works, typing is accurate, too. But dang is it buggy. I would use caution if buying it and needing for for real work. Yet again, another Apple product that suffers from the loss of their amazing leader. This seems to be a recurring theme with almost all products. Even a simple keyboard is not safe from lack of attention to detail. Luckily, the few Logitech keyboard that we have swapped out for work very well.

    Here I have a keyboard that won’t connect or ‘isn’t being recognized’ by my iPad, not even a year old. iPad Pro 10.5 is a beast with this keyboard, thin light, perfect. I am very gentle with my Apple products (I have a 2008 iMac and 2011 MacBook Pro that are nearly mint).
    This product has an issue it might as well be ‘smart connector gate’ or at least part of the ‘Apple Keyboard’ gate.
    Given as a gift to go back to school, so I did not receive bill of sale. I understand they can’t just have people busting up stuff and replacing it, but this product wears out so quickly. I had a Smart Cover for 2 years on my last iPad that looks newer than this thing. This month it decided to stop working.

    Called Apple, the person who helped me was very nice, but kept asking questions that made me question if he knew the product line. Brought me to another Specialist who I think hung up on my cause they were frustrated.

    Not pleased.

    Rip off

    Not worth it

    I loved this keyboard while it worked. Stopped working in the 13 month. No warranty left. Too expensive for the product life. Judging by the reviews I am not alone. Makes me question the quality of Apples products for my future purchases. Not happy

    It does not lay flat due to weight of I pad Air. It does not cover the iPad properly. Don't even bother with this. Mine is going back immediately.

    Good while it lasts...(one year only max)

    The keyboard is very good while it lasts. The sensitivity and feel of keyboard is very good and allows for very fast typing.

    The only thing that is very very frustrating is that within a year the keyboard stops working. I have had three thus far and all three have stopped working within a year. Given the price, it should last much longer.

    It seems to be the wiring connecting the keyboard to the iPad as that area has a lot of movement in it and perhaps over time the wiring (which is very thin) just gives way.

    I will be taking to an Apple Store to see if they will replace.

    Scrapped up the side of my iPad

    Had it 18 mo. It hardly connects anymore and the magnetic part now has no rubber protection, so the side of my iPad is totally etched. Just found out that the 9.7 and the 12.9 have extensions to their warranty and the 10.5 doesn’t. So ridiculous as they are all made the same and the ALL FAIL!!!!!! Do no buy. Terrible waste of money but also terrible for the environment as it’s basically a disposable keyboard. Shame Apple.

    Not made to last past 2 years

    I’ve had the apple key board for almost three years now. It worked BEAUTIFULLY until a couple months ago when it let go on me. Sometimes it would type then sometimes it wouldn’t. Now it doesn’t work at all and I have to find a new keyboard. For being the price that it is I would expect it to last much longer, but I don’t think it was made to last a really long time. This is the only flaw I have found with the apple keyboard though. I really liked it when it worked properly because it was so simple. If you are looking for a durable case/keyboard and don’t mind that it will give out eventually then this is for you.

    Does not last - Terrible value

    I enjoyed my smart keyboard while it worked. After 18 months my iPad stopped recognizing the smart keyboard and the on-screen keyboard would pop up instead. Apple could not repair and would not offer a replacement because it was past the 1 year warranty. Now my iPad Pro is no longer a laptop replacement, and I am hesitant to spend another $160 on a keyboard with such poor durability. Very frustrating.

    Makes the iPad 100x more useful

    I love tablet computing for what it is, but when you add this keyboard it really opens up what can be done on it. You can realistically sit and write a paper or correspondence or actually write code, which I found possible but difficult to do using the on-screen keyboard. For me, it's transformed the iPad experience for the better, and has enabled me to travel without the need to haul around a lot of computer gear.

    I tried out a few different keyboard cases as well and found this one not only to be the most comfortable to use, but also the least prone to error. Lots of other keyboards aren't quite large enough or the keys aren't placed quite in the right place which made me have to go back and correct a lot of errant key strikes. That said, I find this keyboard to be much better than the one on my 2016 Macbook Pro (which doesn't seem right, but it is what it is.) Additionally, the Pencil will magnetically stick to the outside of the keyboard case, which is a nice happenstance if it wasn't designed that way.

    As for the reliability aspect, I bought this in June 2017 and have had almost zero issues. A few months ago it appeared to have died, but I took it off the iPad, restarted the iPad, then reconnected it after and it has been working great since. In my opinion, it's a worthwhile accessory (maybe even necessary for me at this point) although a bit expensive.

    Bad design

    It is frustrating that this Smart Keyboard does not offer any cover protection for the back of my new iPad Pro and there is not a case that you can attach to the the iPad at the same time as the Keyboard to remedy the situation. While I like the keyboard, I never find myself getting out my new iPad and instead always reaching for my old iPad in a case because I’m afraid of breaking the new iPad. If there was a case that was compatible with the Smart Keyboard that would be doable but there is not and now the folio Smart Keyboard isn’t even available for the 10.5 in Pro! Ugh come on Apple!!

    Subpar Product, doesn’t last

    I had the same problem as everyone else. First one lasted 3 months before it stopped connecting (accessory not found) but it was replaced under warranty. Second one lasted 5 months and the apple store refused to replace it again. Though they offered me a discount to buy a 3rd one for $135 lol. Definitely take your chances with a third party keyboard. This one works great for 3 months or so, but then youre stuck with a $160 half cover with a useless keyboard. Shame on apple for not doing a total recall with this subpar product.

    An extremely useful accessory... until it stops working.

    When it was working, my typing speed was blindingly fast in comparison to the standard keyboard (even with a certain company's 3rd party keyboard). I loved it. But After going through two issues and Apple not willing to replace the item again as it replaced over thirty days prior, I'm left with a very expensive stand... but at least that still works for now.

    Not to mention the contact points wear down too easily and actually cause damage to the iPad (deep cosmetic scratches on the magnetic contact points).

    Literally coming apart at the seams after a year.

    So, for £159... the product Is a year and 3 months old (so conveniently just out of warranty) and now the side seam of the keyboard is ungluing where the air holes were... it;s not physical damage, it lives in an ipad case and the corresponding part of the fold is not damaged either it didn’t receive a blow or constant rubbing; just ungluing - literally coming apart at the seams.

    Going by other reviews it seems the product does not have an acceptable useful life; unless you want to spend this on product that only lasts a year, be warned.
    Really like the button feedback (a bit loud clicky but satisfying if you’re the user :-))and the tactility is good, but construction quality is evidently poor.
