  • Apple now has an app specifically built for you, the teacher. It is simply called Classroom. There are some requirements that need to be met in order to make use of the free Classroom iPad App. For a small 20+1 iPad environment, Apple's Profile Manager (also free) would do the job. Profile Manager is part of the Server App (installed from Mac App Store for $20) Profile Manager configures the iPads, over the air if you wish, pushes apps, locates lost devices, etc. You sync Profile Manager with Apple School Manager. Apple School Manager syncs with your Student Information System and includes a list of all of your iPads. Apple School Manger points all the iPads to your Profile Manager server. Apple School Manager sends Profile Manager your student roster, and then Profile Manager pushes the Apple School Manager info to the iPads in what is called an Education Configuration Payload (2 different types- leader, follower/teacher,student). The teacher can either download the Classroom App from the App Store or the Profile Manager Administrator can push it down to the teachers iPad only. When the teacher opens the Classroom app, he/she can see the all the students, the iPads their on, view live thumbnail preview of the iPad screens, launch any app, website, or book, lock all the iPads, and from what I've seen in our school system the most loved feature is by far the ability for the teacher to lock the students into any app they choose, preventing the students from wandering off to Youtube Land. All this yours for only $19.99 :-)
