Could this be used to charge the new MacBook from a portable powerbank (with a USB-A port)?

Answer
Yes. However, the MacBook charges at up to 29W; while this cable supports up to 36W, most USB-A powe Yes. However, the MacBook charges at up to 29W; while this cable supports up to 36W, most USB-A power supplies will only be 5W or 10W. Check the power capacity of your USB-A charger. While this will still work on, say, a 10W charger, your MacBook would then only charge at 1/3 of the possible speed, which might not even be enough to keep it running while you use it.
