Don't waste your money on an apple keyboard

    • Written by Srinivasan R from Makati

Great form but zero reliability. Mine completely quit working almost immediately after the warranty period ended. I am sitting now with this useless piece of equipment that I paid almost $200 but cannot last for 1 full year! So annoying!

Read up online, all reviews are true - this is really a piece of garbage. Save yourself some money & buy a good bluetooth keyboard.

    Not the best

    • Written by Cindy C from Maple

I love this keyboard; it’s easy to use, portable, light and not Bluetooth required so it saves my battery in that respect. Although I’m lucky that it hasn’t completely bailed out on me for the past 2.5 years I’ve been using it, I’ve noticed that the magnetic strip is falling apart and every 5th time i use it or so it fails to connect without a hard restart. Please, Apple, this is such a useful and sleek product, make it practical for our money!

A good first effort, but lots of room for improvement

    • Written by Gero V from London

A good first effort, but I think there is a lot of rooom for improvement on version 2. Quality isn’t fantastic - it feels like it will last, which is good, but its not very refined - for example, the edges of the case/keyboard are sharp enough to cut you. The finish is OK, but pretty basic - a fabric finish would have been nicer and more in keeping with the apple brand. It’s very noisy... really noisy.. enough that colleagues comment when you are tapping away in meetings (don’t sit next to the telecom mic!!). Hopefully I will get quieter with time! I think the lack of travel doesn’t really help. I don’t see why the keyboard could not have been larger - i’m Sure the origami design would allow for this and it would have been nicer to have at least 1 more row of keys for inclusion of short cuts (lifting your hand up to the screen is slow and cumbersome). The lack of backlit keys limits the lusefullness of the keyboard to. Overall, its basic, but get the job done in a portable design. If you are trying to get some serious typing done however, i’d Look for alternatives!

Stopped working after a six months.

    • Written by MICHAEL R from JERSEY CITY

It just stopped working about six months after I purchased it. It kept giving inconsistent errors until it stopped working. Don’t buy. And hope someone starts a class action suit.

Works great until it doesn't -- serious design flaw

    • Written by Rhet T from San Pedro

I've gone through 2 of these keyboards in the last year. Both worked great until they stopped working...symptoms the same each time. Would start with a stuck key or a phantom key (repeat key press even when you weren't typing) and get progressively worse until the keyboard was unusable. Something in the keyboard, possibly a wire in the incredibly then hinge, is breaking over time. Apple honored the warranty on the first keyboard but only gave a 30-day warranty on the replacement, which failed about 90 days later. I've switched to a cheaper (albeit heavier) 3rd party blue-tooth keyboard. Bummer because this keyboard is really nice while it works.

    Total Disapointment

    • Written by Vicmael A from Apopka

I suggest no one buy this product. In less than a year the Keyboard started losing connectivity. I took it to the store and I missed the warranty by a couple of days. Now it is no longer working. The only solution that the "Apple Genius" gave me was to buy a new one...very "Genius". A lot of loyal Apple customers are having the same problem. I've tried looking for ways to fix the keyboard myself and was not successful. You'd be paying a lot of money for something that would barely last you a year. Where is Steve when you need him?

Like it so far, a bit expensive

    • Written by Lauren S from St Clair shores

I purchased this keyboard with my first iPad Pro in February, it has worked perfectly for me in the last 8 months. I like the easy magnetic attachment and the fact that is doubles as a case. I haven’t had any issues so far. Keyboard strokes are fluid. I got some sticky sauce on the felt portion of the keyboard and was pleasantly surprised that it wiped was able to be wiped off with a damp cloth, leaving no stain or residue. It was a bit expensive though.

    Typical Apple ripoff

    • Written by Arno M from Weybridge

I bought the keyboard last year for my iPad Pro. It worked until I updated to iOS 12. Since then I get the message “This accessory is not supported”. As many times before you waste your money on expensive kit and when the next update comes it is useless rubbish. £159 for just over one year usage is quite a lot.

I love this product. It is a snug fit and very lightweight, and I am glad that for the iPad Pro I can use either any Bluetooth keyboard or this one, even though I see no reason to buy a Bluetooth keyboard when this one works perfectly. If you're used to typing on a laptop, the smaller key space takes a little getting use to, but overall this product is great.

    Wow Same Experience

    • Written by Zy V from Chicopee

I am reading some of the reviews about the tear in the keyboard and I have to agree I was a sucker for buying it as well, but it’s helpful when you’re typing documents. I am still trying to figure out what’s to smart about it, besides how it connects to the IPAD along, but once I log onto websites and I try to put in my email address I have use the built in keyboard and not the Smart Keyboard since it refuse to recognize I need to input a lowercase letter instead of capitalized first to log into my account.

    Keyboard no longer connects

    • Written by Steve W from North Chesterfield

The keyboard has lost the ability to connect. This problem has been getting worst for some time. But now it is dead. Does this keyboard have the extended three year warranty?

    Faulty product, do not buy

    • Written by Alexandra G from Merritt Island

It’s great until it stops working. My first one was replaced under warranty. I’m on my second one and now have the same issues as the first — won’t connect, keys sticking, etc — only now I’m out of warranty. These keyboards last roughly six months. Don’t take my word for it; do a search. Lots of people are having the same problem. Buy something else.

    Keyboard loses the connection

    • Written by Andres P from Brookline

I have replaced the keyboard twice, I got my third keyboard with apple care and after a few weeks the keyboard started to fail too, after a long time (you have to restart the ipad or reset the network) you can get it to work, but this is not functional. I love the keyboard when it works, the design is great but the connection fails. I have used three of these, it cannot be random, there is something wrong with the product. I don’t have apple care any more this means that I will have to buy another. Does this happen with the other brands?

    Truly Garbage

    • Written by Karlton B from Nasville

    1. Stiff awkward keys: if you are a very fast typer, this keyboard will infuriate you. It is very uncomfortable to type on. I was never able to wrtie more than 1000 words on it without wanting to claw my eyes out.
    2. Heavy: the iPad Pro is already clunky enough, with the keyboard it becomes downright cumbersome and far too heavy (especially if you are a long time iPad user and have become accustomed to a sleek, light device). God help you if you drop your iPad with the keyboard attached.
    3. All of the magnets are too weak: by far the most infuriating case to stand up and baaaaarely holding on to the hinge.
    4. IT L-I-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y EXPIRES!: nope. Not kidding. When they rolled out iOS 11 it instantly became a useless $169 Dumb Cover.

DO NOT buy this keyboard if for no other reason than #4; don’t completely waste $169. My tip? Get the normal old apple Bluetooth keyboard. I’ve had mine for about 5 years and it still works like a dream.

Terrible product. Has stopped working entirely, giving ‘accessory not supported’ error messages. No damage and persists with multiple restarts. Apple will not replace, they will apparently only replace 9.5 and 12.5 sizes despite this being a known issue. Avoid.

    Short Life-span

    • Written by Ryan R from San Antonio

I've had my smart keyboard for just over a year and it has stopped working. When it's connected I get the "This accessory is not supported" error. Looking online, this seems to be a widespread issue. I've tried the apple recommended fixes (making sure contacts are clean, device is seated correctly, etc) to no avail.

    Worked great then ‘not compatible’

    • Written by Shawn or Michelle S from Scottsdale

Loved this keyboard and the fact it was a cover also. Worked great for a year and a half then it started draining my battery as it wouldn’t close tightly. Now all I get are pop up messages ‘device incompatible’ and can’t type using the keyboard. Was great as I could type on my lap or table now nothing! Too expensive to quit already. Disappointed.

After reading some of the reviews I wondered if I should order this keyboard. I decided to take a chance and I'm so happy I did. The Keyboard is excellent and does exactly what I need it to do. I have no issues with the surface and the keys are the perfect size for me.
