      Expensive Piece of Junk

This is the access If you'd like to spend 80 bucks on an accessory that will cause your external monitor to blink on and off all day long... look no further!!! This is the accessory you've been dreaming of. I've tried different monitors. I've tried different HDMI cables. Nothing seems to help. This thing is incredibly frustrating to use. If you do decide to call support, expect to be on the phone for an hour only to be told "try plugging it into another port" on your single port usb-c macbook...

      WARNING - Bad Hardware

This adaptor has severe compatibility issues with external hard drives that can result in LOSS OF DATA. Apple even lists a few drives (including their own Super This adaptor has severe compatibility issues with external hard drives that can result in LOSS OF DATA. Apple even lists a few drives (including their own SuperDrive, pre 2011) than don't work with this adaptor, but there are more that don't work - both for storage OR Time Machine (!). This is really bizarre since the other USB-C to USB-A adaptor WILL work, but since this adaptor doesn't supply power to your MacBook, it's not a long term solution. In the instances where the Multiport adaptor DOES work with an external hard drive, it can experience drastically reduced speeds and randomly unmount the drive. The straight USB adaptor, with the same drive, does not show these issues. I can't believe Apple put this on the market without 1) more rigorous testing and 2) with this serious an issue. Having an external hard drive work with your laptop is a pretty important requirement. Terrible, terrible piece of equipment. I was an Apple employee and have worked with Macs for decades. This issue was diagnosed with a genius at an Apple Store after we went through several Multiport and regular USB adaptors, and then followed up with additional testing at home. Apple should be ashamed.

Dell makes a better one half price

Clunky and poorly made, this dongle makes me wonder how this dongle benefits its users compared to using an older/slower mac. Even if included, with every mac, Clunky and poorly made, this dongle makes me wonder how this dongle benefits its users compared to using an older/slower mac. Even if included, with every mac, i'd be disappointed. The dongle doesn't fast charge iphone and only gives one USB A port meaning most users will need other dongles just to make their devices work. Extremely disappointed and will get the better made Dell Docking station for half the price

Unfortunately, while it's perfectly usable if you want HDMI out or USB in or out (subject to the caveats in other reviews) it only passes 55 of the 87W my mains charger is able to deliver, so my laptop battery runs down while plugged in through this adapter while it's under load. If you're thinking of buying this to avoid plugging more than one thing in when you get back to your desk, don't If you're buying it to have an HDMI out while on battery power, it's fine.

Massive loss in functionality within less than two years

I decided to get a macbook pro a little over a year ago (my first ever apple product) and bought one of these adapters for convenience. It seemed it a bit over I decided to get a macbook pro a little over a year ago (my first ever apple product) and bought one of these adapters for convenience. It seemed it a bit over priced, but I figured since it was the Apple brand adapter it would be a quality and last a while. Within less than two years, the hdmi and standard usb ports have both stopped working. Based on other reviews, it doesn't seem like this is problem is unique to me either. I bought a cheap off-band replacement, since I basically have no faith in apple at this point between this failure and issues with the laptop itself (had a keyboard effect pop up within this time frame as well). Can only say based on my experiences over the last year, I will likely never buy another apple product again. I planning to get a new laptop in about a year so I can at least say I squeezed out some value out of what I have now. Counting the days at this point...
