    This is in answer to “Small But Serious Design Flaw.” Which states that the keyboard does not lie flat on a flat surface and I think the reviewer mentioned a desk or a kitchen table. My thought would be to look to that surface. I am using the Smart Keyboard on a lap desk and it is completely and comfortably stable. The keyboard is small and you must adjust to that, and I’m still challenged by three or four sections I must arrange in order to view the iPad Pro and use the keyboard, but that’s probably just a failure of dexterity rather than a design flaw. I am very happy with the whole arrangement.

    One year later, it's a dud

    I usually never write reviews of Apple products because of their high quality, but this keyboard warranted one. I won't repeat what others have said, but in short, the keyboard fails within a year with the "device not supported" error message frequently appearing. Apple refuses to admit the manufacturing error, which is shocking considering the quality we are used to having. I loved the keyboard when it was working, but unless I see a huge sale on it, I can't imagine getting another one. Pretty awful, Apple.

    Don’t waste your money.

    Don’t waste your money on the keyboard. I have a 12 inch IPad Pro Smart Keyboard after the year warranty started to fail. The IPad will say device not compatible or whatever is the message, Apple put a workaround of re-start the iPad and see if it recognize the keyboard, it work for awhile until this re-starting, removing, plugging gets old. You can have the IPad in your bag and all of the sudden starts making the noise that the device isn’t recognize. Wasting battery life and your patience not to mentioned when you need the Stupid keyboard the thing don’t work. Don’t get me wrong is the right keyboard for the IPad but the design is not to Apple standards, the $200.00 stupid keyboard becomes stupid after the 1 year warranty, and then you realize how such a sucker you are for buying it.

    Not Entirely Reliable

    I bought this keyboard for my iPad to type papers (I am an undergraduate English major.) This keyboard stopped working eight months after I purchased it; when I inquired as to why it might have stopped working, the Genius Bar employee did not give me a solid answer. Overall, I like this keyboard, but was disappointed it broke down in less than a year!

    Good product but did not last long

    I bought 2 of these and they were great but less than 2 years later neither of them work. I expect much better longevity for an apple product this price.

    Stopped working within months

    I purchased the Smart Keyboard for my iPad Pro and within less than half a year it would no longer respond to keystrokes, and would constantly give me the message saying “this device is not supported”. It was never subjected to any abuse, and there’s no reason it should not be working.

    It was great... for a few months - "Device NOT Supported"

    Got the iPad Pro 9.7 version of this and used it everyday... for about 3 months. Then iOS 11 came out and suddenly my Device is NOT Supported." Love all things Apple... Hate that this Smart Keyboard doesn't work like it should. Next time I put $150 out for a keyboard I will get the Apple wireless keyboard for Mac and just use Bluetooth to connect. :/

    Good keyboard - useless support

    The keyboard's good. Lacks backlighting however. Magnets work better than the Apple cover. Pairs well with the Tech21 hard back protector.

    It does not work like a Mac keyboards, so don't be misled.

    The instructions "Switch from your SMART Keyboard etc" are wrong. For a start you only get a partial IOS keyboard bar. Showing the text/spelling choices or username/password options. There is no down v on the keyboard, it is actually the 'globe/world' key you use to 'toggle' this onscreen bar. When you first use it it gives you a keyboard choice dropdown. After selecting the keyboard (usually the language of choice) you want from a pop up menu the emoji screen remains. If you press the keyboard symbol (bottom right) it will toggle off immediately. You have to press the 'ABC'. It will disappear, but whenever you normally have the option bar in IOS it will appear again.

    To cancel the bar when it pops up press the down v in the right hand corner. You may have to re-toggle to get it to work again.

    Apple need to train their support staff about this. I spent a wasted hour going through it with two of them!!! They hadn't even seen the keyboard!

    Device not supported

    Both me and my wife have this keyboard for our iPads but they never work. We constantly get errors coming up saying ‘device not supported’. My wife’s is nearly brand new and it stopped working after two months. We took it back to the Apple store and they said ‘too bad, we can’t help you, you need to make an appointment with the Apple app. Impossible to make an appointment for service with Apple. Absolute ripoff!

    Vinyl seams on cover are separating

    I’ve had this.Smart Cover for 8 months and today I noticed that the seams in the vinyl cover are separating on the left and right sides. My iPad sits on the coffee table most of the time, so I don’t attribute this to wear and tear. Apparently, Apple does and has rejected my repair claim. I’m a big fan of Apple products....but not this one.

    Functionality, yes... Protection and Value, NO

    The functionality of this keyboard is obviously very good. The keys do work well and it does *ALMOST* feel like a laptop keyboard. The smart connector works well and seamlessly with iPad... however, for $159 I expect that the back of the iPad should be protected. It's the only thing that stops me from keeping the case. It should have a back case for the iPad like the old Smart Case they used to sell that had protection for the backside of the iPad. I feel that this is not good value for the price Apple is charging (but what else is new). Until I find something better, I'll go back to my Logitech bluetooth keyboard and using my OtterBox Defender as a stand.

    Seriously Flawed

    Probably the only Apple product that I'm deeply disappointed with. I've purchased two and they've both started failing after ~4 months (not connecting or Accessory not Supported errors) I tried all the usual fixes.

    It's a pity because this product is great for typing and creates a terrific lightweight laptop.

    They expire within a year

    I have owned 2 smart keyboards. Both stopped being recognized by device within a year of purchase. None of the suggested troubleshoots corrected the issue permanently and was short lived until eventually they all stop working altogether.
    If you buy, beware that you will have to purchase a new one every year. In my opinion, not worth the hassle unless you just want an iPad stand.

    Keyboard design flaw re posting passwords from your Keychain

    The Apple keyboard designed for the 10.5 inch iPad Pro suppresses the iPad’s ability to enter passwords from the Apple Keychain.

    If you have the Apple keyboard installed, your iPad won’t post website passwords when you attempt to sign in to the website.

    If you pull off the keyboard, the iPad WILL post passwords from your keychain.

    I discussed this issue with a handful of Apple customer support folks, who identified it as a design flaw and flagged the issue to Apple Engineering.

    The Apple engineering team responded that the issue was NOT a design flaw, but an intentional design characteristic.

    Excuse me, Apple? If an iPad user wants to use an Apple keyboard, the user no longer can use the Apple Keychain?

    That two Apple products don’t work when used together is clearly a design flaw and needs to be corrected.

    Just a heads up that this issue exists, and that as of this writing, Apple is apparently not intending to fix it.

    Other than this, I’ve been using the Apple keyboard for a number of months and it works well.

    it does not last

    First one (for 9.7 ipad pro) lasted for 14 months. Since I’m in EU, I was able to convince Apple after many long phone calls that it should be replaced under warranty.
    The second one (for 10.5 ipad pro) lasted for 11 months. Now i’m trying to get a replacement.

    Very unreliable product from Apple, if you buy it, expect loads of phone calls, chats with customer care.

    Doesn’t last

    First started loosing connection. Had to remove and reinstall to regain connection. Then started having key issues. Some stuck, some not working. Seems it was built to last just longer than the warranty. Will replace it with third party Bluetooth.

    Great while it worked, but it didn't work very long

    I bought my iPad Pro two years ago and it is an excellent product but unfortunately the Smart Keyboard that I purchased at the same time isn't up to the same standard. While it was working it was convenient and easy to use but it stopped working suddenly and now it's just a very, very expensive case.

    New purchase

    I just purchased the smart keyboard today and so far I like it better then the logitec slim combo keyboard that I returned.
    I see alot of others complaining about it ans saying do not buy it.I am happy with the keyboard so far.I may not be as tech savoy as some people but I did ask questions before I bought the smart keyboard.
    I am going to give it 5 stars.

    I love it. When it works. It occasionally disconnects or just quits working at random times without any reason. I love having the keyboard but if this continues, I’ll return it.
