    DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

    My team bought 3 of these along with 3 x 12.9' Pro' and all 3 Smart Keyboards have stopped working after 1.5 years. If it is only a short term solution perhaps the $245 price should be half that. First apple product that has failed in my eyes.

    Works...until it doesn’t.

    Good keyboard for the first few months and then—as so many other reviewers have noted—the thing is a frustrating, malfunctioning piece of junk. I thought it was a software glitch when my keyboard stopped working on the Notes App but then noticed it would stop working universally. I did the same thing many reviewers here did: disconnect and reconnect, reboot, etc. You can get it to work again but only temporarily. I’m a lifelong Apple fan but is it my imagination or is their software and hardware becoming less reliable, more buggy, cheaper-made, run-of-the-mill stuff? The early laptops and desktops were phenomenally bug free and reliable. Now most of my Apple products inevitably crash on a regular basis. It’s disappointing!

    Different sizing of new Smart Keyboard

    Very surprised and disappointed to find that the new Smart Keyboard for the new iPad Pro 10.5 is not compatable with the integrated covers from the original version and sits proud of the previous iPad Pro rather than flush. The magnetic fixing strip is wider and so does not fit in. Keyboard also slightly wider and so does not fit flush with the edge of the iPad. This is the third keyboard I have had in two years, they just dont seem robust enough for daily use. Not at all clear from the apple website that there is a size different.

    does not hold up to normal use

    I am on my second apple keyboard. This keyboard works great when it works but does not hold up to normal use. I have to keep pulling the keyboard away from the iPad to get it to reconnect, but often It take 3 or 4 attempts. I think that the connectors to the iPad wear out too quickly.

    The design is great but realistically if you use it normally the keyboard will stop working well within 6 to 12 months.

    Doesn't hold up

    Started losing connectivity, no abuse, normal use. After a year, Now it now longer works, just an over-priced stand.

    Loved my keyboard until it packed up...

    Great product but extremely expensive as once the 1 year warranty is over, the keyboard only works intermittently, and sometimes wont work at all.
    I have tried all the suggested fixes and the keyboard has not been damaged and has been treated carefully.
    My keyboard is just under two year old and with careful use I would expect it to have a much longer life!

    Broken After Six Months

    The title says it all. I bought this at the same time as buying my iPad Pro, and the keyboard broke after six months. Was a total waste of money. The iPad wouldn't even detect it anymore. No drops or damage, either - it just up and died on its own, and as I was past the return date, the only thing Apple suggested was that I buy a new one.

    Avoid this and go third-party if you really want a keyboard. This one just isn't any good.

    Functional but doesn't hold up to normal usage

    I have had mine for less than a year and the seam that holds the keyboard together has started to separate. It hasn't been dropped, just normal taking it out and putting it back in the briefcase. I tried to get a replacement at the Apple store and they told me it was normal wear and tear and I would have to pay $125 to have it fixed, which is almost the cost of a new one. If Apple thinks the Ipad pro is potential laptop replacement than they will need to come up with a design that holds up.

    Fails too often & not worth the money

    Sadly, this product fails all too often (three times during the writing of this review alone).

    Before I go on with the negatives I must acknowledge that it does work on some occasions and certainly when it does work it does exactly what it is supposed to do. On that point, the keyboard is reponsive and pleasant enough to type upon. I also appreciate how compact it is (I use the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement when in Court).

    However, this accessory rarely works. I am unaware if the fault lies with the keyboard itself or the connector.

    Regardless, my advice to those considering purchasing is to heed the advice of the others who reviewed this product poorly (something I did not do and regret). Simply put, you are spending money on an accessory which, at best, works some of the time.

    Finally, although I have been complementary of the product when it works I cannot for the life of me see how the cost is justified. There is no feature or function within this product that elevates it to warrant the price tag attached.

    Ultimately to be avoided.

    Feels uncharacteristically cheap.

    Upside: the learning curve is not as steep as I’d imagined, and it does complement the functionality of the iPad quite well.
    Downsides: No escape key. Not all apps respond to the keyboard (e.g. Netflix). No backlit keys. The worse offender: the fugly cheap coating. It’s baffling to see Microsoft create such amazing keyboards for their Surface line while Apple’s feel like a knockoff picked out from a back alley basket sale.

    Underwhelmed.

    Spotted it on display at COSCTO, and I figured that since it came from Apple, I just had to have it. Bad decision. Was first of all very disappointed that the keys are not backlit. Or did I miss something. How come so many third-party keyboards come with backlighting? Secondly, no back protection. It's bad enough that Apple won't include at a minimum a simple vinyl cover for basic protection with the original iPad, instead you expect us to pay $30 to $100 plus for a decent cover. Finally, I buy this combination keyboard/cover and there's no back protection! Returning it today. Steve Jobs is looking down on you from above and he's not happy.

    Does not last

    Does not last! We bought this product about a year ago not sure if it was the hot weather on the holiday but on the hinge side where it attached to the iPad it lost all its shape and I will not stay on properly, pretty useless after one year, waste of money.

    Poor execution

    The back isn't protected and it's flimsy. The logitech is also horrible and these are the only two on the market that uses the smart connector. Too bad that I bought the Ipad pro 10.5 The 9.7 has more accessories and the extra 0.7" doesn't matter. This will be my last Apple purchase. Your creativity and design died when Steve Jobs passed away. Apple is no longer the same company and it's sad.

    Fix the problem Apple - I’m walking.

    These keyboards worked well until the IOS 11 updates, in fact i LOVED my keyboard and used it for work everyday! now i keep getting the dreaded Accessory not Supported notice... people everywhere are having trouble. Own up Apple, own the problem and get the compatibility issue sorted. Stop telling people that it isn’t a problem - you know that it is. I’m so frustrated I’m going to head to a PC - Surface Pro seem more reliable - so disappointing as I’ve been an advocate for Apple for years.

    Can’t be more poorly designed for an apple product

    The design of the keyboard can’t be more stupid. The whole back is exposed, leading to unavoidable scratches and dents. The felt like inner surface attracts dirts and can’t be cleaned well. It flips backward so annoyingly easily, making it difficult to open with one hand. I guess the designer thinks the ipad is only used when you have both hands free doing nothing else on a perfectly clean surface.

    I had a Belkin keyboard for my previous ipad which provided great protection and easy of use/cleaning. I can’t wait for a Belkin like aftermarket product to replace this keyboard. What a waste of money for this keyboard.

    Disappointing

    We just returned our Smart Keyboard today, it had very limited protection for the Ipad and the keyboard seemed awkward to use. The keys were not back lit nor was there a storage spot for the Apple Pencil. Hoping a better design comes along soon.

    Virtually dilapidated.

    Not only was this Keyboard overly expensive after 20 months of use (collage student) it not doesn’t connect and the iPad says “ accessory not supported” and YES Apple I did restore my iPad and cleaned the connectors. This is so frustrating because now I have to buy a new Keyboard because it’s out of warranty (perfect timing on apples part) and my hands and neck hurt like crazy because of constantly having to look directly down to type. Oh and collage students usally don’t have $130+ laying around. I WILL NEVER BUY A APPLE ACCESSORY AGAIN. THANKS FOR DEFRAUDING STUDENTS APPLE.

    No back support

    This case works fine as a keyboard but I got it as a gift over the holidays and there’s no back coverage of the iPad. Now my ipad has small dents in the back of it. You would think for the price this would be more functional, but I guess apple only really cares about design and not usability. I’ll literally never buy another apple brand case after this.
