I have never had an apple product with this terrible of quality. For $50 should definitely last longer especially not used much and always put up when not in use. Would not recommend wasting your money.

Poor Video Quality and No Audio Out of Headphone Jack

The result is the vid Instead of outputting native HDMI, this little device seems to take the output from the phone, compress it, and pass along an HDMI signal. The result is the video quality is far below good HD quality. Expect all kinds of artifacts and other issues including lower than expected HD resolution. This is not a device that can replace a good streaming alternative, which is too bad considering Apple's devices are more than powerful enough for that purpose. For those of us hoping to use our phones or iPads to connect in business settings to display content, be aware that audio is only transmitted through the lightening port when this is plugged in, which gives no audio out through the headphone jack. That means that if you are plugging this into a projector's HDMI input, you are likely going to lose any sound that goes along with your presentation (or anything else) as most quality projectors do not have speakers. This is a big oversight in my opinion as lots of devices keep the analog audio out of a headphone jack or the like live while also transmitting sound over HDMI. Similarly, sound is not also sent via bluetooth when this is plugged in, so that's not an alternative either. I have both the bluetooth and headphone jack options open on my laptop, which has an HDMI out. So much for replacing a good old laptop.

      Horrible product

I bought this for when I travel I can have my movies with me. This is no longer plausible now since the movies are in 4K. This adapter only supports 1080p I guess. So if you wanna watch a movie you have to stream it. You can not have a movie previously downloaded on your iPhone or iPad and play it with out using data/WiFi. And even if you are at a place where WiFi is available I still have had MANY issues with tryna stream movies. All in all I would not recommend this product, disappointed with apple for still selling a product that is obsolete and does not work with THEIR own movies. Seems like I’m not the only one having this problem.

We were able to watch a movie through an app in my phone. Second time worked as well. The third time I wanted to use it, it did not work. I thought the issue would surely be the hdmi cord so I went to buy a new pricey one. Got home checked it out and didn’t work! Tried it with three different TVs and nothing! Last week I upgraded to an iPhone XR (I previously had an iPhone 6) and thought it would finally work and nothing! Complete waste of money! Apple makes very good products but unfortunately, this is not one of them! Just disappointed. Wish I knew this wouldn’t work after a few uses and would’ve saved myself the $50 for something else my kids would’ve found more useful. 😔
