    Small But Serious Design Flaw

    When resting on a flat surface (e.g. a desktop or table) with the iPad seated properly, the Smart Keyboard does not lie flat. Instead, the weight of the 10.5" iPad tips the leading edge of the keyboard up about ¼", making it difficult to type on because the user must either hold the keyboard down on the desk or prop the iPad up from behind. Apple's legendary attention to detail seems to have failed them here. Do not buy this product unless you're prepared to hold down a keyboard that should not need holding down.

    New iPad Pro 10.5 Smart Keyboard

    So I was under the impression that the 10.5 version of the Smart Keyboard would have a redesigned key layout; this is not the case--the key layout is identical to that of the 9.7 version. The picture for this product is a blatant, if not strategic, misrepresentation of what you will receive. SMH...

    Subpar Product, doesn’t last

    I had the same problem as everyone else. First one lasted 3 months before it stopped connecting (accessory not found) but it was replaced under warranty. Second one lasted 5 months and the apple store refused to replace it again. Though they offered me a discount to buy a 3rd one for $135 lol. Definitely take your chances with a third party keyboard. This one works great for 3 months or so, but then youre stuck with a $160 half cover with a useless keyboard. Shame on apple for not doing a total recall with this subpar product.

    Very Disappointed!

    I’m a huge apple fan, and I have never been even close to as disappointed with one of their products as I am with the keyboard. I have had it just over a year, and it does not even work anymore! I am a stay-at-home mother that homeschools, so it’s not like it has been taken all over or abused - or even remotely over used! When chatting with tech support it is obvious that I am not the only one with this EXACT issue, but instead of just doing the right thing and sending me a replacement (I’ll GLADLY return this one!) - they say that I need to schedule an appountment and drive me and my 3 kids over an hour away to an apple store for support. And since it’s a year old, the support means “buy a new one.” My stars! even fitbit had better customer support! For the price of this keyboard, I should NOT have to replace it at barely a year old!

    I'm on the third keyboard. I had to come back several times to apple store technical assistance to replace 2 keyboards that stopped working. Now the third one has stopped working.

    Bad design

    It is frustrating that this Smart Keyboard does not offer any cover protection for the back of my new iPad Pro and there is not a case that you can attach to the the iPad at the same time as the Keyboard to remedy the situation. While I like the keyboard, I never find myself getting out my new iPad and instead always reaching for my old iPad in a case because I’m afraid of breaking the new iPad. If there was a case that was compatible with the Smart Keyboard that would be doable but there is not and now the folio Smart Keyboard isn’t even available for the 10.5 in Pro! Ugh come on Apple!!

    Sorry not good enough

    I bought one of these for my iPad Pro about a year ago and it has already failed. When attached, it continually disconnects and reconnects and so renders the product useless as you have the screen keyboard popping up then disappearing constantly. This is the first apple ‘product I have ever been disappointed by.

    Fix the problem Apple - I’m walking.

    These keyboards worked well until the IOS 11 updates, in fact i LOVED my keyboard and used it for work everyday! now i keep getting the dreaded Accessory not Supported notice... people everywhere are having trouble. Own up Apple, own the problem and get the compatibility issue sorted. Stop telling people that it isn’t a problem - you know that it is. I’m so frustrated I’m going to head to a PC - Surface Pro seem more reliable - so disappointing as I’ve been an advocate for Apple for years.

    Too Thick for a Case, Too Thin for a Keyboard

    I purchased the Smart Keyboard to go along with my new 10.5 inch iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. From the start, I’ve found it to be problematic as both a case and keyboard.

    As a case, it adds bulk and weight, without protecting the back of the iPad Pro. It’s difficult to configure for viewing and when you do get it arranged properly, the keyboard is sitting exposed on the back of the iPad, just waiting for a key to be pressed inadvertently as you try to move the iPad. When configured for typing, it feels less than sturdy, probably because my fingers keep hitting the screen as I attempt to use the number row. The configuration is cramped with no room at the top of the keyboard.

    As for typing, you might as well type on the on-screen keyboard, the glass gives you about as much key travel and feedback. I thought the 12 inch MacBook had an awful keyboard, but this one makes it look good. The only good thing that I can say about it as a keyboard is that I have not experienced any issues with it laying flat while in typing mode. Many other reviewers have had a problem with this.

    I’ve returned and replaced the Smart Keyboard with an $18 case that is thin and protects the entire iPad and a $20 Bluetooth keyboard that you can actually type on and that has more iOS specific keys than the Apple product. Even though it’s actually a bit narrower than the Smart Keyboard, it feels much more roomy and natural.

    Does not last

    Does not last! We bought this product about a year ago not sure if it was the hot weather on the holiday but on the hinge side where it attached to the iPad it lost all its shape and I will not stay on properly, pretty useless after one year, waste of money.

    Unreliable for business use

    I tried to keep the faith, but after trying to keep this keyboard working, I finally had to give up. The keyboard is totally unsuitable for business use. If you don't use your Ipad for more than watching movies, this keyboard will work for you, as a stand. As a keyboard, not so much. The smart connector interface is highly susceptible to dust and dirt, which makes traveling with the keyboard unreliable as well. I can see from the connectors that they barely make contact, and are woefully off center, which is probably the reason why the keyboard is so unreliable. In the past, Apple recognized this flawed design and extended the warranty for 3 years. However, that is no longer the case. I will have to purchase a more suitable keyboard from someone else, I like purchasing Apple products, because I have always liked the quality, but they really missed the mark on this keyboard. I expected more from Apple, especially for the price.

    Works great, until it doesn't

    I loved the simplicity and thin form factor of the keyboard. My only complaint out of the box is that it does not protect the back of the iPad, but that's the tradeoff for the thin form factor. I found the keyboard easy to type on, and did not have a single complaint until just after a year of ownership...then it intermittently started losing connection to the iPad. At first, this was solved by disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard...then after 18 months it stopped working entirely. The apple store confirmed that it's DOA, and offered to sell me a new one since it's out of warranty.

    I can deal with the premium Apple price tag, as it typically comes with a premium product...but that is not the case here. This is a disposable product. If you can live with purchasing a new unit annually, this is the keyboard for you.

    It's not for me - I expect more from Apple products.

    Extremely disappointed in Apple. How did they let this go to production?

    I have the 9.7 iPad Pro and just bought a 10.5 iPad Pro. The Smart Keyboard for the 9.7 IPad Pro was great, but this one for the 10.5 is really terrible design.

    First, when you flip the cover behind the iPad, and put it in reading mode, the magnets are not strong enough to hold it in place. So if you lift up the iPad using your left hand the keyboard will flop down, and the cover detaches to just hang in the air.

    Secondly when you covert to keyboard mode, the keyboard doesn't even lay flat! Seriously, did no one at Apple even attempt to use this product while testing? It is extremly uncomfortable to type when the keyboard is bending up slightly.

    So the two major uses for this Smart Keyboard, in both landscape mode and portrait is annoying, and feels like a cheap 3rd party accessory. Do not buy this. Unfortunately you don't have very many other options. The 9.7 inch Smart Cover had none of these problems.

    I might even stick with my 9.7 inch Smart Keyboard for my 10.5 inch iPad even though it doesn't fit perfectly, at least its way more usable this junk.

    Apple, seriously, just make take your 9.7 inch Smart Keyboard and make it slightly bigger, then everything will be ok.

    Keyboard does not lie flat

    I am very disappointed with the keyboard. The weight of the iPad pulls the keyboard up about a quarter inch from the table, so that it bounces when I type. This is not what I would expect from Apple. I'm returning it and looking for a different product.

    It will break within 150 Days

    I’ve had 3 of these, each treated with great care. Within 100-150 days it will simply stop working reliably. The iPad will stop registering it and say “Accessory Not Compatible”.

    Apple will neither fix it nor offer to replace it.

    Loved my keyboard until it packed up...

    Great product but extremely expensive as once the 1 year warranty is over, the keyboard only works intermittently, and sometimes wont work at all.
    I have tried all the suggested fixes and the keyboard has not been damaged and has been treated carefully.
    My keyboard is just under two year old and with careful use I would expect it to have a much longer life!

    Don't Buy!

    I got two Smart Keyboards. One for my iPad Pro 12" first generation and the other to my iPad Pro 10.5". Both failed.
    The 12" Smart Keyboard has been changed after a recall program from Apple. The 10.5" Keyboard starts fail this month, after 30 days from warranty expired.
    It's a expensive accessory for use for only 1 year.
    Don't recommend!

    The smart keyboard worked fine or the first year or so. Then it started causing "accessory not supported" messages. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would not. It would often disconnect mid-sentence. Sometimes it would reconnect and start working again mid-sentence after I switched to using the iPad software's on-screen keyboard. I read that Apple has extended the warranty on 12.9 inch and 9.7 inch smart keyboards to 3 years, but not on the 10.5 inch? The intermittent keyboard issue appears to be a fairly common problem. For a $160 device, Apple can and should do better for its customers. Maybe my friend who told me I should have purchased a Surface instead of the iPad Pro with smart keyboard was right all along. Very, very disappointed and frustrated with Apple.
