    Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-design

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-setup

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-share

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Excellent range, superb speeds, quick and easy set up, looks great. Supports local loopback feature which I really needed, the old standard package router I used to use has nothing on this new AirPort Extreme. Looking forward to using 802.11ac devices with it. Highly recommended, overall a great buy.

I thought I was having internet connection issues with my cable provider but turns out it is the airPort Extreme. Too bad, I like apple compatibility and simplicity but the reliability for this product is not there. I do not recommend this.

Delighted so far, setup was straightforward, done in less than 10 minutes from opening the box. Gigabit ethernet is delivering the full bandwidth from my cable modem for the first time and the wireless coverage is uniformly excellent in my thick walled and three storey Victorian terrace, noticeably quicker for my n capable devices. I don't have any ac devices yet to test those even higher speeds. Wireless sharing of a Kodak printer also working as hoped. Happy to recommend - nice job Apple.

Overheating problems 1 month after warranty ran out

Reliability issues just outside of warranty (purchased June 2016, error messages starting in July 2017). Airport Extreme overheats (noisy fan), causing the Airport Utility to pop up and interfere with whatever I'm working on, just to show me an error message I cannot possibly address. Very disappointed with product quality. Engineering seems to have spent more time analyzing MTBF data to establish warranty coverage rather than to delight customers. Adding insult to injury, I'm also not happy with my failing Airport Utility disrupting my workflow to remind me of the poor design and support for my $200 Apple product.

#1 Router to a router addict.

I own the Airport Extreme 2TB which I bought about 9 months ago. Since then I have bought the Netgear Nighthawk, Asus (I call it The Spider), most recently Linksys AC2200, oh and a Linksys WRT1900. I'm not counting the cheaper routers I have also bought. I have been looking for a "faster", more "reliable" router when in fact the Airport Extreme has never given me a single problem. That's the problem! Why is it so gosh darn good? I remember paying over $300 for the 2TB version thinking I would be taking it back. And to be honest it has been the best investment I have made as far as routers go. If you want quality buy this router, if you want junk buy one of the others (they are all the same; i own them all).

I have gradually morphed my home into a retrofitted smart home with dozens of wifi devices such as thermostats, light switches and multiple Echos to control them via voice. I also have a complex media set up with a dozen A/V components. There are four adults, each with multiple wifi devices; iPhones, iPads, laptops, etc. in our home and on line often at the same time. These modems have performed flawlessly for three years running. The Airport Utility makes setup a breeze (I have over 50 reserved IP via MAC address). The routers never drop signal, always connect at blazing speed (ac at 300-500 mbps), provide excellent range and are far more reliable than my old Linksys and NetGear routers as are just so much easier to manage. Sure, other products have more features, but as a wifi router, these have been high performance stalwarts for me.
