    Don’t buy it

    • Written by Josh L from Fordingbridge

I bought this apple keyboard not once but twice and each time it’s has given me problems. Not so much with the usability side of it but more so when you connect it to the iPad. My advice is to look else where for another brand of keyboard and not to waste your money on this one.

    Frequent disconnection requires rebooting

    • Written by Daniel H from Houston

This keyboard functions quite well both for typing, and as a discreet and foldable stand. As advertised, it is quite clear that the keyboard is not a complete cover, so reviews that complain about this just didn’t look closely at the product images.

However, a major flaw with the product is its frequent and random disconnection from the iPad – i.e. despite remaining physically attached, the keyboard suddenly loses the ability to communicate with the iPad. The only way to resolve the issue is to reboot the iPad. This becomes a frustrating ritual of interruption. Additionally, if this disconnection has occurred, the on-screen keyboard often will not appear when the Smart Keyboard is physically attached. This effectively prevents any text entry until the iPad is rebooted. It’s maddening, and is a clear bug that Apple should be repairing.

    Sorry not good enough

    • Written by Matthew M from Yeovil

I bought one of these for my iPad Pro about a year ago and it has already failed. When attached, it continually disconnects and reconnects and so renders the product useless as you have the screen keyboard popping up then disappearing constantly. This is the first apple ‘product I have ever been disappointed by.

tactile and compact but loss of lettering and connectivity

    • Written by Michael W from Webster

Have been using this keyboard for over a month, and so far, the keyboard isn't bad at all with a few flaws. It types a lot better than most laptop keyboards and most thin-profiled keyboards (including some Logitech keyboards). In spite of the shallow key presses, the typing experience on this keyboard is very similar to Magic Keyboard 2's, which feels really great on fingers. In other words, the key presses on the smart keyboard are very tactile. The excellent feeling of the outset grooves on F and J keys also makes typing experience on this keyboard great at perfectly dark places. Despite that the keys are slightly closer than regular keyboards', the smart keyboard has slightly concave keys that curve around one's fingertips, allowing one to know which which keys to press without touching other keys. Thus, having closer key spacing doesn't affect one's typing speed. The keyboard is also very compact that tugs into a Pad & Quill Oxford case nicely, making this another reason to own this keyboard albeit the price. Finally, being spill proof, this keyboard will still function even after some water has been dripped all over the keys.

Many reviews are complaining that the keyboard lacks of back lights. While back light makes keys stand out more, having back lit keys is completely useless for a touch typist, as the focus isn't on the keys but on the screen. Back lit keys additionally consumes unnecessary energy and is annoying. Instead of using back lit keys, Apple has decided to laser print the keys (this process is patented). As a result, some of the lettering is already rubbing off even after a few weeks of constant use. Basically, in a few years, the keyboard will become a letter-less keyboard--it may look elite in a way.

The -, =, [, ], and \ keys are indeed narrower than other keys on the keyboard. Thus, as a programmer, one may find that using these keys to be more difficult.

Others have mentioned about connectivity, so yes, when the keyboard lost connection, the keyboard needs to be reattached.

    Everything I expected

    • Written by David W from Orlando

I read the online reviews and was surprised the keyboard got such poor reviews. I have a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for my iPad 3 and thought it was wonderful. Unfortunately, the Logitech keyboard for the 10.5” iPad includes a back cover making the overall package quite thick. Since I have always carried my iPad in a sleeve, the lack of any protection for the back was of no concern. The Smart Keyboard looked like a good option. It sits flat on the desk unlike what was reported in another review. The entire setup is stable. I have used it on less than perfectly flat surfaces with no issues. I have not noticed any problems with the keyboard connecting. I find the key spacing good, and no problem to use. It’s not full size, but I didn’t expect it to be. In short, the keyboard is exactly what I expected. Only time will tell if it performs well long term.

    Barely Functional When It Works

    • Written by James B from San Francisco

Not much in the way of feature set. You can just type and cut and paste.....IF... you can get the keyboard to actually work. Every day I have to first detach the keyboard then boot the device (iPad 10.5 iOS 11) then re-attach the keyboard and then...possibly it will actually work. Most of the time I have to reset the device with the keyboard detached...then once it re-boots attach the keyboard and hope for the best. A _way_ overpriced kluge for such a great device.

    Poorly designed

    • Written by Dinesh M from Lindenhurst

You are better off buying another brand of iPad Pro keyboard. The iPad will not stay up, nor will it stay in place even with the smallest touch to it. I am not sure who designed this as a suitable iPad keyboard, but you can find much better without paying a "premium" for an apple branded keyboard

iPad pro 10.5 inch keeps losing the keyboard

    • Written by Derek B from Fort Myers

I'm on the second 10.5 iPad pro smart keyboard - the first was replaced by apple under warranty. It just stops working and the iPad has to be rebooted. Very annoying. Anyone know if apple has a fix for this?

Design-wise it's pretty good and the magnets hold the pencil to the case pretty well with the case closed.

For this price I expected it to work reliably so come on apple - get a fix done please

    Best for iPad Pro

    • Written by Mazmur A from Singapore

I read some negative reviews online, as well some positive ones, but decided to buy. So far no regrets.

Here is the pros of this product:

    Compact and easy to detach
It doesn't offer much protection to your iPad but it's so slim and light compared to other keyboard cases. You can just detach your keyboard for magazine reading at home and attach it back when you want to go to cafe writing something. Hassle-free.

The case can give your iPad 3 different angles and they are actually very steady on the surface whichever position you put it in

    Easy to clean
Unlike mechanical keyboards this one doesn't have the gaps between the keys that crumbs can stuck in forever. It's flat keyboard that's easy to clean and wipe using moist cloth

    Good typing experience
The buttons are actually very nice to press

The clear winner for me is definitely the portability of the keyboard. I read using my bare iPad because it's light and when I'm going out I just clicked my keyboard case for some light work. It just works.

Keyboard functions 50% of the time.

    • Written by Robert D from Plantation

I purchased the Apple 10.5 IPAD Pro and it's companion Smart Keyboard on August 30, 2017. Since then it has been failing to function about 50% of the time. It simply quits responding. I try disconnecting it and reconnecting it several times but that doesn't usually work.
A little while later, it begins working again. I have an appointment this afternoon with the Apple Geniuses for an attempted problem determination and fix.

    Apple keyboards, a failure

    • Written by Crystal V from Chimacum

Just purchased this with brand new iPad. It only works intermittently. When it stops working, I have to the remove case, power cycle, reattach the case and then it will work but only for a short while. Not worth the money, but it seems NONE of the Apple keyboards have great reviews. I will just be returning this product and purchasing something from Amazon.

It hasn't lived up to my expectations at all

    • Written by edward L from Northport

The keyboard does not connect well on one corner causing a complete halt to typing and/or a key endlessly repeating itself across the page. It requires removing the keyboard, doing a hard reboot, putting the iPad in place again, sometimes up to 3 times. One end of the magnet operates and snaps in well. The other does not. Needless to say, I am VERY dissatisfied with your product, especially since Apple is a trusted name in the field of technology. When I returned it to Best Buy thinking I could trade it in for a new one, I was informed I would have to deal with Apple directly, which is another hassle. I will be hesitant to buy any Apple product in the future. No extended warranty and the hefty price are also a minuses. Please take negative reviews into consideration before creating another Apple accessory.

iPad Pro 10.5 Keyboard Connectivity Problem

    • Written by Dominick D from Ooltewah

Like many of the comments about the keyboard connectivity problems I am having the same issues. There are times when it works perfectly fine and then the iPad will stop responding. This key board is not cheap however I took a chance and purchased the Logitech Slim Combo with the connectors. Having the same problem with the Logitech keyboard as I am having with the Apple keyboard so this tells me it is either a problem with the iPad hardware or software. If it is a software issue would you please fix because when the keyboard work it was one of the best!

    Returned and got an alternative...

    • Written by Jenny D from Park Ridge

Got this keyboard with my iPad and realized there is no extra protection for the iPad itself, just the screen when its closed. Not only that, but it is $159 and there is no protection plan for this item, just a limited warranty...

I returned it to best buy and bought a ZAGG which at least provides full protection for the iPad.

    1. The iPad is not secure in the case. It will fall out if you lift the case. Is only secure on two sides. Not all four sides.
    2. No loop for the Apple pen. You have to carry it separately. What's the point? Other cases have a place to secure the pen.

    Completely Useless

    • Written by John M from Yelm

This is my second Apple IPad Pro Keyboard. The first Apple replaced because it wasn’t working consistently, it kept throwing up errors, and it had issues connecting very often. This problem is so frustrating it renders my iPad Pro unusable for what I bought it for and, we are thinking of migrating everything to Microsoft because we are simply tired of the Apple challenges we have run into across the board lately.

A perfect companion for the IPad Pro

    • Written by MICHAEL T from Live Oak

I bought this keyboard because I like to type on a keyboard rather than use my fingers on a screen. I was not sure what to expect after reading the reviews but I took a chance. I could not be happier with this keyboard. It does not have to be turned on, it does not have to be charged, it is easy to type while the IPad is on my lap and I am on the recliner. It works well and if you bought the IPad Pro you know you need a keyboard anyway. Just do it because it works well and is easy. I had a previous Logitech keyboard with an older IPad. It worked but was heavy, needed to be charged, needed to paired with Bluetooth. This Smart Keyboard from Apple eliminates all of the hassle.

    Absolutely Unreliable!!!

    • Written by Vincent A from Grapevine

I am now on my second smart keyboard for the iPad Pro 10.5". It is constantly, unexpectedly and intermittently failing. The keyboard remains connected and just suddenly no longer types. I can remove the iPad Pro and reconnect it and...nothing. I have to fully power cycle the iPad Pro before it is able to see the keyboard again.

Given the pricepoint for this accessory and the specific claims of how this is a faster and more reliable connection than a bluetooth keyboard have totally been incorrect. Save your money and go with something that support bluetooth because either the connector or the software is to blame here.

    Functional but disappointing

    • Written by Kenneth M from Orem

When I purchased my IPad Pro 10.5 inch only this and the Logitech keyboards were available. I chose this because it did not add bulk, and was functional. After using it for several months now, I can offer a few points potential buyers may find useful.

Positives: It's APPLE so it fits and it works. The fit and finish are great and the "leather" looks and feels elegant. While it only covers half of the iPad as some have mentioned, I deliberately chose this over a clam shell because it was significantly thinner and lighter. The Logitech would have made my iPad Pro into something like a Macbook Air which I wanted to avoid. The keys work well and the response is nice and are fairly accurate.

Negatives: 1) No keyboard backlight. I never took typing so I have to use an overhead light on an airplane to see the keys. 2)There is no indication of whether the CAPS LOCK is activated. 3) In certain applications, the keyboard has stopped and I had to turn the iPad off and on to reset it. Enough times to be annoying. 4) Lastly, there is no place for the pen. I just know I am going to lose it at some point.

In Summary, this is light, looks good and works for the most part but has some glaring omissions. When something more functional comes along, I will most likely buy that.
