An stylish disign most fitting this 3rd Gen iPad Pro

    • Written by Cedric J from Phoenix

This new keyboard is a refreshing fix for some of the flaws of the prior Apple iPad Pro keyboard. I owned both the first and second generations of the iPad Pro 12.9 and although I appreciated the design, and sleekness of the prior keyboard, I encountered connectivity issues which lead to one keyboard replacement on my 1Gen unit, and two replacement on my 2nd Gen unit, i.e., two keyboards and two iPad Pro's as they worked to identify the cause.

This new 3rd Gen iPad Pro, and 2nd Gen keyboard are both sleek, well made, and have presented no connectivity issues. I have always enjoyed typing on the keyboard, and like that it allows the iPad to remain thin and sleek. The protection of the full iPad unit is appreciated, and with such a thin presentation, It is in my backpack always, no laptop needed.

Had the keyboard and Ipad for almost 1 year and have been using it daily throughout my third year of University and into my semester of summer school. Absolutely convenient and worth the purchase.

    Top-tier, as always

    • Written by Jim W from Dulwich

After reading the reviews and comparing the Apple Smart Folio to the Logitech Slim Folio, I was very apprehensive about buying the Apple keyboard. I do a lot of typing. A *lot* of typing. So the reviews of the Apple keyboard very nearly led me to buy the Logitech folio sight-unseen.

Versatility, portability and lightness were my criteria, and when I discovered that the Logitech keyboard would more than double the weight and the thickness of my beautiful iPad, as well as needing to be charged and not using the Smart Connector on the iPad, I made the decision to give the Apple keyboard a try.

To my delight, 30,000 words later, it’s magnificent. “It just works” would sum it up in a catchphrase, and to that end it’s just like every other Apple product I’ve bought. It’s intuitive, the keys are much more tactile and responsive than the reviews suggest, the materials are great, it’s easy to remove from the iPad, it’s incredibly light and keeps the iPad’s low profile and portability intact.

The only (minor) gripes I have are the lack of backlighting, and the absence of iOS shortcut keys as found on the Logitech folio. The price is steep, yes, but you get what you pay for. Well worth the investment.

    Exactly What I Wanted

    • Written by Markus Z from Orlando

This keyboard is perfect. If you have a 12.9” iPad Pro you probably want it for it’s size, weight, and sleekness. This keyboard feels like it isn’t even there. A lot of reviews, to me, seemed like they were reviewing a product they WANTED and not the one they BOUGHT.

The two viewing angles are great. I usually use the more accented angle for normal use but the more vertical is great for watching movies or TV.

No backlight? GROW THE F UP. The screen itself provides enough light that if you HAVE to look at your keyboard you can see the keys. But in today’s society who actually looks at their keyboard? Stop whining about there not being a useless feature that looks neat.

The simple fact that this thing doesn’t need to be charged, and feels almost like nothing is there while you’re carrying it, is so worth it. This iPad replaced my iPad Air 2 and MacBook Pro and this case is wonderful for what I need. It’s simple, minimal, and does it’s job well.

Sure, you can wait for a third party to release something with fancy lights and more protection for half the cost, but then you may as well buy a MacBook.

    I’m happy with this purchase

    • Written by Rachel B from Glen Allen

I have had my new keyboard for several days now and read all the reviews like a good apple customer, and when I first purchased my 12.9 iPad Pro 3rd gen in the apple store a week ago I declined it based on the price alone. After looking elsewhere I was unable to find anything close to matching my needs of a case and a keyboard in one. I found myself back in the store and pulled the trigger on this and I’m glad I did, other then the price of $199 before tax I am happy. To those whining about the lighted keyboard my advice is learn to type I have no need for this unnecessary battery drain.
As for the quality it meets my standards and works flawlessly.

Best iPad Pro Keyboard, Why the bad hype??

    • Written by Mike G from Las Vegas

So I was so hesitant on buying this keyboard because it had 3 stars on the Apple Website. Let me tell you the decision to buy it was a great decision. Yes the keyboard is a little on the expensive side at $200 for the iPad Pro 12.9”, however, that really is the only negative I can think of, and I’m used to Apple products being on the higher end of the pricing spectrum.

This keyboard has been phenomenal, I got used to typing on it almost immediately, and I can type as fast on this keyboard as I can on my Mac Book Pro. I love how the almost cloth texture of the keyboard feels. I love how sturdy it is, it magnetically locks the iPad into place in the 2 orientations. It’s easy to use when you’re lounging around on a couch or in bed. Portable enough to travel with me everywhere.

It greatly improves multitasking on the iPad Pro because when you’re using multiple apps you don’t have the clunky virtual keyboard taking up 1/2 the screen.

This device in combination to the iPad Pro made me ditch my personal computer. For my personal task I just use my iPad Pro now. I still have a work Mac Book Pro, but there is really no way for me to get around that.

I highly recommend this product to iPad Pro users who’re looking for a more laptop feel.

    Everyone else is way over-reacting

    • Written by Amy Claire T from Alphington

I don't usually review products, but after seeing all the 1 and 2 star reviews for this keyboard I was very worried, so I've decided to counterbalance the massive negative sentiment.

Yes, this keyboard is expensive - but it is an Apple product and they are all expensive.
No, this keyboard will not provide protection if you drop your iPad - but really, if you are looking for drop protection, you should not be looking for a keyboard case!! Would you drop your laptop and then blame its keyboard for not adequately protecting it? You would not.
Yes, this keyboard is held on with magnets - but it functions perfectly fine.
And finally, yes, this keyboard does look and feel different than the average Apple keyboard - but everyone who has used more than one device at once over the last few years will be familiar with the sensation of having to relearn to location of keys on a keyboard.

This product is great. It means I can use my iPad as a latpop, which is what I wanted to do. I have no idea why everyone is so hugely against it, butI think they're massively overreacting.

    Great addition to the iPad.

    • Written by FERNANDO C from Tomball

The keyboard is quite responsive. I am able to type around 40 words per minute easy. For those who are saying that this keyboard is laggy, that must be because the folio is put on wrong and or user error because I’ve yet to experience any issues.
Yes, it does not protect the iPad’s edges, but is a 6 year old handling this iPad or a mature adult that does KNOWS how to take care of it’s expensive electronics?? I do know that accidents occur, but if its only going from the book bag to the desk, i doubt very much that you’re going to drop it.
No, it does not light up, but if you know how to type appropriately and know where the keys are at on a QWERTY keyboard, i doubt very much that you will need a light up keyboard. While it could help, i can see why apple didn’t integrate it because it would drain the battery slightly faster and then people would complain how the keyboard is draining the iPad battery.
It does come off a bit easier compared to the other non keyboard folio because when you open it, it’s back portion is not fully attached. So i can see how this could cause it to detach easier, but its not a deal breaker.
Now, the price is a bit high. I think with the plastic quality of they keyboard and the rubber portion of the exterior does not warrant a $180 price, maybe 140 but no matter how much complaining we all do about its stupid price...there isn’t any way around it and i doubt very much that apple will change its price because we are all complaining about it.
In conclusion, if you do a decent amount of typing in notes, notability, text messaging and or emails; this is a great addition. If the price is too high for you, go look else where because im almost certain that you will come back to this keyboard sooooooner or later.

    Really great, light functional keyboard

    • Written by Jeffery B from Provo

The Smart Keyboard is a great product. It is extremely light and very functional. No, it isnt backlit and doesn’t have an extra row of keys for extra functionality but I think the goal here was to provide a very lightweight keyboard that effortlessly pairs and charges with the iPad Pro. There are shortcuts for accessing the home screen (granted it would be nice if there were some shortcuts to increase/decrease volume or brightness). I think it is a big improvement over the first generation Smart Keyboard (connection is much more tight and there is protection for the back of the iPad).

Prior to purchasing this keyboard I was using a generic case that I got from Amazon and a Magic keyboard that I connected via Bluetooth. I must say that I love the magic keyboard (which does have the extra functionality keys). It was, however, a heavier and clunkier option.

I’m sure that in the not so distant future, Logitech will come out with a nice backlit keyboard with the extra keys. It will also be heavier. One simply needs to choose what is more important to them. Not possible to make a keyboard lighter than the Smart Keyboard with these extra features. I am very happy with my Smart Keyboard!

Perfect Blend of Form and Function

    • Written by Andrew R from Fort Mill

Before purchasing I read all the bad comments about how the keyboard is not backlit, the materials feel cheap, it’s overpriced, etc. So I was scared that this thing would be awful. I don’t really write reviews but felt the need to defend this product. For me, the keyboard case is perfect. It’s lightweight, comfortable to type on, extremely convenient/flexible thanks to the powerful magnets, and I actually like the material. This is not a protective case. For me that’s a good thing because it preserves the aesthetic and overall experience of an amazing Apple product (buy AppleCare+ if you’re worried about dropping your iPad). I’ve worked several full days using this keyboard and feel like it’s the perfect blend of form and function. It is pricey, but I think if you prefer overall experience above all else like I do, then you won’t be disappointed with this purchase.

    I love it!

    • Written by Veronica S from Arlington

I don’t usually write reviews but I thought it may be worth it after reading all the negative reviews here.
I agree that it is too expensive and I hesitated to buy it but I am glad I did. I did because they weren’t many options out there.

    1. I love that it is magnetic
    2. I think it looks elegant. It is very thin and material looks strong to me
    3. I love that I don’t need to charge it like other keyboards
    4. I love that I can fold it all the way back and use just the screen
    5. The connection is the best. Fast and super reliable

It would be perfect if it had a space to storage the pen somehow.

I love it but again, it is expensive. All Apple products are expensive though!

    Very surprised.

    • Written by Danielle F from Chula Vista

Very slim and very sturdy. I love that it doesn’t need any charging or Bluetooth connecting. The fact that it doesn’t have a backlit keyboard doesnt bother me much since i dont need to look while i type most of the time. The magnets that hold the iPad upright are very strong and dependable. Ive had other iPad cases where my iPad would just tip over with the slightest touch. Very comfortable to type on. I personally love the design.

I have been waiting for this to arrive since I bought my new iPad and I am over the moon. It is a solid well made keyboard/case. The iPad feels secure and the case feels very well made. The connection is seamless and the keyboard (which I am using to write this) is very good quality. I have no issue what so ever and the price is what you pay for a premium product. I would highly recommend this

    My favorite keyboard

    • Written by Owen M from Arvada

This has been my favorite keyboard since the iPad Pro launched in 2015. The fabric keyboard Apple puts out is the most comfortable keyboard I've ever typed on. I've typed over 200 pages worth of text for my masters program all on these fabric keyboards.

The new Smart Keyboard Folio doesn't disappoint. I'm glad that it stays on very well with magnets to the new iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd gen.). It does run a little thicker, but with that comes the added sturdiness when its on my lap typing in a chair at Starbucks. The Pencil, this keyboard, and the iPad Pro is the "computer" I travel with day in and day out. I only every go back to my Mac to work in Photoshop, although that too will come soon to iPad! So great!

Ultimately, personal keyboard preference may lead you elsewhere, but this keyboard is truly one of my personal favorites.
