    Great WHEN it works!

    • Written by Jacqueline F from Eau Claire

I loved this for the first several months. Then it would quit working and I would wipe off the contacts and restart the iPad and all would be well for a short time. Now it has totally quit responding. I have had it about 1 1/2 years.

Decent case but cover is starting to wrinkle

    • Written by Jeff H from Toronto

The functionality of the case is okay, but the pencil sticks on the side and is not covered. it’s pretty easy to have the pencil get knocked off and makes it awkward to hold. Also, the cover is starting to wrinkle just simply from holding it which is a bit annoying. Overall, it’s really the only case we can choose from that isn’t third party.

    Cardinal Design Flaw

    • Written by Chris H from Charlotte

If a keyboard case’s design has the keyboard resting on my iPad’s beautiful screen (which will lead to screen scratching through normal use) then the design is a complete failure. This case fails the test. Apple needs to redesign.

    Needs a backlight

    • Written by JEFFREY M from San Francisco

Why on earth Apple created this keyboard and did not make it backlit I will never know. It’s a great keyboard as long as you don’t ever need to use it on airplanes at night or in any dark setting. In other words, you will not be able to use this keyboard 50% of the time. It needs a backlight.

    as bad as it gets!

    • Written by Doman G from Düsseldorf

no real protection, no pencil cover up which makes holding the iPad while Pencil is attached awkward, not backlit, no real tactile. and extremely expensive!
you can't really design a worse keyboard even if you absolutely go for it!!! 1 star since 0 is not an option!

Returned it after a couple of days!!

    • Written by David L from Palm City

This cover is not handholding friendly. The iPad Air 2 cover I previously owned was soft, well rounded and comfortable to hold. This one was hard & sharp edged, offered little protection and fell out of the cover a couple of times in only a few day. The trade off for a physical keyboard was not worth the terrible annoyance every time I used it to simply hold and read! I bought the otter box and will wait for the Logitech keyboard cover to be released (soon I hope!). Apple really missed the mark on this one!

Falls off constantly when opening and trying to position.

    • Written by Stephen B from Thorndale

Magnetic design is terrible. When trying to open and position the viewing angle the keyboard releases from the ipad making it a jugling act to hold both. I don’t think this product was consumer tested. Eventually you’ll be holding either the iPad or the keyboard as the other drops to the floor. If you are lucky it will be the keyboard. Or unlucky the iPad will drop to the floor and smash the screen.

    Battery Backup

    • Written by Michael P from Folsom

Just received my back-ordered keyboard (delayed shipment during purchase)... Types well, but certainly adds some weight.

One curiosity: Given the thickness/weight, behind the keypad where the iPad Pro III magnetically rests, seems like a good place for backup batteries (think Mophie), instead of thick support plastic. I presume there are battery dangers preempting the idea, but it was one of my first thoughts when I opened it... Wow, this is thick, does this thing actually have batteries to extend the battery life of the iPad when connected? Certainly didn’t see it in the description when I purchased it, but given the thickness behind the keypad, thought I may have accidentally missed that added feature.

    ...Just sayin’

But, still a very good keyboard and iPad Pro III protector

    Very inconvenient - very unhappy

    • Written by Moraima R from Canton

I bought the 11" keyboard case for the new iPad Pro 2018 because there were no other aftermarket keyboard cases as there had been with previous iPad versions. I had to protect the iPad, but it appears that Apple didn't release specifications early enough which gave the customers no alternatives for our protection of this serious investment and therefore we had to buy the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio. I don't mind paying for good quality which is why I'm married to Apple products, but the 12.9" at $199, the 11" at $179, and the $159 for the 10.5" are hefty prices considering the quality. You have to practically wrestle the iPad away from its bottom to close it or to change position. The case itself doesn't really protect the iPad leaving 3 edges exposed. The keyboard is noisy and has no backlighting which makes it impossible to work under dim lights. The bottom end of the keyboard is too close to the edge and you have to type with bent wrists or you will be hitting the lowermost keys which messes up your work. Is this the beginning of a downward spiral for Apple? Be aware that lack of quality control in design on other products may be the end of Apple's competitive advantage in the marketplace.

    Space bar is Stiff

    • Written by Trevin W from Chicago

Overall I’m shocked that Apple is fine with releasing a product with this unsatisfactory level of quality. The space bar is so stiff that 60% of the time I fail to push the space bar when I type. Can I get used to it? No. It doesn’t make any sense because the amount of force that I have to exert on to this key just makes me feel like I’m going to break it. I think mine is defective. But I can’t convince anyone that this is an issue because they’d tell me to get used to it.

Evaluating the Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad Pro 11 inch

    • Written by Dave C from Davao City

My basis for evaluation is not how it compares to other similar products, but how it meets my personal expectations (my own wants and needs). I think this is the best way to evaluate this product for its own worth.

What I personally look for in a smart keyboard case:

[x] Lightweight and thin (not heavy and bulky)
[x] Sturdy and stable when typing on my lap (which I do most of the time)
[x] Protects the iPad Pro screen and back well from scratches, bumps and small falling objects
[ ] All around device protection from damage due to accidental drops or bumps
[x] Easily detachable (if I want to swap it with another case for a different purpose)
[x] Non-bluetooth dependent (avoids the hassle of powering up, syncing and worrying about sufficient battery charge)
[x] Keyboard instantly available for immediate typing anytime, anywhere
[x] Resistant to liquid spills on the keyboard
[ ] Apple pencil dedicated and safe storage place (without having to be on the charging slot all the time and exposed to accidental removal and drops)
[x] Keyboard keys spacing not too narrow but well spaced for easier and faster typing
[x] Keys have a good “feel” and tactile response
[x] Has comfortable viewing or typing angle
[x] Can be positioned well for drawing mode with the Apple pencil with the keyboard attached (achieved by positioning the device in typing mode on the keyboard then turning the whole unit upside down)
[x] Can be used and held well for video recording or AR viewing mode without the keyboard part obstructing the camera, and without having to detach the Ipad from the keyboard unit (particularly in landscape mode) (achieved by removing the device from typing mode and sliding it down on top of the keyboard over the third row of keys, then holding the whole unit up with both hands)
[x] Screen cover holds or sticks securely even if the unit is held at different angles
[x] All buttons and ports easily accessible and unobstructed
    [x] Made of durable material
    [ ] Price is reasonable

15 out of 18 expectations met makes this product worth buying for me!
I wonder if there is any comparable product that has all the ticked specifications in this list and also has all the unticked ones. I would be interested to know.

    Great Keyboard.... One major oversight!

    • Written by Jason F from STANARDSVILLE

Again, Apple knows how to design things. Very strong magnets and I have had the iPad only drop out of the case once due to my own fault. I love the way the keys feel and I love the tactile response they give back. Being a mechanical keyboard lover for games and work, I feel like this keyboard comes close.

Now, Apple, have you tried to type on this in a darkish room? It’s hard because there is no backlight. My eyes struggle and I then just switch to the on screen keyboard. For what I paid for this, It should have backlit keys and be able to do something else. I don’t know what else it should do but something else at this price point. Due to the fact that it is the only keyboard that uses the smart connectors on the back on the iPad (that I have found), I will not be switching. Apple, your foresight for products is starting to deminish.

This review was typed on this keyboard. Would be 5 stars if it had a backlight.

Great keyboard, but doesn't work properly on airplanes

The keyboard is great, except for when you are in the air. Compact, types well, and looks good! If it only worked all the time as it should.

    Uncomfortable to use

    • Written by Suzanne V from Carlton

Disappointed that Apple have made this a simple fold back design, so that when you want to fold back the keyboard and use the iPad as a table, your fingers are clunkily all over the keys. Very clumsy, lazy design. The previous keyboard was much nicer. The product is also so stiff that I keep knocking it off the back of the iPad Pro when setting up to use it. Really disappointing. I wish there was a more elegant alternative that was a delight to use like other Apple stuff.

Works nicely as keyboard when actually in use though. Just clumsy the rest of the time.

I'm typing this review with my keyboard sitting on my lap in the dark. No issues with no backlighting (does your desktop have backlit keys?), don’t have a Mac but the touchbar feature is supremely intuitive, and I have no problem with the smaller keys even though I’m a relatively fast typist. So far works perfectly and has a substantial feel to it—I doubt I’d be satisfied with a different vendor’s offerings. Don’t see myself buying a Bluetooth keyboard either. I have a leather portfolio from Saddleback Leather that has a pocket that comfortably holds it, and provides excellent protection for both the iPad and the folio. Check them out if you wish—you won't be disappointed.

    Not worth it

    • Written by Maggie R from Arlington

Not worth the money because it does not protect the ipad - a huge monetary investment - whatsoever. The back magnetic cover is not strong enough and in an attempt to simply pick up the ipad, the case came off and the ipad fell face down on the floor. Luckily only small cosmetic damage was inflicted to the corners of the ipad. I will be buying a different case immediately.

    LOVE this case!

    • Written by Anthony R from London

LOVE IT! Never bought a Smart Keyboard for iPad before and very glad I bought this one. So stable to use and much more fluid to type on than the on-screen keyboard. PLUS - So easy to swap for the the Smart Folio case (Apple's other 11" iPad Pro case without the keyboard) when I want to just read or watch films.

5 Star Product at a 4 Star Price

    • Written by Robert M from Brunswick

I love this Smart Keyboard Folio (11-inch). It provides adequate protection for me since I also use a backpack and laptop sleeve to transport both my MacBook and iPad Pro 11-inch. After using this keyboard, I am able to type on it quickly and easily with just a short period of time needed to adapt to it. I'm a touch typist and really have no complaints with the typing experience. While the outer case (front and back) are a little plain looking, the folio serves its purpose well. As my review title suggests, Apple could bring the price of this accessory down some. It does seem to be somewhat overpriced for what it is. I can't speak of long-term quality yet, as I've only owned the keyboard folio for a week, but it does seem to be sturdy and wearing well so far. Very pleased with my purchase with only some minor irritation regarding the price.

I purchased this keypad with my iPad Pro about 18 months ago. About 5 months ago I starting having problems with it and now it is almost useless. After going into the store to have it looked it it was decided to replace my iPad as the connector seemed worn. After one more day the keypad is still not working properly. Now I need to purchase a whole new keypad- it is expensive given the short time it works. Not happy
