    Piece of you know

    • Written by Rodrigo P from Woodcliff Lake

I barely use this smart keyboard, apple is a joke, make a very poor quality product and don’t want to recognize it.
They extended the warranty but they should replace all keyboards with known problems as mine. Out of nothing it stopped to work, apple said my keyboard is out of warranty 4 months and want to charge me $99 + taxes to replace mine. They don’t even have a way to fix it. I threw money In the garbage with this

A Smart Keyboard the becomes Stupid...

    • Written by ARTHUR A. M from Verbank

I am a big fan of Apple and never have had an issue. This so called Apple Smart Keyboard (ASK) becomes very stupid after about a year. One needs to ASK themselves if it's apple or a 3rd party that makes them. ASK yourself do you believe all the negative reviews and you just want this product? ASK yourself if it's better to look else where for less money.

I didn't ASK these question and I am now stuck with a stupid cover for my iPad.

I have tried the recommendations in the Apple support forums, the youtube videos and the ASK forums, to no avail. I am now looking to purchase a less expensive keyboard and stick to bluetooth.

One of the worst products from Apple

Broken after one year. Do not buy such a product. Apple should be ashamed.

    Terrible design

    • Written by Vittoria B from Firenze

I purchased an iPad and, at the same time, purchased the keyboard along with it, without reading the reviews first. HUGE MISTAKE. I found out the keyboard doesn’t lie flat when typing. I’m trying to flatten it with a weight or something while I’m not using it. $160 for this thing are an insult. Will never buy an apple keboard again.

Worst keyboard ever! Waste of money.

    • Written by Michael F from MIAMI

Hello, I would like to start off by saying I cannot believe this keyboard. I have been a fan of Apple for so many years. I have had every Apple iPhone since the first generation including the S models. I’ve had every Apple iPad since the first one as well. All I can tell you is this keyboard is the most ridiculous insulting thing I have ever experienced. No backlight, no protection for your device on the back. $160 for a device that makes me feel like I am going back in time. I don’t know what the engineers were thinking or this is just a tactic to make more money. But let me tell you I don’t think we deserve this as customers this keyboard is horrible. How can I not be able to use my iPad in less than extremely light setting because I can’t see the keyboard or what I’m typing. Definitely I would give it zero stars if possible.

Failed after 2 years and was too expensive for that

    • Written by Jeffrey F from PITTSBURGH

While mine lasted longer than others, it still failed and I need to go buy a replacement. I’m being harsh due to the cost, for $160 there should have been a longer lifespan. And, there should have been an AppleCare coverage for 2 years. Now, it failed after 2 years, but the fraying and the other cosmetic issues started much earlier.

    Big reliability issues

    • Written by Serge L from Paris

Nice keyboard providing good protection to the iPad but big reliability issues
I bought the first iPad Pro in 2016, the first keyboard lasted only 11 months and was replaced by Apple. I then bought the next generation iPad Pro early 2018 and again 15 months after the Smart Keyboard fails. And I had to replace it at my own expenses
    Disappointing from Apple

    I have no words

    • Written by Adrianna R from Ada

I purchased this product as a desperate college student wanting to type notes for class and I must say I am highly upset with Apple and this product. I bought it for my iPad Air which I got in the mail yesterday and when I first connected it absolutely nothing happened. I contacted an advisor that told me to update my iPad and try again. HERE I AM WITH AN UPDATED IPAD AND IT STILL DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. If there was an option to give 0 stars I would.

DON’T BUY THIS - Stopped working after 14 months

    • Written by Jorge N from New Orleans

Like so many people on this forum mine died after minimal use. At first I was very happy with it because it was slim and functional (ie using it to type out emails etc was fine). But then it started working intermittently and I thought it was a software problem. Surely it would be fixed with the next iOS update. It wasn’t. The problem got worse, and as time went by the keyboard connected less and less often. Tried everything: connect/disconnect, restart iPad, hard reset iPad etc. Nothing worked. I should have gone to the Apple store right away when it first started happening. Instead I waited. When I finally went they told me it was out of warranty but that I could just buy a new one. The person who helped me didn’t even know how to troubleshoot it, asking me whether it connected via Bluetooth or directly to the iPad. They didn’t try to do anything at all, simply saying: “sorry but it’s out of warranty, we have it in stock if you’d like to buy a replacement”. This is an expensive product, and Apple’s customer service is terrible. I’d expect good customer service from a company with such expensive products and making so much money. Shame on you Apple.

    Accessory not supported

    • Written by Marc N from Winder

Keyboard worked great for over a year but has slowly declined and now no longer functions. Seems the norm and very disappointed that Apple will own up the the poor quality of their workmanship.

After a few weeks the keyboard is useless as a keyboard and only holds up my iPad while I watch movies. It very rarely connects because the “smart connector” is stupid and does not allow for a good connection.

    Do not buy the smartkeyboard.

    • Written by Alex M from Tegucigalpa

Trust me, the smartkeyboard will stop working after 1 year, I bought it for my ipad pro. After 1 year, it was completely useless, I kept it just to protect the screen. Apple repalced it; nevertheless, the second lasted less than a year. I went back to the store, and surpisingly after a 2 year period no further support is provided.

Very nice while it still worked

    • Written by Tom K from Oslo

After about one year of perfect behaviour, my iPad Pro 10.5" no longer will connect with the Smart Keyboard. Like many others have reported on the net, I could for a while get a temporary connection by disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting the iPad, if that does not work, by a hard reset etc., but now, a week after the first symptoms, it seems that none of these remedies helps. It's a pity that so many users seem to have the same problem and that no solutions have been provided. We don't even know whether the iPad or the keyboard is faulty, or if it's a persistent software problem. I cannot recommend this otherwise close to perfect keyboard solution for iPad Pro 10.5" before a solution has been found.

    Don’t Buy

    • Written by Brian B from East Aurora

In 2 years this is my 3rd Smart Keyboard. I’ve had Apple products for decades, I know how to take care of them. My latest is 2 months old, and it’s already opened up on the side. The Apple Genius called this normal wear and tear. Since when is a product falling apart, normal wear and tear? The typing is fine and it’s relatively light, but it’s junk. If you actually use your iPad it WILL fall apart. Buyer be very aware. Again, DON’T BUY!

    Essentially an overpriced iPad stand

    • Written by Dayna C from Victoria

I am writing this review using the on-screen keyboard as, like most other reviewers, my Smart Keyboard stopped working around the one year mark.

I loved it at first - it’s discreet and offers a nice typing experience - but over time it became very inconsistent in connecting properly and eventually ceased connecting altogether. I noticed when I brought it in for support (where they agreed it was dead and advised me to buy a new one) that the tech had been pressing on the back to try to view the serial number, and this slight bending actually made the keyboard work again briefly when I returned home. Manipulating and bending it gently has been my new strategy to get it to connect, but it takes a long while to get it just right and god help you if you move the iPad after it connects. Overall it’s useless to me now.

I’m a fan of most apple products but am extremely disappointed in this one.

    Worked great, for 20 months....

    • Written by Daniel S from New York

Purchased in Sept 2017, after about 18 months the keyboard would intermittently disconnect, at about the 21st month it died completely. I went to the Genius Bar hoping for relief, and the offered the 20% discount off a new one. The poor quality is really unacceptable for a $159 product targeted to the professional user.

Not Build to Last - Disappointed

    • Written by Brandon W from Peoria

Like many other reviewers, I purchased this keyboard about 1.5 years ago and a couple months ago it started not-working intermittently and now it doesn't work at all. I went to an Apple Store and was told they'd go ahead and order me another one....at full retail price. Evidently the warranty is only valid for one (1) year on accessories. Frankly, it's unacceptable that an accessory this expensive doesn't work more than a 1.5 years. Not to mention, this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident as there are many others with similar $170 paperweights.

    Total and utter rubbish

    • Written by Stuart M from Street

What is it with apple charging you a fortune for something you can get down the market for a tenner, no what you get down the market actually works.
This product is the worst product I have ever bought from apple and I have had three laptops that never worked. Don’t waste your money or time, I sent mine back within ten minutes of it being delivered. Apple seem to think they can treat you like an idiot an make total rubbish and charge you a fortune, well I have news for you apple you can’t any longer.

    Wasted Money

    • Written by Carissa B from Harlem

This keyboard worked well at first, but after only 16 months of gentle use it stopped working. I will not be spending another $159 on a product that is just going to die on me again, after a short time of use. I may as well just take that money and burn it. This keyboard is not at all worth it.
